ARCHIVED Any Low On Vit D?
1974girl replied to color-me-confused's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My mom's doctor (regular family doctor) told me that he has never tested anyone that came back in the normal range for Vit. D. All his patients show low. He wonders if the testing is even correct. Of course, that might just be his office/lab. -
ARCHIVED 1 Year In And Numbers Aren't Where They Should Be
1974girl replied to Gluten Free Girls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have they ruled out the other stuff that can also increase numbers? Hashimotos thyroiditis, type 1 diabetes, and autoimmune liver problems can all increase Ttg. We have our first repeat blood test in July and I am extremely nervous about it. I am doing the best I can but not sure if it is enough. (she is 11) -
Oh my goodness. I am eating them straight out of the bag. I found them with the regular marshmallows in Wal-Mart. Just in time for smore season and I love that they are not expensive.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bisquick
1974girl replied to Ginsou's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wow-wish I had one of those near me! I love that stuff. We love to deep fry just about everything in it. I found if you double batter it does better....egg, bisquick, egg, bisquick. If not, sometimes it just slides off. I did cheesesticks for the kids like that and they loved them. And then chicken...and turkey...and....but I am in the South and we... -

ARCHIVED Levels Of Celiac?
1974girl replied to 1974girl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks Lisa-very informative article. If they could detect damage after 50mg on the average person, then 4 slices of bread seems overkill. I guess they just want to make sure like the other person says. The support group leader told me that "I pumped my son full of it so the damage would be evident and we wouldn't have to keep doing this (biopsies)." I guess... -
ARCHIVED Levels Of Celiac?
1974girl replied to 1974girl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No one offended me. I don't mean for it to sound that way. I am just trying to put what the doctors are telling me and what people here are saying and sometimes they don't match. The endo tested her for celiacs at 7 and it was negative and they told me she was fine. I didn't change her diet. Maybe it makes me feel guilty that I didn't when you guys say... -
ARCHIVED Levels Of Celiac?

Hey, isn't a damaged thyroid enough proof?? I have one too, and if I would have known gluten did it I would have ditched gluten a long time ago. Because Hashis is a beotch to manage. Eating gluten-free is easy in comparison. -
ARCHIVED Levels Of Celiac?
1974girl replied to 1974girl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh, and my dd has hashimotos! She has had it for 4 years. They tested for celiac at that time and it was negative so I believe she had Hashi's first. I have heard (not sure if it is true) but that your second auto-immune disease will not be as strong sometimes. She stopped growing with Hashis for about a year before they figured it out. Maybe that is why... -
ARCHIVED Levels Of Celiac?

I read that link today! Maybe you posted it somewhere else? Anyway, I got grossed out by the "fecal transplants" and my SIL is studying that in pharmacy school right now. Ok, I would have to be very, very sick to get an enima that puts in someone elses poop. I sit her perfectly healthy at the moment. But my husband said "If that cured DD of celiac, would... -
ARCHIVED Levels Of Celiac?

I am a tad confused and hope someone can help explain this. Are there celiacs who don't have damage from Cross Contamination? Some of you react and others do not. My dd doesn't. I ask this because if just a tad can do damage...then why do you have to eat 4 pieces of bread a day for months for a gluten challenge? Why not just one? If one piece doesn't... -
ARCHIVED Asymptomatic Celiac
1974girl replied to klosmo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks... she has done very well so far but has cried twice. Once, people brought Krispy Kreams and she couldn't have one. And other time, we were at Red Robin (gluten free buns!) and our friends' children ordered a dessert she couldn't have. She cried right there in the restaurant. It was tough. The support group leader told me her dad was diagnosed at... -
ARCHIVED Asymptomatic Celiac
1974girl replied to klosmo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I could have written this whole thing for my 11 year old. She has hashimotos and every 3 years, they test her for celiac out of caution. This time, it was positive and biopsy shows blunting. However, her antibodies are not getting better after 5 months of gluten free. I have read that it helps and I have read other studies that it does not help. So..... -
This exact question is what caused my daughter to be diagnosed with celiac. Her antibodies are off the chart. Supposed to be below 35 and she was 2800. She has been on meds for 4 years that control the hormones and her blood work for her levels are normal. However, her antibodies are still ragingly attacking her thryoid. I asked the pediatrician if...

My daughter had ulcers where they found the celiac. The first doctor said, "Oh, it could be the start of Chrones." I immediately burst into tears. The second opinion said, "They were found where the celiac was found and I think they were caused by the celiac. She would have symptoms if she had Chrones." Anyone else have ulcers that were healed by gluten...

There is a ton of gluten free candy. But like he said, watch for malt flavoring. It knocks out a few. Also, watch out for the minis or different shapes. For example, Butterfingers are gluten free but the other day my daughter got the snack pack and they were not. I think Reeces are but the odd shapes may not be. (Like Christmas trees, etc) Someone...

ARCHIVED Tell Me About Your Repeat Blood Test
1974girl replied to 1974girl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
thanks- If they can't find anything with his thyroid, are they checking his liver and for type 1 diabetes too? I know my friend's 4 yr old son does not have celiac but has a liver issue that causes it to be high. My DH has type 1 diabetes and I know that can make it high too. I assumed you have to have symptoms of diabetes but apparently your body makes... -
ARCHIVED Daughter positive
1974girl replied to scstampin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, please insist on a large number of biopsies. I told my doctor that and he still only took 4 from only 2 different places. (2 in each place) Thankfully, she still showed blunting in one place but he did not take enough according to the Celiac Center. You won't offend him...just hope he listens. -
ARCHIVED My Daughter Just Diagnosed And I Have A Couple Questions
1974girl replied to scstampin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter was diagnosed with low thyroid at 7 after she didn't grow for about a year. So keep this in check! Low thyroid can also cause contipation. I am sure that is why they checked that. 4 years later, my same child was diagnosed with celiac. But...Ttg can be high from low thyroid, too. Do the biopsy but INSIST that they take at least 6-10 biopsies... -

ARCHIVED Tell Me About Your Repeat Blood Test
1974girl posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Next month, I will take my daughter back for her 6 month check-up. They will see if her levels have fallen since going gluten free. I can't think of any exposure but then again she doesn't show symptoms so I wouldn't know anyway. She has hashimotos thyroid and I know that can raise Ttg, too. On your repeat blood test, did it show normal or does it take... -
ARCHIVED Just How Toxic Is Gluten?
1974girl replied to phil1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can only tell you what my nutritionist who has celiac told me. She said that a dishwasher is enough to clean the utensils. But she said to get a new toaster and muffin tins for sure. No matter how you clean them, you just can't get the gluten out. If you use old muffin tins, you must use the paper liners. I think you are supposed to replace any cutting... -
Now, that pizza I would feel safe giving her. I like the disposable cutter and bake in a bag idea.

ARCHIVED Results Of Kids Testing :(
1974girl replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have gone through the same thing. My husband is type 1 diabetic and they share almost the same genes as celiac. (Both are Dq2 AND dQ8 triggered) So, when my daughter tested postive on blood, I wasn't sure we wanted to scope. I probably would have gone gluten free if the biopsy was negative because I would have regretted it if she had infertility or...
