  1. oh wow! Awesome of you to check twice. I never looked after I saw it the first time! We have only been buying the blue ones! I read their announcement and some will be labeled gluten free. Others (like Doritos) are listed as "not containing gluten". The difference is that the Doritos and tons of others are made on the same lines as others containing...
  2. Ok...no one has mentioned McDonalds sundaes. Aren't they ok? I have heard they were. We do those once a week. Disclaimer: my daughter will show no symptoms so until this first blood work comes back, I don't know if I am doing ok. Also-I am sorry but your puking story had me cracking up. Not because your child was sick but you have a great way of...
  3. I am glad to read this. My daughter (diagnosed 5 months ago) has been eating us out of house and home. I have been buying a lot of "gluten free" prepackaged food so she'd feel normal. It just isn't holding her.
  4. Sounds like you are not diabetic...at least from those numbers! YIPPPEEE!
  5. At the local support group, there is a child who is 10 and very overweight and very celiac. He also has diabetes. I would for sure have him tested to try and head off any other auto-immune diseases that might come with it being ignored. It sure can't hurt. My daughter was in the 80% for weight when she was diagnosed. She has trimmed down in the 5 months...
  6. We go to a local place about once a month. They have a seperate oven, utensils, and toppings. So far so good. But...every single time, I quiz them to make sure nothing has changed. My kids get embarrassed that I ask the same person the same thing but I don't care. The waitress did tell me that they had a lady call back and complain that she was sick but...
  7. Here are some quick ones but I have no idea if they contain soy though. Frozen Tilapia over hashbrownsFrozen hasbrowns are usually gluten free. Read the label though. Canned diced tomatoes frozen tilapia (sometimes b1g1 free at Kroger) Make your hashbrowns like directions say. Bake your fish in the oven. I never thaw mine first. Layer Hashbrowns...
  8. I think the link is mainly with type 1 diabetes. My husband has that and we have a celiac child. He has genes DQ2 and DQ8 which can go with either one. My daughter shares those same ones so we will still keep a watch out for that. How old are you? Most type 1s occur before 25. You may still be type 2 diabetic however and it not be related. I am not...

    ARCHIVED Ulcers?

No, she doesn't have mouth ulcers. She had them in her duadenal bulb (sp?) which was the only spot where her celiac was found.
  10. How is Mama doing? I know some parents are relieved to find an answer but I was crushed to get it because my daughter can eat a Big Mac with no symptoms. I would like to say that 5 months ago, I got the same diagnosis for my 11 year old. I know how you feel. I was sent to a nutritionist within 1 hour of the diagnosis. My husband was left dealing with a...
  11. The very first appointment with the endo, she had her tested for celiac. I have never even heard of it. So I know that endo suspected something but dismissed it when the blood work was fine. They never even told me to try gluten free. I am being very strict but it makes me wonder since they are not going down! I dont' want to wait 6 years. I want to snap...
  12. Being disabled and low income doesn't mean that your parents can't help you have a safe enviroment. Don't give them a pass on that! Don't use the toaster...period. You can't get it clean enough. Line your pans with tin foil and cup cake liners for muffin pans. You can still take out the food from the pantry/cabinet, clean the shelves, and make you a big...
  13. I have one celiac child and one not. Until the blood work on the other child shows celiac, I am not going gluten free with her. But that's just me. But my father had cluster migrain headaches all growing up. They did not sound anything like your sons but they may not all be the same. They are also called the "suicide headache" because of how severe they...
  14. I sure hope that it is safe. I eat it all the time. It was in a book I bought that tells grocery store items and if they are safe. My nutritionist recommended it. Anyway, it said it was safe.
  15. I am not gluten free and my hair is very dry from coloring every 6 weeks. That may be the problem. I found some Organix shampoo that is free from sulfates and gluten (my dd has to use it for celiac). It is at Walgreens in a red bottle. ONLY the red. I love how one they advertise is GLUTEN FREE. The others they advertise as WHEAT PROTEIN! Sorry- rant...
  16. How long did it take you to get your antibodies back down to normal after going gluten free? My daughters actually went up after 6 months. Not much but still up. Someone else here said 6 years before theirs were normal. I just hope they go down period. I want to prove to the pediatrician that gluten free helps. She is still skeptical.
  17. I am glad it is someone else's child and not just mine. : ) I have one daughter who complains of belly aches alot. Some are just because she gets full. Ironically, this is NOT my celiac child. I used to freak out and tell my husband that she was getting celiac. Then we realized it was at bath time, bedtime, and time to clean your room time. Then she...
  18. What kind is the best? I have one child yet to be diagnosed but we know she has the genes. I'd love to try anything. What kind is the best for kids?
  19. I have heard some Chrones patients can heal with gluten free. My daughter had inflamation and ulcers (not from H-pylar)also in her small intestines. The first doctor came out and said it might be the start of Chrones but he wasn't sure. The second doctor said she thought the inflamation was from celiac since the biopsy showed blunting. I am hoping to...
  20. Have you thought of doing a biopsy? I am not sure personally about the blood tests alone BECAUSE my daughter had a ttg of 164 and then 2 weeks later at another place it was 7. We had not changed diet at that point. The second doctor said she would have swore they had the wrong blood if her thryoid test wasn't on there. No one had an explantion. They were...
  21. I will be interested to read any responses from this. My dad has hemocromatosis (sp??) and I have the genes for celiac. My child has it. Dad has had a endo and they didn't see any signs but they didn't do blood work. They are not really concerned about his hemo. If he gets levels too high, then he just donates blood.
  22. My daughter didn't grow somewhere between 6 1/2 and 7 1/2. That is what triggered her pediatrician to look at her thyroid. They found it was way low. I do believe that everyone here is correct, it is probably just a normal thing. But...since hypothyroidism can stunt growth, too and it goes often with celiac....have them do a blood test when they draw her...
  23. Ours didn't advertise them on the menu until recently when they got new menus. They had them but you had to ask for them. Did you call or just look on the menu?
  24. We eat there probably more than we should due to that bun! My waitress always would put down "no salt" on my daughter's fry order. I questioned that and told her that celiacs could have salt. She said, "The reg. fries are fried with something else (maybe onion rings??) and the "no salt" fries are fried in a seperate fryer. I think it is just standard...
  25. Thanks! Very informative! I have a kid with each other those types. They haven't diagnosed my double DQ2 child yet but if she gets symptoms, it apparently will be bad. : (
