  1. Did she have the test for ttg? I would insist on that.
  2. Anyone else? The genetic test was declined by insurance but the doc wants her to get it, he pushed for an appeal and is trying to get it covered. I am also having her ttg retested and checking endomysial antibody, the first GI did not test that, just a good thing to know. She is gluten free at home with the rest of us, but haven't taken it out completely...
  3. Being fearful of eating out will be there- there are good safe places to eat, so long as the person taking care of you knows what they are doing! I have been to Outback and PF Changs each once, both fabulous experiences, great knowledge and super nice and helpful. I also eat at Chipotle once a week, no problem, I order a bowl, they wash hands and change gloves...
  4. There is nothing wrong with wanting to try a mixed household, I have two kids and know how hard it is- my 8 year old is way more accepting and willing to try things, but my 4 year old lives on pasta- I had a separate collander and pasta pan with utensil, only used when cooking their pasta, even a separate scrubber to wash it, but it was difficult to have...
  5. My oldest tested hight ttg and is still going through diagnosis process (had a normal biopsy) my youngest was normal, but I will retest him regularly because I have a feeling he will be positive in the future. I had them screened when I discovered I had it, no symptoms in either of them so I thought- until I discovered that the joint pain my oldest has had...
  6. I am SO happy with Country Life, aside from being truly gluten free, they are the only vitamins I take religiously and swallow/tolerate easily. I take the balanced coenzyme B complex, the Easy Iron which is awesome, a unique form of iron that is better absorbed and easy on the stomach, and also their Vitamin D 5000 units. The pills are vegetable capsules...
  7. I actually am seen every 3 months right now, but I think once my numbers are normal, it will be less frequent. My daughter is what they call latent, she has positive blood but normal biopsy. She has just started the diet and her antibodies will be checked at 6 months.
  8. First of all, I am not even sure that having "latent" celiac is a real thing, and neither is my pediatric GI, however it is the situation my almost 8 year old is in. She was positive on blood work, normal on biopsy- I also had the pathology re-done with a new pediatric GI to get a second opinion, was told her villi were fabulous and long and delicate, and...
  9. I also wanted to add that if your own daughter HAS celiac, she got it from someone!
  10. What I was tested for: Vitamin D B12 Folate Iron, full anemia panel including ferritin TSH, T3 and T4, autoimmune thyroid (Hashimotos) My iron and folate dropped AFTER going gluten free ( in 3 months time) so I am now taking iron and a good B complex in addition to vitamin D.
  11. I am currently going through a celiac diagnosis process with my almost 8 year old child, whose only symptom is joint pain. We only had her tested though because I discovered I have celiac 6 months ago, as she had no celiac symptoms, her pediatrician suggested having her screened just due to the genetic factor. We were pretty shocked her numbers came back...
  12. Exactly. Well said, I will be the type of person with that nagging what if in the back of my mind---- making her gluten free is not a problem, and she is accepting of it at almost 8 years old, very willing and fine with the changes that are happening. Great attitude. The point is, I know how careful I need to be, eating out, cross contamination, etc so I...
  13. Absolutely get the testing for autoimmune thyroid- I had always had normal TSH tests, but once learning I had celiac my GI ran the more complete thyroid panel (T3, T4 etc) in addition to the testing for autoimmune thyroid. I am normal on all of the above tests, but it is a great thing to know that and go on making myself healthy. It is such useful information...
  14. I did not find the comment rude- and I agree, I would prefer a formal diagnosis for school and other accomodations down the road. She attends a private school and we don't need anything official, we just coordinate with classrom teacher and send her safe lunches, parties are coordinated, etc. But I would just like to have a diagnosis with more than her one...
  15. I am compiling a list of safe snacks and treats that my child can have at school or school parties- I will be giving her teacher a baggie of these things to keep on hand. Also, the room coordinator is a friend of mine and said that most of the parents are very accomodating of kids with food allergies and she can add on to the letters about upcoming parties...
  16. This entire process sucks. Really. I have posted before about having my 7 year old do the biopsy, etc- long story short, I have been gluten free 5 months after finding out I have celliac, had both our kids tested because of the genetics. My oldest came back with high ttg at 78.20 (normal <20) and the GI did not test her for EMA at that time. Sent her for...
  17. I contacted Target by phone, gave her the lot numbers and medication info, she had to contact manufacturer on each medication to determine if ingredients were gluten free. She got back to me on a couple, gluten free. She is still waiting on the one medication, been several days. My Target ibuprofen, and liquid children's ibuprofen are actually labeled with...
  18. I have called Target about their OTC meds and are awaiting an email, she kindly said they do not have a list of medications that are gluten free, what they do is contact the vendor/manufacturer on each specific product. So while she is doing that, I have found the answers to many of my questions online searching, but thought since many of you have been there...
  19. I was a teeny bit low in iron and folate- my D level was 36, which is in normal range but still hoping to raise it up, my B12 was 357 which is normal, but also think that could be up quite a bit. I started a good quality B complex for the folate and B vitamins, and an iron supplement, in addition to my vitamin D. I also take probiotics and digestive enzymes...
  20. My hubby went gluten free when I did 4 months ago, it is so much easier to do it together and cook in the same kitchen! He lost a ton of weight doing a paleo type diet before going gluten free, so he was already pretty familiar with low grains- he then read Wheat Belly and the transition was pretty easy for him.
  21. I have been taking Source Naturals enzymes.
  22. I am 4 months gluten free and JUST starting to feel increase in energy, decrease in fatigue, and it hasn't been drastic. Some take more time!
  23. My pediatrician wouldn't even test my children, she sent us to a pediatric GI. This can take time to get in, so I agree, I would honestly just begin there to start with. Good luck!
  24. Mini Larabars? Yay! My oldest likes them but they are a bit too much for her to finish
  25. Also, I take the Critical Care probiotics by RenewLife- 50 billion multi strain. I like them quite a lot.
