ARCHIVED Sick For How Long?
happygirl replied to -product-'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Response times vary....mine come very sudddenly (within the meal, usually, and develop over the next few hours)....others take a few hours...others come a day or so later. Hope you are feeling better! Dr. Fassano (a leading researcher at the U of Maryland, Baltimore) says that you should have tested: There is a particular series of blood tests... -
ARCHIVED Why Cosmetics Need To Be Gluten Free
happygirl replied to clbevilacqua's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
To add to the points already made, I think of the often-used analogy of rat poison. Would anyone feel comfortable washing their hair, slathering lotion over their entire bodies, and using other products made of rat poison? Would you be 100% certain that it wouldn't get into your system and kill you? But, that's just the rationale I use when I think... -
Just a note about CaliFineFoods. I ordered from them right before I realized I was corn intolerant. I wrote her asking about the fructose listed in the ingredients. She was extremely helpful and I have corresponded with her multiple times. However, fructose IS corn derived. In Canada, her products are listed as corn free, in America, they are not. ...

ARCHIVED Unsure Of How To Proceed--please Help!
happygirl replied to AliceW's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Alice, Celiac is an autoimmune disorder (not an allergy!). One theory behind auto-immune disorders is that they are "triggered" by something in the environment. Things such as a severe bacterial or viral infection, pregnancy, trauma, severe stress, etc. (This applies to all autoimmune disorders, like MS, lupus, etc.). Now, it doesn't explain why... -
susan, as a wine lover (and so sad that I might not be able to tolerate alcohol...my body is revolting against me at this point), I REALLY appreciate your post! I'll keep those in mind! Thanks for sharing. Hope that the vegan wine list helps ... Laura

Thanks, Steve. Just found some interesting links about wine and casein/eggs: Open Original Shared Link Also, a link from the wikipedia took me to a site about vegan wine (no animal by products, so by default, would have no eggs or casein...yay) Open Original Shared Link SPLENDID!

ARCHIVED Lipton Cup-a-soups
happygirl replied to BabySnooks's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can't eat it anymore due to other food issues, but I remember that the Lipton cup of soup/chicken was gluten free. I used to make casseroles with it (used less liquid to make it creamier). I enjoyed it! If you want, list the ingredients for us-we can help out. -
ARCHIVED How Long To Get Celiac Blood Panel Results?
happygirl replied to lawstudent's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Most blood tests take about two weeks; depends on which lab they sent it out to. I would call in the morning once you have hit the two week mark, ask about your results. Often you will just leave a message so then hopefully they'll have time that day to still call you back. Make sure that you copy them down and make SURE to get the reference range! Let... -

happygirl replied to happygirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Like I mentioned, I didn't get to try them---but I was so sad! I was really impressed with her knowledge of her ingredients and her willingness to help. As a mother to a Celiac son, she really understands! Based on my contact with her...I think she is worth supporting! I'd be interested to hear how they are....hope yall enjoy! -
ARCHIVED Bad Stomach For Almost 2 Days....need Reassurance
happygirl replied to Stacie H.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Stacie, I'm sorry that your husband is ill! I hope he recovers quickly. I would be highly suspicious of the chicken. I would say the vast majority of rotisserie chickens have wheat in some form. Plus, the risk of cross contamination (with other flavors that might not be safe) is very high. Laura -
I love that magazine....ordered a subscription for my mom, even! It is great!

ARCHIVED How Does Everybody Afford This Diet
happygirl replied to hfcny's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
A lot of the applegate farms lunch meats and other products are gluten free. I think I used to buy the Oscar Meyer shaved deli slices (that come in a little plastic container). I eat them in lettuce wraps, or (if you can tolerate dairy), put cheese in the middle and do a 'roll-up' with the meat and cheese...or a rollup with meat and cream cheese. try... -
from what I know, it is not corporate policy...there are many chili's that do not know about ingredients or provide the list. It may be that some have just taken the initiative themselves!

ARCHIVED I Think I Was Glutened
happygirl replied to txnmaryann's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you have only been gluten free for a few weeks, you are probably still healing. Which means your body is still damaged and not working "normally" yet, even though you are gluten-free. I noticed after I went gluten-free that I would react to strange things....but after I was truly 100% gluten-free and my body had healed, I was ok. So it *might* not be... -
ARCHIVED Unsure Of How To Proceed--please Help!
happygirl replied to AliceW's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Alice, Welcome to the board! Patti answered your questions very well. I would like to add that there are many celiacs/gluten intolerant people on this board that believe that for them, mono (age 22) triggered their Celiac. I am one of them! I highly recommend a book written by Dr. Green, a leading Celiac researcher and physician at Columbia... -
ARCHIVED Anything You Can Order Where You Don't Have To Talk To Chef?
happygirl replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
This is going to come across as blunt, and I'm sorry. The fact that ordering a meal with gluten free ingredients means next to nothing if you do not ensure that cross contamination is minimized. If you aren't willing to speak up, then you honestly have no one to blame when (if) you get sick. How are they to know they should be careful if you don't tell... -

Natlay, Wine inherently does not have casein in it. However, many wineries use casein in the processing. Many also use eggs. (I learned this recently as I am both casein and egg intolerant). I'm not drinking at all at this point because 1. I haven't had the time to research wines that are safe. 2. I don't know if even "safe" wines are safe for me bc...

ARCHIVED Enterolab Results Are In!
happygirl replied to mythreesuns's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Toni, That is really a personal decision. I wish I had a better answer. My first thought is, even if you aren't having a reaction, you technically don't know what is happening to your body. On the other hand, there are other approaches: Take out ALL soy, eggs, casein, gluten (and any other known allergens). Yes, even the little tiny ones. See how... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results Are In!
