I hate people like that! I'd have been tempted to tell her to kiss the fattest part of my red velvet cupcake enhanced arse. (I've said similar things in the past on my snarky days when people get under my skin.) -

I hope you like it, I did! My biscuits were really good tonight. Sadly I had my first heat allergy reaction in my own kitchen tonight. My forearms and part of my left handed ended up covered in actual, for real, hives from dealing with the oven. I'm very unhappy with my completely dysfunctional immune system this evening. I think I'll go console myself... -
Hand washing dishes isn't a problem. I do it, and in a house with gluten eaters. What I do not do, and would never consider doing, is using a gluten covered rag to wash my dishes. It's possible you're grasping at straws. It's also possible that you're just depositing gluten right back on your dishes if you aren't careful. When I do dishes, because I share...

White or red? I can't recommend any store bought white sauces that are good, but I find the Classico alfredo to be adequate in a pinch. If I buy red I go for Dave's Gourmet, which admittedly is not in everyone's budget. It isn't even in my budget, which is fine because I'm not supposed to eat tomatoes and I only buy it on sale so it all works out. My fall... -

I hate when this happens! I'm always disappointed and a little sad. We're having breakfast for supper. Biscuits and breakfast potatoes and eggs and ham. -

Adalaide replied to Patt's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You probably just snapped finally. It happens. I know, it happened to me, which is why I can say with surety that it has nothing to do with gluten. I was still undiagnosed back then, but it is obvious to me now that my symptoms began when I was very small. You did what you were supposed to, what was expected of you, the right thing, and finally one day it... -

I'm wondering at what age you got married, or why you are saying you never got a childhood. Not that it's any of my business. At any rate, it is "normal" for people to have a point at which something triggers a breaking point for them and they choose to experience everything they feel they missed. It has absolutely nothing to do with gluten. -

A few years ago I failed at starting a secretarial business. This week I got a call from someone who found my old website and was looking for a quote. Nothing says I can't work as an independent contractor, so although transcription wasn't something I've previously done, I have ears and I can type so I quoted a price, got the audio and figured I have all... -

ARCHIVED Red Velvet Cupcakes
Adalaide replied to moosemalibu's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Make cupcakes? I'm a spoiled brat. I buy cupcakes from gluten free bakeries. For me cupcakes are usually a special treat and when I feel entitled to a special treat I don't feel like I should have to make it myself. I usually make other things, mostly bread these days to be perfectly honest. Bread of all sorts, but not sandwich bread. I buy that crap. I...- 20 replies

Don't forget to save room for creme brulee, they all serve it. I've been tempted on occasion to go just for a Brazilian lemonade and dessert. -

Seriously. It's like Mother Nature is bipolar or something this year. I can't leave the house at any given moment without checking the weather because not only between days, but in the same day I have no idea if I will go from needing a coat to not or vice versa. Mother Nature needs to get back on her meds. -

ARCHIVED Glutened At Rodizios In Nashville
Adalaide replied to Reinhard1's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Maybe it's just local then? Or maybe it was an issue just once? I don't know. Someone (staff, not a random person) told me don't eat it so I didn't. I trusted them when they told me it wasn't safe because I figured they may know something or something changed. Or maybe they were in the process of changing things, who knows. I guess it's proof again that things... -
ARCHIVED Glutened At Rodizios In Nashville
Adalaide replied to Reinhard1's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I eat at Rodizio, sadly not frequently because of the prices but it is one of my favorite places to go. It does not have a salad bar in the sense that most people think of one, and is more like a cold food bar. There are not croutons or other gluteny items that can scatter crumbs or easily CC things. When I have gone only 1 or 2 selections each time has not... -
ARCHIVED Infuriating Article On New gluten-free Restaurant
Adalaide replied to C-Girl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I used to be all panicky about the whole shared blah blah blah stuff. There's gluten everywhere, it's lurking in every corner, every crevice, every nook and cranny just waiting to get me. Then I got the whole the planet is a shared facility spiel and realized that I was being ridiculous. Who wants to live like that? Constant fear that danger lurks around... -

I'm going to second that. I would never, under any circumstances, eat somewhere where the people I was dealing with didn't speak fluent English. I suppose I would make an exception if I spoke a second language and could communicate effectively, but I don't. If I can't be sure that they understand my needs, I'm not going to risk my health for one meal. Sadly... -
Few neurologists (in my experience) will take a patient without a referral from a doctor. Frankly, after talking to so many receptionists and hearing so many ask what doctor would be referring me I would hesitate to trust one who felt they needed to take patients "off the street" without a referral. Your doctor can also help you decide if seeing a neurologist...

ARCHIVED Glutened? My Own Stupid Mistake..tmi
Adalaide replied to frozen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First, one mistake isn't the same as undoing the entire time you've been gluten free. It took time to do damage to your body, it didn't happen in one overindulgent moment with cookies. So, the cookies... the first mistake was simply trusting the sticker on cookies that they were gluten free without an ingredient label and from their cafe. I've been in... -
ARCHIVED Dietician Was No Help! Need A Meal Plan
Adalaide replied to answerseeker's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't make quesadillas with flour tortillas, I just use Mission brand corn tortillas. I'm far too lazy to make a flour tortilla and I've never found an even halfway decent replacement. They're a little smaller, but the crisp when you fry them (especially if you use a teensy bit of butter on the outsides) is extremely satisfying. -
There can be a lot of problems or diseases that are linked to celiac that are neurological in nature. Because I have issues unresolved on a gluten free diet (and actually worsening over the last year) I will see a neurologist to get a diagnosis of the problem. Only a diagnosis of the underlying cause can help you to make an educated decision about what the...

ARCHIVED Would A Little Salt Hurt?
Adalaide replied to Aquadan005's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Breton. Totally Breton. They have the texture very like a Ritz cracker (no, I'm not messing with you and I didn't forget what a Ritz is really like in 2 years) and have amazing flavor. I eat them all the time with cheese and meat. I have a box next to my desk so I grabbed one out and while there isn't a ton of salt, if I hold it up in the light I can see... -

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm rather disappointed tonight in my dinner. We had tacos, for me for the first time in months. Neuva Cocina went out of business and I frankly have no interest in any other taco seasoning because nothing else could ever compare. My husband talked me into making tacos anyway, and I did and made my own seasoning because the only one available in any of the...
