ARCHIVED Unsure Of How To Proceed--please Help!
happygirl replied to AliceW's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Alice, Well, you knew at least I would respond I was thinking about you yesterday and wondered how your app't went. I think getting the blood results will help you decide what to do. Just remember, if you ever want an endoscopy later, you'll have to eat a ton of gluten for a long time. So for some, its easier to do it now and get it over with... -

ARCHIVED What To Do When Everyone Is Ignorant/inconsiderate?
happygirl replied to Drama-Queen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
peanuts were always a good 'filler' for me if you are aren't allergic (I can't tolerate them now) any and all fruits, veggies, etc in little bags I know its not healthy...but I used to bring candy along all the time. Snickers, etc. fritos, tort chips, gluten free crackers, etc. surprisingly, there are lots of choices! like carla said, its more... -
Great, Patti! I haven't seen her new show and don't know much about it. You'll have to let me know!

Just saw an ad for Rachel Ray's new show, and apparently, tomorrow she is doing cooking for people with food allergies. Don't know if it'll address gluten, but there is probably a good chance. The link to tomorrow's show is: Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Did Mcdonalds Lie About Fries?
happygirl replied to pjrieff's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
This is a difficult topic (and this is coming from someone who used to get sick after eating the fries), because there are many pieces to the puzzle. It is an individual decision. Some board members choose to eat there, some do not. Some get sick, some do not. This is from the GIG: (bolding added by myself) GIG issues a position statement about food... -

ARCHIVED Need Help For Friend
happygirl posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She has a 1.5 year who has had horrible eczema. I suggested allergy/intolerance testing. He showed up positive for wheat, corn, soy, and yeast. She thinks she is going to do gluten free also, just because of what she knows of my history. (he is ok with dairy though). Can some of you parents with kids of multiple intolerances help me out with things... -
ARCHIVED Blood Tests Still Coming Back Positive--help!
happygirl replied to jmengert's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
if you really want to be thorough, tell us some name brands/products you use regularly. Meds, things like that. I know you KNOW your stuff! However, you never know...we all (including myself, and every single person on this board) have made mistakes. You know we all want to help What about cat/dog food. The other thing I have heard is that... -
ARCHIVED Tests For Food Allergies/intolerances?
happygirl replied to eleep's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
eleep-Optimum Health *used to be York Labs* has a 96 food panel. They seem to be highly respected and I've heard good things about them. Hope it helps---I understand your frustration! -
Robbin, Thanks! I figured there had to be some novas up there! Yeah, we are not looking forward to the traffic!! Traffic in Virginia Beach sucks as well, but I know its nothing like up there. We lived there in 82-84 and then 88-92. My dad was in Northern VA for the past five years as well, so we've been up there a lot. Its overwhelming, but it really...

ARCHIVED Hi Guys, Newly Diagnosed And A Few Questions
happygirl replied to Kody's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Cody- You wrote: LauraJ - Will I have any lasting problems at the age of 18? I've felt the way I do now, pretty much my whole life and I've only been on this new diet for two days now. Feel better already, strangely enough. Mainly just more energy is all, so far. Unfortunately, there is no way to know. Honestly, many Celiacs go on to live a normal life... -
Do I become an "ish ish" since I am two decades off? I too am watching DH. (A DH that we actually like, not the DH-celiac disease!!!!!!)

ARCHIVED Can I Cope? Venting...
happygirl replied to imsohungry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks, Patti. Working on it....xoxo Julie, Do you have Dr. Green's book on Celiac. I have it, but I lent it to my Mom. It is so comprehensive and I swear he talks about seizures in there. Check that out---or maybe someone who has their hands on it can look it up! -
ARCHIVED Can I Cope? Venting...
happygirl replied to imsohungry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ok, Julie, I don't know why this didn't occur to me. But awhile ago, on Discovery Health channel (I think!), there was an episode of a show that dealt with Celiac and seizures. It was called Medical Mysteries or something like that. There were discussions on this forum about it. It was a little boy who had these weird seizures, I think. They didn't know... -
Ursula-Thanks for the encouragement! I'll be sure to keep you guys updated. Its nice to have a job that is more career focused, and will be using my hard-earned M.S. After all the craziness (and still ongoing craziness) with my health, it is nice when *good* things happen. Reminds me that not everything in life has to be so difficult. Its one of those...

ARCHIVED Hi Guys, Newly Diagnosed And A Few Questions
happygirl replied to Kody's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In terms of kissing-if my husband eats gluten free (most of our meals at home are), then we are "safe." If he has eaten any gluten or drank beer, etc., he knows to only give me a peck on my cheek. He runs and brushes his teeth real fast though As long as you are conscientious about it, it becomes habit. Strange, but keeps me safe! Agree with Carla... -
Yep, lots of DC people live in Fredericksburg but its quite the commute. But it is a great area! Luckily my job is near Ft. Belvoir and we'll live in Fairfax. Still, traffic is a nightmare in general up there. My dad just retired from the Navy after 38 years this summer (that is where my avatar picture was taken) and my brother is in the Navy now also...
