  1. Kinnikinnick Tapioca white rice is my children's choice. The slices are large, chewy, not sticky. Looks like regular bread, tastes like regular bread. Lightly toasted or just warmed up. Keep frozen. Breaks apart easily. Some breads are solid bricks when frozen! Kinnikinnick makes great donuts, bagels *we don't like the cinnamon raisin ones*, pizza...
  2. You could email Danna Korn. She promotes and runs the R.O.C.K. (raising our celiac kids) walks. We've done them four years in a row now and I think she's really worked out the kinks. Our last one in May was great. Go to the ROCK web site and email her from there. Good luck!
  3. Ohio Chagrin Wild Oats Natural Marketplace Cincinnati Wild Oats Natural Marketplace Deerfield Wild Oats Natural Marketplace Upper Arlington Wild Oats Natural Marketplace Here are some Wild Oats stores in Ohio for you. If there's one close to you, you can call the store and ask for a tour of the gluten free products they offer. If you have the...
  4. My dr said lots of women have gallbladder problems after pregnancy. He seemed to stress this was a major contributing factor in gallbladder problems. Since my gallbladder removal, I've heard from lots of women that they had theirs removed shortly after childbirth. I was surprised.
  5. Chebe is great. You can experiment with the stuff, too. We added Mesquite flour and raisins to our Cinnamon Chebe and it was exactly like a bagel. I've also just discovered adding some baking powder for a fluffier effect. I don' do find I have to cook it longer than the package says. My kids didn't like it rolled out into the Cinnabon shape, they like...
  6. Welcome to the board! Here are the foods my family eats and likes. On-line Kinnikinnick.com White tapicoa rice bread is great, donuts, bagels, pizza crusts..all are the best we've tried. Kinnikinnick has a great shipping policy - $10 flat fee, and a points program. You won't find better service, charges, and food. Chebe.com It is a powder mix...
  7. I didn't see the dramatic withdrawl from gluten at all. Twice I've gone gluten free in the past year and neither time did I feel even slightly like I was going through withdrawals. My husband and two other non-celiac kids also just went gluten free...about a month ago, now. They all say the same thing. No cravings or need for gluten. Do you suppose it...
  8. My son's teeth look terrible, but once again, the dentist assures me they're fine. She even took xrays and looked at the new teeth coming in and said it all looks good. No cavities, no enamal problems that she can see. I can't believe it, but I guess I have to at this point. I'm thankful, but I was sure there were problems due to the polka dotted nature...
  9. Green teas are ok. You know, it's mainly the brands that are combinations of spices and such that throw in the barley. I've never heard of the bags being a problem. If you're into green teas *I am too*, you can get it loose and get a little tea ball to brew it in. I prefer the Republic of China green tea and that's already bagged. I'm picky about my...
  10. Some teas contain BARLEY. Be careful. Celestial Seasonings surprised me.
  11. Jimbo- You can soak the ener-g bread in a mixture of eggs/vanilla/cinnamon/sugar. I mean, really let those bread slices soak. Then make french toast with them. I'd imagine you could soak those shingles for a few hours in the fridge. I'm sure they wouldn't fall apart! Anyway, hate to hear someone's wasting expensive food...even if it is that crappy...
  12. I added 2tblspoons of sweet rice flour because I couldn't see how the peanut butter and sugar wouldn't just turn into gooey slime. Have you seen what happens to peanut butter on toast? Anyway, I also added lots of chopped bakers chocolate *kraft brand*. They're so delicious! Thanks!
  13. Get back at the cone makers and eat your gluten-free icecream in a re-useable dish. Email them and tell them you can live without cones for the price they're charging...or better yet, tell them Wal-mart has taken up the battle cry of the Celiac and we're sure THEY'LL come up with an affordable cone!!
  14. Wal-mart replied saying they've had many favorable responses to their effort to inform consumers of the gluten status of their products. Good for us!
  15. Bleah. Sweet rice flour is NOT sweet.
  16. Just printed it out. My daughter and I will try them right now. We're going to use regular sugar. I hope that works. Doesn't it all just melt into liguidy goo? Should I throw in some rice flour? I have some sweet rice flour that I bought the other day. I had no idea what I was buying it for, it's just that I was surprised my regular supermarket had...
  17. Do you have an OutBack Steakhouse nearby? They have a gluten free menu! PF Changs is supposed to have one as well, but I do hear a lot about people being glutened there. Not the case with OutBack. You could also call ahead to the restaurant and pre-order a gluten free meal.
  18. I liked "Dangerous Grains". Talked about Gluten sensitivity on through to Celiac Disease. I made my entire family gluten free after reading the compelling facts about gluten. Most here would recommend Danna Korn's book, Wheat Free, Worry Free. I haven't read it.
  19. Oh, and Kraft velveeta cheese is gluten free. Mixed into some Tinkyada pasta for Mac and cheese. Super easy (kinda gross if you ask me) Baked beans *Bush's for sure* Oscar Mayer hotdogs Oscar Mayer bologna Hormel Salami When ordering cold cuts at a deli---check ingredients, some contain gluten, and ask the deli clerk to wipe down the slicer...
  20. Do you live near a WholeFoods, Henry's, Jimbo's, Boney's or other "health food store"? That would help a lot. Other than those as options, you can order on line and find many foods at your *regular shopping mart that are gluten free. Online recommendations: Kinnikinnick.com great sandwich breads, donuts, pizza crusts, bagels (I'm not crazy about their...
  21. Gluten can be in many things you're not aware of. Are you 100% sure you're gluten free? If there's a tiny amount of gluten finding it's way into your diet, you'll have full blown reactions if you have Celiac Disease. How long have you been gluten free...or trying to be gluten free? Test results can be inaccurate if you're gluten free for too long...
  22. It's so frustrating that Kraft doesn't just put the words "GLUTEN FREE" on it's products that are gluten-free. It's a big secret that they WILL NOT HIDE gluten. I'm less interested in the fact that they're so forthcoming with the gluten and more interested in when they'll just start labeling products gluten free. It's like an annoying joke that never ends...
  23. Open Original Shared Link I think this site will work? I don't know if there's a better one.
  24. It's also a good idea to fire off a quick email offering a sentiment of appreciation in regards to this effort to keep us informed of the gluten status. It takes a few minutes to look up Wal-Marts head office on line. If they see a positive response, they'll capitalize on that appreciation. When other food suppliers hear of the positive publicity, they...
  25. I am sorry to say, your numbers suggest you do Celiac. I'm sorry because your doctor sounds confused as well as confusing. This is no way to regain your health. Good luck.
