  2. In regards to Celiac - Your doctor ran : total IgA - and you are not IgA deficient (based on bloodwork) tTG IgA: negative tTG IgG: negative EMA IgA: negative Those are the most sensitive tests for Celiac. Coupled with the negative biopsies, it does not appear that you have Celiac. What symptoms are you having, and what feedback/next steps has...

    ARCHIVED Having My Children Tested

Those words from your doctor is the thinking that has lead to an average of 4-11 years for Celiacs to get diagnosed. And, my hunch is that those 'without' symptoms take that or longer. One of the best ways to find the asymptomatic Celiacs is through their Celiac relatives. I'd find a doctor who knows something about Celiac, since this one obviously...
  5. Cupoftea - the "u" in flavor/flavour clued me in. It may take a few hours or a day or so, but I'm sure someone will be by to help. Welcome to the board - we have many Canadians as members.

    ARCHIVED Having My Children Tested

How old are your boys, what was his reasoning for the 'no', and how were you diagnosed? I'm sure you'll find many posts here that lend support to the recommendation by Celiac experts to test all first degree relatives of those with confirmed Celiac. 9. Heat - more than 3 million have Celiac. 97% are undiagnosed/don't know they have Celiac. Celiac is much more common than many of the diseases Americans know about. For some statistics, see: https://www.celiac.com/articles/1164/1/Celi...tics/Page1.html Luckily, it is garnering much more attention, both in the medical community and the popular press....
  10. For children, it can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months to recover. It can take longer, but often that is in adults who have had undiagnosed Celiac for a long time. The villi damage will need to heal, and her body will need to start properly absorbing nutrients again, as well. Its a slow but steady process, with bumps along the...
  11. Heat, Welcome to the board. I'm sorry to hear your daughter has Celiac but I'm happy she has been properly diagnosed. How long has she been gluten free? It can take awhile for the body to properly heal after taking gluten out of her diet. There isn't a cure for the symptoms that come along with Celiac, other than the gluten free diet/healing the Celiac...
  12. By definition, Celiac Disease causes damage to the villi of the small intestine, which is how Celiac is diagnosed (the presence of blunting and other characteristics of the villi, which are correlated to the bloodwork). When I discussed fully healing, that is what I was referring to. It may be beneficial to get copies of your records from your previous...
  13. Hi Joe - Welcome to the board. I'm sorry that you are still having problems. How were you diagnosed with Celiac (via bloodwork or biopsy, or both)? Have you returned to your doctor for follow up testing, to confirm if your Celiac blood panel is returning to normal? If it isn't, it may be indicating that you aren't healing quickly, or that you are still...
  14. Not dumb questions at all! This should help explain the gene testing and how genes are related to Celiac. Open Original Shared Link Celiac physicians recommend that all first degree relatives of those with confirmed Celiac should be tested for Celiac, regardless of presence of symptoms.
