  1. My non-celiac husband has TMJ and clinches his teeth. We didn't want to pay $400 for a mouth guard. (He was waking up with headaches) We bought one at Wal-Greens for $20. It has worked WONDERS for him. They have different price ranges. I think the most expensive is $20-$25. That's the one we got and it really helps! I don't think it is celiac related...
  2. Whew! I did find some things that I thought were a little out there. I mean, I don't take shampoo to the hairdresser. They lean you back...how in the world would you get it in your MOUTH? She said she was sick from inhaling hairspray. She won't let pedicure people rub lotion on her LEGS! Unless I was grossly informed by the nutritionist (who also has...
  3. My mom gets ocular migraines. She can see your eyes but not your nose...half your body disappears. We rushed her to the ER at her first one, too. (Eye doc says that women around menopause get these)
  4. We had a doctor call and tell us that BOTH children had celiacs. Wow...not expecting the other one. At the follow-up where they sit you down and explain, he looked and said "Oh, that one doesn't now but we will recheck her". UGGG! He had his nurse call and tell us that both had it. Did you change your mind? Did her results suddenly change? I switched...
  5. I have wondered about you! You are the one with the swollen lymph nodes and the nightsweats right? If so..did you go get that checked out? I have been thinking of you and hoping you checked back in.
  6. Just checked out Elizabeth Hasselbecks book today and she said I have to watch Modified Food Starch on labels. WHAT? I thought if it was in America they had to label if wheat was in it. Do I have to call everytime I see that? I have been assuming it was corn starch. She said that food starch is mostly corn but when they add the word MODIFIED, you have...
  7. I am just thankful that my "silent celiac" 11 year old had a doctor that recognized it goes with thyroid conditions. I am still amazed we found it before symtoms and with only "simplification of the villi". (Although, a very slight small symtom would be helpful so I could know if these restaurants are safe!)
  8. how sweet! What did you find out? Is Alieve ok? I hope so.
  9. Confession: I cried in the store parking lot after my first 2 hour trip to the grocery store. I called my mom bawling that we would never eat anything again! We have to avoid a lot of other stuff too. I found after 6 months of this, that I just have to literally write down every single meal and plan it out and stick it on the fridge or we'd be running...
  10. You have to have the genes and a "trigger". They have not figured out that "trigger" yet. My husband grew up in daycare with no antibacterial lotion and still developed it. But then again, he was always outside, too so you'd think his Vitamin D would have been ok. He got his within 3 months of his college vaccines. Makes you wonder.....hum. I think...
  11. As many of you know, type 1 is associated with celiac, too. DQ2 and DQ8 are involved. (Mainly DQ2 in celiac and mainly DQ8 in type 1 diabetes but they are both found) I was asked to enroll my child in a clinical study to try to prevent it. She has DQ2 and DQ8 and my husband has had type 1 since 18. She also has celiac and hashis so the auto-immune diseases...
  12. Sorry- I am just now seeing your question... Yes, my child with mild blunting did show a postive blood test. Technically, it was half and half but enough to warrart the biopsy. She did have a negative blood test 4 years ago at her Thyroid diagnosis (age 7). From what I hear, she probably had celiac first and then developed the thyroid. So who knows if...
  13. I think it was Peter who has asked this question before but has anyone had Entrolab tests run that did not show gluten sensitivity? It seems they all come back that way. Heck, maybe we all are but I was just wondering. I have bc/bs and they were wonderful with my regular blood work from their usual lab. They even paid for the gene testing. And they paid...
  14. I love this crockpot one! 4 chicken breasts 20 oz can pineapple chunks 1/4 cup gluten free soy sauce dash of red pepper flakes (optional) put in crock pot for 3-4 hours on high or 4-6 on low. Serve over rice or spinach. I have also dumped them in a crock pot with a can of Progresso Creamy Mushroom soup and served over rice when I was at a loss for...
  15. I just watched youtube video today from Dr. Peterson (some famous celiac doctor apparently who tours the conventions). She said that if the genes are there and a high Ttg, then you don't have to scope. I say that, but I still scoped my oldest even with all of that. It was postive. So I can see both ways now. I would give your daughter toast every day...
  16. whew! Thanks! BTW- I just read your tag line about your son. I could give a big Amen to that. My dd is no gluten, peas, beans, apples, mustard, pork, tree nuts, cataloupe. All that leaves is junk. LOL Doritos, Reeces, well pretty much all candy, Ice cream....all ok! : )
  17. In my opinion, having Hashimotos is reason enough without symptoms for a doctor to test you. My 11 yr old has Hashis and thankfully she has a pediatrician that knows her stuff. She has screened her for it twice since her diagnosis. This last time, it was positive with a postive biospy. So...I think your doctor is just not informed. They told us at our...
  18. I am pretty sure the restaurant wasn't very careful with CC issues yesterday based on what I saw. My question is...if she was CC'd would it show up on next months repeat TTg? I have been so careful for the past 5 months and now I think we blew it. We went to a Japanese place that cooks in front of you but I believe he wiped his spatula on a towel with...
  19. Is it really bad of me to want you to do the $400 gene test just to tell her that you probably got it from her side? (I know the gene test doesn't tell you what side it came from but it would still be great to say) (((HUGS)))) Sorry she doesn't understand. I made gluten free pancakes from a mix (add blueberries) and my parents couldn't tell the difference...
  20. Thanks! I will do this. The waiting is the hardest... I wish there was ano over-the-counter test for complaince. They have urine tests for every drug in the world at Walgreens...I wish they had one for gluten. HA HA!
  21. I have the hardest time with tests! (as you can tell in my posts!) I had blood tests done only to be told by my Vanderbilt Allergist that they are so unreliable, that they won't even use them. She only uses back testing and patch. And when we did the back...it did not go with the blood that I had the pediatrician run. Blood showed soy, peanuts, milk...
  22. You are amazing! I have been sick thinking she was double DQ2 because I know how bad that is! I know you only need one though. (My celiac child is DQ2 and DQ8 like my type 1 diabetic husband) I still guess that means my husband and I both have the genes for that to happen! We both test negative so far. They did not run anything else that I know of...
  23. Thanks for helping me sort this out! I went and got her results. (Anyone else have a file the size of Texas with results?) Reticulin Ab (IgA) Negative Endomysial Ab (IGA)- Negative Gliadin Antibody (IgG)- 19 (11-17 was "equivical" and over 17 was pos.) Gliadin Antibody IgA - under 3 (This was neg. since it needed to be over 11 for positive)...
  24. They did the full panel on her twice. One was normal in March and the other showed weak pos. in December. I just need one more blood test because I do not trust them to be accurate. My first child (celiac) had a TTG of 164 at the pediatrician and two weeks later at the GI it was 7. (Both were supposed to be under 5) We had no change in diet at that...
  25. So next month we go back to retest my 9 year old. My 11 yr old already had diagnosed celiac. My 9 year old had a weak positive TTG in December but she lacked the EMA antibody that my 11 year old has. The doctor said to retest in 6 months. So, we have kept her on gluten as much as we could safely do with the other child in the house. She doesn't have...
