  1. I had them in my hand at WF this week--and put them back on the shelf due to oats. We are avoiding oats for a year, then re-introducing gluten-free certified oats only slowly at that time.
  2. Yay! Keep a great log like that! It helps the doctors say, "you're right" as we Mommas are 99.9% of the time And to point #2: I totally get that! We look at one of our girls and wonder who she is...sweet, compassionate, empathetic, energetic...thank goodness she was diagnosed at 5! She is a different, happier little kid! That alone is worth...
  3. thinking of you! ...and I so appreciate StephanieL's good sense of humor regarding the Snicker's bar! Yes, and I was told I was "going off the deep end" by a girlfriend when I was trying to avoid cross contamination...I was so upset for a week! Sometimes I get blindsided by a comment like that, especially when it's so unexpected. Just know...
  4. Hi there, This is a great question for a Celiac researcher. Can you call one of the major Celiac Centers and get their take on it? - Also, I wouldn't want to be injected with wheat--I would ask my Celiac GI first... - Also, I have said, "I'd rather have Celiac than hepatitis" so, I think it is worth really considering doing the shot (as long as it doesn...
  5. You are doing all the best things--most of all positioning this so well and focusing on the "can." We have cousins with Celiac who are just about to be teenagers...their mom says, "Having Celiac and having young children say "no" to things that are bad for their bodies also trains them well for things they should say "no" to later (like drugs and alcohol...
  6. nice to hear! Yes, life can be beautiful, no matter what
  7. Hang in there! Previous posters alerted you to some really good additional information--especially the thyroid stuff. From what we are learning, it takes 6-12+ months for kiddos' bellies to heal and 12-36 months for adults to heal. In our family, we had one 6 yr old who had a REALLY difficult first three months off of gluten. I don't really understand...
  8. Trust your instincts! And trust your kiddo! I have a Celiac daughter who is our "Celiac Sniffer." She can tell if something is cross contaminated...she lifts it to her lips but won't eat it... Thinking of you!
  9. You are a GREAT mom and are on the right track! It is difficult at first and you will definitely find your rhythm. We talk all the time about how awesome it is that ice cream is gluten free (we often eat the coconut milk ones and have made three batches of homemade ice cream for Thanksgiving--lactose free, one dairy free). Yes, find some non-provocative...
  10. You will do a great job protecting yourself! Yes, we've done all of the above and been fine...we camp all the time and do take our camping pans to friends' houses! One of the other things you could consider doing is to make food for yourself ahead of time, freeze it, put it in a cooler and check the cooler. We haven't done this for flight travel yet...
  11. Thank you!
  12. I found a $32 gingerbread house kit at a and j bakery. Since that is too pricey to me, I kept searching and found free templates and a great recipe at Pamela's products website. There also seem to be good molds available to buy. Keep us posted. I will try to do this too, one way or another, the first week or second week of December and try to let you...
  13. Thanks so much! I have to say I was a bit passive-aggressive on facebook today (I know she's on it constantly...). Here is my post: I've been asked lots of Celiac questions recently and my actions to protect myself and my family have been called in to question as well. I am lucky enough to have the excellent care of Dr. Gregory Harmon and Nancee Jaffe...
  14. Hi everyone, Just a quick note to say that I appreciate you all very much. I had a rough night out at a great restaurant--the food and service were perfect, but one of my girlfriends questioned whether or not Celiac is an actual disease...oh boy! I'm thinking of all of you--each one of us has far too many similar stories to this. Someday Celiac will...
  15. I'm thinking of you!
  16. We too were shocked at how much candy was gluten free. We did a "Candy for Claire's" trade. I let the girls keep 10 pieces of candy, I took the rest to the foodbank, and then took the girls to Claires...
  17. I agree 100% with Cara from Boston. I too have a daughter whose primary symptom was behavior. She was irritable, clingy, moody, etc. She was all of these things because of gluten. We would not have figured this out if I had not tested her sister for Celiac...turns out that both girls and I have Celiac. My biggest piece of advice is: trust yourself...
  18. All the ideas here are amazing! I would add that it sounds like this teacher/school might need more education on Celiac and cross-contamination. Now is probably not the optimal time...but likely before she decides to do Christmas cookies with all the kids! I know how exhausting this is! I signed my kids up for a Science camp this year and found out...
  19. Hi there, I'm so sorry to hear she's having a tough time. Her behavior is very similar to one of my twins (both have Celiac...but very different responses to the disease...). My girls are about to turn 6 (we homeschool, so I see just about everything they consume/do!). I'm seriously considering taking our twin who has little impulse control when she...
  20. I also had numerous frustrating conversations with scheduling there. In fact, I still have very frustrating conversations with scheduling there. She sees patients on Thursdays. Keep calling. Be persistant. The schedulers are inconsistent, I promise you that!!!!!! My guess is that you will get your wish if you keep calling...that was my experience! ...
  21. sounds to me like you and your doctor are good matches and are doing a great job taking care of your son! Thinking of you! Keep us posted!
  22. Hi there, I will add another layer: lectins. We have a wonderful little girl who is about to turn 6 who had itching (no rashes) and joint/muscle pain 2-3 times a week. Eventually she was diagnosed Celiac. We took her off gluten and her itching/joint/muscle pain went from 8-12 times a month to about once a month. I mentioned this to my cardiologist...
  23. Hi there, Beyond Play Doh, which art supplies have gluten? What do you avoid? How do you figure out which art supplies are ok? Thanks in advance!
  24. cute! Our dog is an omnivore--but just like my husband, limited to a gluten-free diet at home
  25. Thanks for all the great tips! Anyone have an "inventory list" of what they aim to have in their freezers? Here's what's in my freezer so far (in case it's helpful for others (note that 3 out of 4 of us are diagnosed Celiac, so our house and freezer are 100% gluten free so all items are gluten-free): - 2 loaves of UDI's bread - 1 package of Kinni...
