  1. Oh, yeah. There's eggs in it. Kinnikinnick has a spelt bread I got for myself. It's good, but I guess it's going to have eggs in it as well. It's very spelty. Chebe is really good. I actually made it tonight and was kind of sick of it though.
  2. Merika- we used the black china rice for several years. It was my son's favorite. I've got to tell you, the Kinnikinnick tapioca rice bread is soooo+++ much better. It's not sticky, either. It's like Pepperidge Farm white bread. *do they make that anymore? And there's no separating the slices! Ordering on line is easy and it's a flat $10 shipping.....

  4. Btw...regardless of rights, I'd write an opinion piece in the local paper telling of my experience. Their adherence to a "no substitutions" policy in the face of an actual disability is appalling.
  5. You have a valid complaint, and I'm thinking you're covered because of my experience with the schools. They are required to provide a gluten free meal to a child with c.d. if they're providing meals to other students. I used my local justice dept for a letter to a preschool that was trying to deny my son access to their school a few years back. They claimed...
  6. Open Original Shared Link You could email these folks and see what they say. Good luck.
  7. I don't know what brand of bread you bought, but some are a nightmare to separate. I used to get the Foods for life brand and it was a solid brick. I would microwave for 30 secs at a time and separate pieces as I could without overheating it. Then I put it into sandwhich baggies, laying the pieces in opposite directions so they wouldn't be inclined to...
  8. I'm not a doctor, but I think you have C.D. You shouldn't need to redo any of the tests you've already taken and paid for. You can request copies of all of those and take them to a different doctor for a second opinion. You own those test results. Some doctors get a little *clutchy* with patient records, but you're the actual owner. If I...
  9. You do have a valid complaint. You should persue it. C.D. is listed under conditions protected by laws preventing discrimination to those with a disability. It is considered a disability. Good luck. I'm actually surprised the restaurant owners haven't realized how wrong they were.
  10. Ok. Mesquite in Beef stew is not a good idea. I put only one tablespoon in a LG pot of beef stew I made today. One little Tablespoon... Blech. It is StrOONg stuff. On the chicken it was awesome. I think a little less is better with this stuff.
  11. That was probably what I was using. It sounds just like me to put an Italian paste in Chili. I once put a big roast in a crockpot with Ketchup and A-1 sauce and Worstester sauce. I thought all of those things tasted good on meat. My sister said serving that to children bordered on child abuse. My gluten free child doesn't know how lucky he's been eating...
  12. My son was three when dx. He healed in about 9 months. Couldn't handle dairy at 6 months...waited till 9, gave him milk, was all good. That's how I figure it was 9 months.
  13. Do the dieticians and nutritionists acutally help anyone deal with the new diagnosis of C.D.? How many have gone to them after being dx and felt they learned how to deal with the gluten free diet in a meaningful way? I ask because I've seen a few posts were newly dxd people are "going to the nutritionist in a week" or something like that. I know for myself...
  14. We liked the Glutino cereal bars..chocolate, blueberry...apple was kind of sour. You could bring along a box of your favorite cereal and purchase milk. Kinnikinnick donuts stay good for several days unfrozen.
  15. Tarnalberry, sorry, I was confusing there. I didn't mean Ragu and Prego made tomato paste. Just meant we use those spaghetti sauces. I don't recall the brand of paste with gluten. I only remember opening a tiny can of paste about a year ago for chili and thought to myself I should read the ingredients *JUST TO BE SURE*....and was shocked that there...
  16. Warning warning......Some tomato pastes DO have GLUTEN in them. I bought one awhile back. Always check. I use Ragu. Prego is great too. Tinkyada can is the best. Can't tell the difference between Tink and regular pastas. Nothing compares.
  17. I do not allow my child to eat wheat starch. I've heard both sides of this. I think it's a good idea.
  18. You will need to get her a separate colander to drain pastas. There's no realistic way to guarentee you've cleaned the gluten out of every hole on one of those. No wooden spoons in her stuff. Cross contamination issues. I've seen the school list stuff and haven't paid it any attention. I have my own routine. Here it is: I inform the school,...
  19. I've heard all sorts of examples of how C.D. made itself known. Some are very gradual examples, some are devastating presentations of C.D. My own son was sick for years in a way that took a long, slow toll on him. Three years of that and then out of the blue, he just dropped the pounds, began grabbing his legs in mortal agony, loose stools 24/7, glazed...

    ARCHIVED # 2 Gastro Visit

Oh, the testings not that bad. I think three years of age is worth testing for C.D. If it's negative, test him in a year or two even if there appears to be no symptoms just to rule out the false negative possibility. The tests are yours. I always get my test results printed out and take 'em home. That way I have something to refer to, something to bring...
  21. My husband's Great grandfather was an Irish orphan in New York. Our son got the C.D.
  22. I just read all the posts...Ray, Post Fruity Pebbles are neon colored sugar bombs and the Cocoa Pebbles are their dark chocolate cousins. If you're over the age of 10 they may not appeal to you. Though there are exceptions .....
  23. Open Original Shared Link Well, this is your lucky day! There's a WholeFoods in Springfield, Va. WholeFoods is one of the main "health foods" stores Celiacs like to shop at here in the U.S. Some staples WholeFoods usually carries are Envirokidz cereals *not all are gluten-free, but the boxes are marked on the top right side*, Kinnnikinnick breads...
  24. Kinnikinnick pizza crusts are good. We like the chocolate glazed and dipped donuts. We use the white tapioca bread. I got the italian white tapioca and it was smaller and dryer.
  25. No kidding!!?? I was munching out on those last night with my kids and we all thought they were waaaay too salty. I just checked and that's what it was! My husband prefers the saltiness.
