  1. When we went she asked me my dd favorite foods and then she gave me subs. It was the same day as her diagnosis so I was starting at zero. She had celiac herself so the best part was just letting me know this was not the end of the world. I was supposed to go back but I think I have a handle on it now.
  2. Dd is DQ2.5 and DQ8. Husband has the same but it turned out type 1 diabetic in him Dd has hashis and celiac and eosinophilic esophagus. She has no GI symptoms at all. It's all internal. Jury is still out on type 1. I am praying going gluten free will stop that.
  3. I was just at Walgreens and they had some gluten-free / dairy free bars on an end cap. They looked so good. They were $1.29. I forgot the name but it had the word "orchard" in it. They do have nuts in them so i couldn't get them for my dd but wanted to share. They were specifically labeled gluten-free and dairy free for those who need that.
  4. Oh thanks! That helps. There are sometimes when they would be a lifesaver for us too. I have never looked at the graham one due to the name. I get her newest bloodwork back on Tuesday and if we have been doing good so far I will let her try one.
  5. My non celiac husband spends most of Christmas in the bathroom because every year my 88 yr old Memaw gives him cashews. He can't eat just one. He eats the whole thing in 1 sitting!
  6. Someone told me Body by Vi had gluten free. I haven't checked myself though. But I do have a friend who lost over 100 pounds on them. ( and diet and exercise). She only did one a day so obviously she did more.
  7. She is a silent celiac so it wouldn't bother her. I just wonder if it would do damage. I guess we really don't know.
  8. I have been eating the peanut and chocolate Zone bars. I don't have celiac. I am wondering if my celiac daughter can eat them. There isn't gluten listed but it says made in a facility that processes wheat. I avoid "same equipment" but is the same facility ok? Anyone eat zone bars?
  9. Thanks! Our doctor said she could tell that we were doing a good job by how concerned we were. She said that some parents literally don't take it seriously. She will ask "Have you been gluten free?" she said some parents will look at the 10 yr old and say "have you?". What???? Also some divorce situations mom does good and dad lets them eat whatever. (or...
  10. My daughter went for her 6 month repeat. Question : if she has been glutened in the past 6 months, how long does it stay in the blood? Just can't imagine that somewhere in 6 months there hasn't been cc somehow. Gluten is everywhere. We still go on vacations and to grandparents houses ( both live out of town). She is a silent celiac so I don't know. But...
  11. My dd had the EMA and biopsy said "simplification" found only in one spot. But she has it. My husband is type 1 diabetic and they tell me this might help prevent that from triggering. She already has low thyroid. Go gluten free and hopefully save her from other worse auto immune diseases. If insurance will pay for a 2 nd opinion the. Have the blood work...
  12. To answer about hypithyroid. It is different in kids. My pediatrician said that people bring in their overweight children all the time and demand their thyroid be tested. She said she knows if they have normal height then it probably isn't that. Growth is a big sign in kids.
  13. My dd is silent and we Found out when they ran a blood test. She has low thyroid and her dad is type 1 diabetic. They randomly tested her and she had it. Biopsy showed minimal damage but damage the same. I am sorry. It is a hard thing. Did they do the ema test? It is like 98% correct. Some labs do that and some don't. ((hugs))). I've been there. Heck I...
  14. One was biopsied and proven celiac. She is gluten free. The youngest had been biopsied and negative 9 months before. The doctor told me to wait 6 months. If she has high TTg ( and it was weak positive not crAzy high like oldest) we will go gluten-free without a scope. Somewhere I read that more GI docs are diagnosing celiac with 2 positive blood tests and...
  15. My dd didnt grow her kindergarten year. I noticed the curve was down. She went from 50% to 21%. They found she was hypothyroid. (celiac diagnosis was negative at that time but positive 4 years later). So I'd have the thyroid panel done.
  16. People want something helpful to say. If they just say "that must be hard. I'll pray for you" will seem to them like it's dismissing it. It makes people feel better to tell you about Elizabeth Hasselbeck "has that too" or Dr. Oz had a show on it. People who say anything are really just trying to show empathy. I can't imagine the dumb things I say to people...
  17. So I hear that it is a 1 in 22 chance that a sibling will get celiac. However, judging by this forum it is much higher than that. Even the Duggars would only have 1 celiac with those ratios ! I have 2 kids and both have high TTg. One is being retested today. But so many here have more than 1 child with it, it makes me really question the 1:22 thing.
  18. My dd goes tomorrow for her 6 month check and she is silent. I don't know if that is the norm but we were told to.
  19. I have wondered if puberty triggers it too. My dd was 11.

    ARCHIVED Celiac And Time

I am not sure that it is good that you have had symptoms since 1988 and it was just now found. But that happens here, too, I suppose. But back to your question....the celiac support group leader of my town told me that her father was diagnosed at 98. When she was diagnosed due to DH, she had him tested due to knowing he was always anemic. They didn...
  21. I hate cooking. I hate it. After my dd was diagnosed i cried for 2 weeks. I think the first week was for her and the second week was for ME! I subscribe to www.emeals.com and subscribed to the gluten free menu. She gives 7 dinners and the grocery list. No I don't like everything but they are all very easy with minimum ingredients. There are things I swore...
  22. That's what they told my dh in 1992. He got it within a few months on his college booster shots. Always wondered if that triggered it. Some shots have live viruses in them.
  23. I seriously almost made a post about this same topic. Yes, I obsess over it. My husband is type 1 and my daughter has his exact genes (Dq2 and Dq8) He got it his first year in college and she will be 12 this month. I have researched my brains out and will tell you what I have found. 1)There is a trial study going on if you would be interested. You...
  24. She did take her own silverware but she drank out of the cup at the restaurant without a straw. I only ordered her a drink. That's all I can think of. But she was literally dancing outside on the porch about 25 minutes after it started. It was just weird. I do have a gluten dd (9) in the house becuase they are retesting her this week to see if she has...
