  1. Thank you so much! I wound up doing breakfast with my friend at the Hilton - had a nice omelette. I will definitely have to try those other places next time we are up. In Hattiesburg - another success: Brownstone's, downtown on Front St. They checked and rechecked everything about my dinner! The waiter and manager were incredibly accomodating. I had grilled...
  2. Thanks so much, Piccolo - we wound up not going but hopefully in the future I'll get to!!
  3. Hi, there! I am headed to Jackson tomorrow -- any recommendations for lunch?? I'm glad to give you some ideas for the 'Burg! I have not been to Wintzell's -- do they do gluten-free? I don't think there is a support group, best I can tell there are a few Celiacs around but nothing organized. I'd definitely be interested if there were.
  4. Hi! Has anyone been here recently? I am thinking of going in about a week and a half. All the info I can find is from 2009. Also, just to make sure, this location is at 655 Crossville Rd. Roswell, GA 30075 right? Thanks!
  5. I was in Florida but have moved. There is a great support group in Orlando! Look them up and try to go to a meeting, if you can.
  6. Just thought I would contribute a few restaurants for eating out in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for anyone that might need it. The only chain I am aware of actually offering a gluten free menu at the place is Outback Steakhouse, just off I-59. In the downtown area, I have had great success at 206 Front, a wonderful local restaurant with a chef who must be...
  7. Hi! Just wanted to bump this up, in case anyone has found out anything. I'm in Hattiesburg, by the way.
  8. Hello! I have just returned from a trip to Puerto Rico and wanted to post about the AWESOME food I had there! I will list the names of the places I visited (mouse over the names for links to webpages), as well as what I ate, but I want to make a disclaimer first, and that is that I talked to the waitstaff in each place, and none of them really knew what...
  9. I feel your pain! And I am glad you posted. We have all had our long posts on here at some point, I believe! This is such a great place to get support. Everything mushroom said, I agree with. And I'd like to highlight, not everyone feels bad or continues to feel bad when eating gluten. Each person's body is different and the ways yours seems to respond...
  10. I can't help with those particular brands, just thought I'd chime in. Usually it's necessary to try to track down the manufacturer and ask. It's a little frustrating, but I've found the best strategy (at least for me) is to memorize a few brand names I know I can have and then stick to those. It gets expensive, but I think it's better than taking chances...
  11. Or an unfortunate side effect of the Pill, if you're on that.
  12. hi

I was just looking for more gluten-free people in Gainesville, FL and found that you were interested in getting a group together on a forum.

  13. If anyone can shed some light on this I would so appreciate it - my uncle has the same situation. Now he has been on the diet three weeks, with no changes. He also has scleroderma and has been through chemo, so there are clearly other health issues, but his doctor has been so unhelpful that I would really appreciate it if anyone could chime in about the immunoglobulin...
  14. Just for the record, I called about Tri-Lo-Sprintec, which is a generic for Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo that has recently become available. The company said it is gluten free. Here is their information: Teva Pharmaceuticals USA Administrative Offices Phone: 215.591.3000 Toll free: 888 TEVA USA (838-2872)
  15. But you guys are missing the point! American made a "business decision" to discriminate! Yes, the gluten-free meals on flights are unfortunately notoriously unreliable, but refusing to provide one in the first place, when it's requested so far in advance and obviously not impossible to obtain?? I think that is ridiculous!
  16. I also had only morning stomach problems before diagnosis. It doesn't necessarily have to happen right after you eat the offending food.
  17. This sounds amazing! Thanks for sharing!
  18. Just received the following and thought I'd share: Thank you for contacting Stirrings! Regarding your inquiry, our lines of Cocktail Mixers, Bar Ingredients, and Cocktail Soda products are gluten-free. No allergens (wheat, milk, egg, soy, fish, shellfish, peanuts, or tree nuts) are processed or stored in the production facility where these products...
  19. I recently had a hankering for flavored coffee and bought Brothers hazelnut flavor. I couldn't find any information on the web, so I emailed the company (Procter & Gamble, I think it is a recent acquisition?) and received the following: May 4, 2009 Dear Consumer, Thank you for contacting Brothers Coffee regarding gluten content. At this time...
  20. Just got off the phone with the company and Cucumber White teabags are gluten-free. I couldn't find it on their website, so I called. Just thought I'd throw that in!
  21. I think all the other posters have great ideas. For me, it was an emotional issue (I'm the one with Celiac, my husband doesn't have any food intolerances). I constantly felt left out, excluded, worried about food, tired of being worried about food, etc., etc., etc. outside the house. My kitchen has always been the one place where I knew I could eat anything...
  22. Hi! I'll be moving to the area soon... any luck with the group?
  23. Dear all, I apologize to those who posted in December -- I didn't see the posts until now. I just wanted to let those of you in the area know that I am no longer organizing meetings in the Jacksonville area. I enjoyed doing that during the summer and fall, and we had a good time at the Holiday Cookie Exchange. However, there wasn't quite enough interest...
  24. The usual: Outback Steakhouse Carrabba's Bonefish Grill All located about within a mile of each other near Archer Rd and 34th St O!O Tapas and Tinis Near Haile Plantation area As of Sept. 2008, the manager was also on a gluten-free diet and so could direct me to options on menu. Kitchen was familiar with gluten free. La Tienda SW 13th St....
  25. Hi! Just wanted to chime in with my experience just after Christmas in SF. We had wonderful meals at Zadin's (mentioned above, with gluten-free menu); Open Original Shared Link down in the Fisherman's Wharf area (I had contacted the kitchen and they told me just to let my server know; they were great about checking everything out); Bistro Burger on Drumm...
