ARCHIVED Behavior Issue's Getting Worse Gluten Free?
mamaupupup replied to jenn42's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We are right behind you...10 days gluten-free...I'm still cleaning my kitchen! We have 2x celiac disease in twin 5 yr old girls. One is behaving like an angel. The other is a rollercoaster. I was warned by multiple people not to take the girls off gluten cold turkey, but I just couldn't stand having any more evil gluten around!!! I'm told there is a... -
ARCHIVED Tired Of How People Look At Me
mamaupupup replied to kaity's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Kaity, Our pediatrician grilled me at my twin girls' 2 yr old checkup for being little (both in height and weight). I felt very attacked. I said, "You are welcome to come live with us for a week to see what we eat." He clearly didn't take me up on my offer. I was mad/angry/hurt/offended...and more. Fast forward to their 5 year old checkup: each... -
ARCHIVED We Have Our Biopsy Results.
mamaupupup replied to KeegMiles's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree 100% with this. We haven't gotten the final results back on our twins' biopsies, but I'm expecting the same false negative (and the GI has hinted at this in an email). My husband and I have agreed to go forward as if they have Celiac. I think positive genes+ttg results puts us at about 97% likelihood of celiac. You are not alone! I'm personally... -

mamaupupup replied to rachelh4207's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Rachel, You are such a great mom--you are doing so much research! Here is an article from the Wall Street Journal which helped me understand...although I've learned a lot since then!: Open Original Shared Link -

mamaupupup replied to kmccormick61583's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
yes, rock and a hard place for sure! Hang in there! And, you are smart to leave a toxic environment (the restaurant). That must have been a difficult decision to make. Keep making the difficult, smart, healthy decisions you are. -
ARCHIVED Epic Story - Any Advice Appreciated
mamaupupup replied to kmccormick61583's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey Kyle, I've been thinking about the vision part. Definitely go to a good doctor. Even if you can't afford it, call the best doctor and be SUPER SUPER NICE. Tell them "I've been told that Dr. X is the best doctor to see and I have a very complex case he/she might be interested in. I really need help to figure this out and I think Dr. X is about... -

ARCHIVED Quick & Easy Breakfast Ideas For Kids
mamaupupup replied to nchalona's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi there! Yes, I spent last night pre-making batches of gluten-free pancakes for the week! Big favorite here: gluten-free Chex--and it comes in many different flavors--they should have it at your local stores. -

mamaupupup replied to kmccormick61583's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
hope you're having a good day Kyle! I too feel like people understand me, my worries, my concerns, my psychoses here better than anywhere else! I personally feel like this is the best online community I've ever encountered. On the parent note, I have one stellar parent and one despicable parent...we don't (unfortunately) get to choose our parents... -

Hey Kyle! Welcome! And, I'm incredibly impressed with how much you've achieved already. This is a big puzzle and you're taking on a huge responsibility to take it head-on. It's definitely the way to go, but not everyone does what you're doing. You can be incredibly proud of yourself. And, as a parent, I'd be proud to have you as my kid! Keep up the... -

ARCHIVED Toddler, Should I Do The Endoscopy?
mamaupupup replied to rachelh4207's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi there, I'll ask my friend about the night sweats/cancer. She was severely anemic which is how they started investigating cancer. She is amazing and has removed all sugar from her diet (cancer feeds on sugars) and is a raw-foodie. She is inspirational! For us, yes, we have kiddos with positive bloodwork (ttgs) and lots of symptoms (no D or C) but... -
ARCHIVED Is There A Downside To The Rest Of Us Going "mostly Gluten-Free"?
mamaupupup replied to Minette's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Rachel, we are hijacking Minette's post...so I'll be brief. Yes, I am realizing I had/have issues... The best example from my life was not eating much gluten for a while, then having a piece of dry toast before going for a 4 mile run. At mile 3 I knew something was up and just tried to get home. I was a block away from home when I had D in my running... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Or Overly Concerned Mommy?
mamaupupup replied to bluestar-127's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You're a great mom! If you ultimately want to test for Celiac, keep him on gluten until you test to increase the likelihood of an accurate test result! (I learned this the hard way and had to reintroduce gluten...) -
ARCHIVED Super Picky Eater Who Eats Almost Nothing But Gluten
mamaupupup replied to Minette's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I "tricked" my picky DD1 who also was addicted (in my opinion) to glutenous products last week: I served open-faced grilled cheese sandwiches (read: udi's bread covered with melted cheese). She loved it and was surprised when I told her it was gluten-free! -
ARCHIVED Is There A Downside To The Rest Of Us Going "mostly Gluten-Free"?
mamaupupup replied to Minette's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Rachel! Funny, we homeschooled through preschool (aka I played with kids, answered questions, helped them investigate various things...). I'm toying with more homeschooling (especially given Celiac Disease)...August is a ways off so I don't have to decide yet! On results, this is what I've gotten so far: "Preliminary reads on the biopsies are... -
ARCHIVED Is There A Downside To The Rest Of Us Going "mostly Gluten-Free"?
mamaupupup replied to Minette's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm with you! Yes, silent Celiac is scary! And I agree--I have almost cleared out all the gluten in the house, but somehow little things show up here and there!!??? I even felt I had to replace the girls' play makeup! Lipgloss!!! Aack! And I agree--no a diagnosis isn't necessary. I think with the kiddos it's better (the school asked for one). The... -

ARCHIVED Advice On Learning To Let Go?
mamaupupup replied to seezee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Definitely the clearest info: Open Original Shared Link Q. Can my celiac child receive gluten-free meals at school? A. Students who must adhere to a medically prescribed diet may qualify for special dietary accommodations under the National School Lunch Program. ARCHIVED Spring Break Kids Camp: Do I Laugh Or Cry?!
mamaupupup replied to mamaupupup's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks! Yes, I'm VERY thankful she is so accommodating. Shocked it had anything to do with food! Laughing because all the gluten items really could make someone with Celiac sick, vomit, poop! It's ironic! I offered to pay for all supplies to be gluten free for all kids. We have a call in the morning to see what we'll do! -
