  1. Today at the grocery, there were some great items that had the warning "manufactered on shared equipment that manufacters wheat". I have been told that is basically a cover-your-tail move in case of accidently exposure. I wonder if you guys go ahead and eat them or not. One was labeled gluten free with a tag on the shelf yet still had that warning! I...
  2. My daughter was diagnosed in December. She doesn't have any reaction outwardly to gluten so I am never sure if she is getting glutened or not. I am careful at home but if we eat out, never sure. Just found out that the Bath and Body antibacterial she carries is made from wheat germ oil. GREAT! She has not had her blood retested since going gluten-free...
  3. That's sounds crazy! And like the other poster. I read the exact opposite. More babies who are born by c-section have celiac disease due to not going through the birth canal. (Of course I had both mine the reg. way and she has it anyway!)
  4. oh my gosh! What is he thinking? She has celiac! My daughter has the positive blood work and positive (EMA). The doctor came out and said "I didn't see any physical signs of damage but that doesn't mean she is ok." They only take snippits of a few spots and your small intestines is LONG! My daughters came back "blunting" which is the beginning. So...
  5. I am not sure about the genes. My celiac is DQ2/DQ8. Not sure about the others. The blood tests are wayyy high though. Have you had her thryoid checked? Constipation is a big sign of that, too. My daughter had thryoid problems and celiac. I would ask for the anti-endomysial antibody test done. It will either say "Positive" or "negative". That antibody...
  6. I subscribe to a meal planning service (e-meals) She has a gluten free option. It is like $18 for 3 months and that is all you will need to get going. Just save them. Her meals are better than what I come up with and also cheaper. I just mark on the ones I don't want on the shopping list. When I go with her plan, I save more than if I went with my own...
  7. And I don't know if you live where they have BIG LOTS but they have started carrying a few gluten free items in their food section. I guess they might not be selling as well in some stores so Big Lots buys them. They had the Bob's Red Mill brownie mix (my absolute favorite..even over reg. gluten brownies)for $4.50. They also had corn pasta for $2 a bag...
  8. I think the best thing you can do is to teach her on how to handle bullies. Yes, they might be her friends but if they are making fun of her food, then she could probably say something to stop that. She can't let them get the best of her. Tell her to say "Good thing you aren't eating it then." And then enjoy her food. They will stop. Good friends won...
  9. Hope it isn't wrong to promote this but I was just getting groceries and saw where Publix has their Van's Gluten free waffles and the Gluten Free Rice Krispies for buy 1 get 1 free. (You can get just one for half price if you don't want two) It is very rare that I see specials for gluten-free food so I thought I'd pass it along.
  10. Well, she doesn't show an outward reaction but obviously something is reacting in her espophagus to have grade 3 EE. I was sent to an allergy doctor by the GI. The allergist told me that she only will do back testing for that (EE). Again...she has NO reactions (except one to nuts once over a year ago) She showed positive for all beans, peas, apples, nuts...
  11. Question: 1) Daughter #1 has celiac (biospy and blood confirmed) She is DQ2/DQ8. Daughter #2 is DQ2/DQ2 Is Double DQ2 at a greater risk? She is missing the antiendomysial antibody that her big sister has but shows slight elevations in Ttg. They just say retest her in 6 months. Can you have celiac without that positive antibody showing? Is double...
  12. My daughter had the back prick test. The allergist told me that the RAST blood test is so unreliable that they don't even do those anymore. So we did the back thing. She has EE (along with celiacs) It is where her esophagus has too many eosinophils. It can cause swallowing problems, food stuck, etc. However, she has no symptoms and they just found on...
  13. I asked this same question a few months ago with the exact same situation! My 11 year old has Hashimotos. She was postive like you on the Ttg and endomysial antibody. Ttg can technically be false positve in people with live disease, thyroid disease like Hashimotos, and type 1 diabetics. HOWEVER....the endomysial antibody is not affected by those. I was...
  14. I totally know that any fast food is dangerous. I was just wondering when (or if) you go to them, what can you order? I am going to have to depend on your guys because my 11 year old has ZERO symptoms. We will never know if she gets glutened. (She was tested due to having a thyroid problem and they found it) So...she could eat a Big Mac and not react...
  15. I went to one support group meeting so far. It was ok but nothing earth shattering. positive: we could ask questions about anything and someone in there would have an answer, great coupons, my child got to meet another child with celiac! negative: some answering were self diagnosed and told me they had negative blood and neg. biospies so I wondered...
  16. I haven't read all the replies but I'll tell you what my nutricionist told me (AND SHE HAD CELIACS TOO) She told me that a hot dishwasher will be enough for plates, utensils, pans. But...if your pans have cracks in them to get new ones. She told me to get new muffin tins (because you know you never get those totally clean) or to use paper liners. We also...
  17. Ok, I ran into someone whose wife had celiac. He knew my 11 year old had it and gave me this recipe. It was wonderful! My in-laws were up and we made it and you couldn't tell it was gluten free! 3 ingredients! Crock Pot Molten Chocolate Cake 1 large box of Jello instant pudding (chocolate) 1 box of Betty Crocker Gluten free chocolate cake mix handful...
  18. We are doing the same thing so you have good company (or bad) depending on how you look at it. I have one celiac daughter. The other shows weak tTg but no endomysial antibodies. So they are having me retest her in 6 months. They did do a biopsy on this same kid a year ago and it was normal. But like someone said, it could have been an error in biospy...
  19. Hoepfully, once your villi heal, you will be able to handle lactose again. That is what they told me at least! I made this last night and I think it would be dairy free, too. Use a crockpot and this will be very easy since you don't cook much. (ME EITHER!) chicken breast or tenders 1 can 20 oz pineapple chunks 1/4 cup soy sauce (make sure it is gluten...
  20. I have been reading if your endomysial antibody test was postive then you almost 100% have celiacs. I guess I am confused why they even biopsy then! When my 11 yr old was biopsied, they also found eosinophilic esophagus which is caused by a food allergy. We had no clue. When tested, she was postive for all beans, all peas, apples, rice, oats, tree nuts...
  21. I married a diabetic and together we had a child who has celiacs and Hashimotos. And I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat! They are my life. But: I don't know how mean is mean. Diabetics and get grouchy if their sugar is too low or too high but mine doesn't use it as an excuse. And also, you could marry a perfectly healthy man who could be in a...
  22. true but your order doesn't come with a toy! LOL (Which is very important apparently to my kids!) So their fries are gluten free too? I am new to this and thought since they offered fruit that gluten might be in the fries! Awesome if they are gluten free too.
  23. I made this every Super Bowl party and after the diagnosis, I realized...IT'S GLUTEN FREE!! I would even have requests for this. Buffalo Chicken Dip (totally microwave made!) 1 can chicken 1 block cream cheese (easier if it is thawed out) 1 cup Ranch dressing 1/2 cup Buffalo Sauce divided(gluten-free usually but make sure) 2 cups mild cheddar...
  24. I know you said "free" but I do have to throw in one that is $5 a month. You can subscribe to www.e-mealz and they have a gluten free choice. They will make you a menu of 7 dinners (main dish and sides!) Then the best part is they have a grocery list for you labeled 1-7 beside each item. If you just hate #1 meal, then you go through and cross off all...
  25. I have two for you. One is to put your roast in the crockpot with your veggies. Pour an entire bottle of Italian Dressing over it (gluten-free of course). Cook on low for 6-8 hours. This one is called 3 packet pot roast. Disclaimer: Stolen off the crockpot gluten-free site. I did make this but it was really spicy due to the Peppercorn. My husband...
