Hello Greenville, Sc Celiacs!
laurelfla commented on Michael Matherly's blog entry in Greenville, SC Gluten-Free Blog
I was in Greenville last week and the server at Lemongrass (Thai restaurant) identified gluten free dishes on their menu. She mentioned having some ladies who eat lunch there that must also follow the diet. My massaman curry was awesome! At Pomegranate on Main the server also identified gluten free dishes on the menu. I had roasted salmon and rice (to... -

Just bumping this up to remind everyone of our cookie exchange on Saturday! See previous post for details. Hope you can make it!! -
Ooh, how do you think that would get Izzy off the show? I can't believe she can still see Denny. I thought, "Oh, she can see him" at first, kind of neat. Now it is just gross! They need to drop that. And yes, I too, was happy to see Dr. Hahn hightail it out of there! She made me grouchy.

ARCHIVED Best Dog Breeds For Kids?
laurelfla replied to JennyC's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Congratulations! There is nothing like a puppy! Our dog Petunia (the chihuahua) is about 7 months now and the picture-taking has finally slowed down. My husband made fun of me because I must have had several hundred of her younger days. She's just so darn cute. Thanks for the training info, tarnalberry, very good for reinforcing what we've been working... -
Anyone still watching?? How about all this Callie stuff? I have no problem with that kind of storyline, but it feels so forced! And I don't like Sadie at all so far. Not sure why she's there. Unless it's for Callie... I was so glad when Yang told Meredith off for making it personal. She was so right!! What do you guys think?

ARCHIVED Best Dog Breeds For Kids?
laurelfla replied to JennyC's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have a precious Chihuahua (which is a breed I would NOT recommend for a child, obviously, for size reasons) but I just wanted to chime in since I have learned a lot since getting her. Every dog needs exercise. Play does not count, no matter how much space the dog has, but rather walking or running or engaging in some kind of activity where the dog follows... -

Anybody Have The Skin Disease Granuloma Annulare?
laurelfla replied to Cottage-Soul's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just wanted to throw my two cents in. My husband has this and all his life he thought they were bites. He was just diagnosed a few months ago. He, too, got the topical cream which has helped a lot, because his are supremely itchy. They are on his thighs, calves, feet and knuckles when he has them. I am the Celiac so he is about 85% gluten-free since everything... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Persist Even After A Gluten-free Diet
laurelfla replied to Waldz1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First, I want to say that I am sorry you are going through this, it must be very stressful! Second, I would say definitely keep a food diary. Write down everything you ingest and all bathroom activity. Some kind of pattern might emerge. My stomach acts up when I am nervous or stressed... maybe that might be a factor? I don't know, just wanted to offer... -

ARCHIVED Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies
laurelfla replied to RissaRoo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for this great recipe! I made the cookies yesterday and my husband and I couldn't stay out of them!!! The apartment smelled so good afterward. I haven't frozen any yet but I feel like they would do fine. One thing, and it's not a bad thing, just an interesting thing I wasn't expecting : We ate them straight out of the oven (Mmmmmm...); after a couple... -

ARCHIVED Making Pudding "dirt Cups" & Need Ideas
laurelfla replied to Esther Sparhawk's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oooh, yeah, I vote for Pamela's, if you can find them, because those cookies are RIDICULOUS! I can't stay out of them when they're around. I haven't seen them around here lately, but I have seen the same flavor in mini-cookies that would work well if you can find them. If not, you could crumble up some brownie, which would look dirt-like and also not have... -

Hello again! Well, we are on schedule for our next meeting, Sat, Sept 13 from 2-4pm at the same place at the Baptist Hospital downtown (8th floor, Doctors Dining Room). I am awaiting a final confirmation from the hospital, but there should be no problem. We'd love to see you! Since we've only had a couple of meetings, there still is not really any sort... -
ARCHIVED Surreptitious gluten-free Dining
laurelfla replied to Voix's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, there! I pretty much only go to places with gluten free menus, if I can help it. When the topic comes up i just explain briefly what I have to avoid. If the other person downplays it, or says that they know of someone with a similar allergy, I just say that it goes way beyond an allergy and that if I did not follow the diet, in the short run, I would... -
ARCHIVED About Those Rice Chex...
laurelfla replied to Beth in NC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I LOVE Rice Chex! I'm so thrilled to have a gluten-free cereal I can actually find without making a special trip to the health food store that isn't all sugary, like Fruity/Cocoa Pebbles, which I also enjoy on occasion. And, it is great for when you travel, and your relatives or friends want to know what to stock for you to eat. Plus, it gets the word out... -

Just a final reminder about our meeting tomorrow! Hope you can make it, 2pm at the Baptist Hospital. -
No, they say "gluten free", although I have seen some that say grain free. I thought to post about it because my sister called and mentioned her father-in-law insisted that she and her husband try the dog food they were using because the bag said gluten free, yet it contained barley. One good thing about having a chihuahua is the cost of the food! I...

I'm glad this topic came back up because i just got a puppy and it has been a handwashing marathon for me around here! My cat used to be gluten-free, but then he had to go on a diet and the diet food was not gluten-free. He lost weight, though, and I didn't feel any effects. Now we have Petunia and she is eating Solid Gold puppy food. I couldn't find any...

Hello again! Yes, I park in the parking garage. Last time there was plenty of space. And I am planning on bringing something to snack on, although I don't know exactly what yet... Pamela's Products sent me some samples for our group, so I will have to see what is in the box. Don't feel like you have to bring anything... it's totally optional, just... -

Hi Kay777! We did indeed have a lovely meeting. We're meeting up again next Saturday, same bat time, same bat channel! Sat. Aug 9 2-4pm Baptist Medical Center downtown 8th floor Dining Room Sure hope you can make it. Let me know if you have any questions! -
I just wanted to add in that YES, I get a big thrill from licking brownie batter! And if you can find Gluten Free Pantry Truffle Brownies (they've become scarce around here), I think that they are slightly better than Pamela's, although I am a die-hard Pamela fan. Gutbomb, your symptoms sound very Celiac-ish... if you can get the blood test done, definitely...

Have you all read "Eat Pray Love"? I thoroughly enjoyed it back in the spring and think I might read it again soon.
