  1. Hi there, Reading another thread reminded me that I am on the hunt for a great children's multivitamin to replace the one our GI recommended: Flintstones Complete. It has lots of food coloring and one of my kids dislikes the taste. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  2. We often pack lunches, etc. in the Ziploc divided rectangle.
  3. Oh, and I don't know if the shave ice is gluten-free, but we believed the likelihood of gluten in it was very low and enjoyed it a few times. We did avoid the toppings. We loved the fact there were no cone crumbs!!! We tried to find places that were only shaved ice (versus also serving ice cream...).
  4. Hope this is still timely! We stayed with friends half the time and stayed at the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Villas. I called the Chef Francois and he was excellent. His email is: francois.milliet@westin.com. francois milliet Executive Chef THE westin KA
  5. And I think WOW bakery is also in Colorado...and our pediatric GI said there is a higher incidence of Celiac in the Denver population than other places!
  6. Hi there! I'll try to write more later...for now a quickie: It was super helpful for us to have endoscopies for our kids: we found two additional health issues with one of our kiddos==which has also helped me help my daughter a LOT more in addition to dealing with going gluten-free! We wouldn't have known about the other things (gastritis and low digestive...
  7. Hawaii! Our vacation there was amazing (Maui). Loved it, found all the foods we needed, the chefs at restaurants were great...so many fresh fruits and veggies! I think Boulder and San Diego are also good choices (though less tropical!).
  8. Sending prayers your way! And yes, some of it can be VERY hard! First, a confessional story! My husband's cousin's kids have Celiac. Every summer we spend a week together at a family reunion. All the previous summers we intended to be understanding, kind and respectful of their desires and needs regarding how food was handled. Fast forward to this...
  9. You are super Mom! Congrats on nursing to 22 months and on your baby!!! I don't know how you're doing it all! Amazing!
  10. You are a great Mom! I'll write more in a longer post one of these nights... Based on my kids' diagnoses, I got tested. I had two sets of negative Celiac Panels (I was on a low gluten diet). I have done better off gluten, have two kids with Celiac, we all have DQ2 and DQ8. I decided to go to Dr. Harmon at UCLA for biopsies. Yep, I've got Celiac...
  11. A couple of things on the endoscopy: - The CHLA team made us all feel very comfortable, they know kids and their parents' needs well! - Both our girls came out of anesthesia upset and angry--I was unprepared for that! It wasn't really a big deal and it wore off fast, but I was caught off guard. - I made a "gluten free gift basket" for each girl...

    ARCHIVED SoCal Ped GI's

Awesome!!! That is great news!!! Ask him about the digestive enzymes test he can also biopsy for--Dr. Pietzak did it for our girls and it is helping us figure out the whole puzzle. (One of our girls has low digestive enzymes for fats, lactose, and fructose). I don't know what the test is called, so he will probably need to touch base with Dr. Pietzak....
  13. Yes, yes, yes to "if I win the lottery, I'm hiring a chef!" Ahhh...and if we all lived close enough to each other, we could take turns cooking for each other...ahh, the dreams of a Celiac Mom! xoxox to all!
  14. Hi there, I am almost in tears reading your story. This hits really close to home--and I hope I don't make you cry. I hope I do give you hope for you, your own kiddos and all the lives you will touch by helping others recognize the symptoms of Celiac! My twin five year old girls were diagnosed with Celiac in March. My GI called me today with my endoscopy...
  15. Hi there, Sorry your little girls is having such a difficult time. I don't know Peter Green personally, but I heard him speak at the Celiac Disease Foundation conference in LA in April. He seemed wonderful, knows the disease as well as anyone can at this point, and seems to care deeply. I would feel safe taking my children to him. If you are considering...
  16. A similar story from us...two girls dx with Celiac (I'm tbd, might know tomorrow!). ...we visited friends and used their dishes (but not their cutting boards or toaster, etc.)...we had glutened symptoms with our more sensitive daughter (5yrs old). Her symptoms are behavioral (really irritable, difficulty with impulse control). We have since travelled...
  17. Hi there, Our dietician suggested one of our girls take an ADEK supplement. Any suggestions on which one is best? Especially a chewable one for kids? Thanks in advance!!!
  18. I appreciate every personal experience on this forum, including yours, woodnewt. Thank you very much for pointing out the dishsoap issue. I will check ours first thing in the am! I am all for reducing gluten in as many places as possible. We have tried to remove gluten from every aspect of our children's lives (including toiletries, play makeup...
  19. Hang in there and keep documenting! You might also want to take pics of the dinner table to document (I have been doing this so I can write down in my food log later after dishes are done, etc.). The CPS issue has been nagging at me. I realize now that when our pediatrican GRILLED me about what I was feeding our twins and why they were so small at...
  20. The local Southern California mainstream pediatricians are recommending Vitamin D supplements in general. Some friends are giving their kids a LOT. We spend in excess of 3 hours outside a day--sometimes even 6-8 hours, so I haven't supplemented so far. I agree it's easy to do and if I didn't have such an intense outdoor lifestyle (we homeschool) I would...
  21. Crazy!!! Yes, both my girls, both dx Celiac in April. I'm adding this to my list!!! Can you share the link to the article?
  22. From: The American Society for Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition Celiac Disease, Wheat Allergy, and Gluten Sensitivity : When Gluten Free Is Not a Fad Dr. Michelle Pietzak 1/11/12 Open Original Shared Link "Increased mortality: Because of the above nutrition complications, comorbid autoimmune conditions, and higher risk for malignancies, patients...
  23. What is EPA? Here are the three probiotics I've tried with our 5.5 yr old girls: - Flora Bear for Kids by RenewLife. Chewables, keep refrigerated. Neither girl likes it much. gluten-free, but has other trace allergens (milk, shellfish) - Raw Probiotics Kids by Garden of Life. Powder, keep in fridge. This works well for one of my girls mixed into...
  24. Yes, this is HARD! We had a long day the other day--and it was a day that the kids were incredibly wonderful. Dinner was going to be really late if I made anything of substance. I figured it was one of those days where I deserved a break and the kids deserved a reward. Here was our dinner: - Each child ate a package of seaweed - And a scoop of...
