  1. I think being called a hypochondriac should be a sign of celiac disease. The people around here who did NOT have their symptoms dismissed at one time are definitely in the minority. I'm afraid that I don't know about getting the biopsy slides checked by others. My guess is that it would not be worth it because the slides probably show little (Marsh...
  2. The intestines probably wouldn't heal that fast, instead the doctors probably missed the damage. The small intestine has the surface area of a tennis court, and they only biopsy a tiny portion of that. That's why at least 6 biopsy samples is important. The more samples taken, the more likely they will biopsy the damaged parts - celiac disease damage is...
  3. That's great! I hope they stay negative forever, chances are good that they will. Is your Gastro appointment coming up soon? You could probably switch to gluten-light if it will be a while. A 1/2 slice of bread per day will probably be enough to keep your autoimmune reaction humming along without making you feel even worse. If the gastro appointment...
  4. The endoscopy can miss up to 20% of celiacs, and you are more likely to be one of that minority of the doctor takes fewer than 6 samples, skips the duodenal bulb, or the patient does not eat adequate gluten (1-2 slices of bread per day) in the 2 to 4 weeks prior to the procedure. Most celiacs are negative in at least one test, whether it is serum or the...
  5. LOL Did I ever misunderstand that!

    ARCHIVED Day 7

I could be a bit of withdrawal. For me, it wasn't so much that I craved gluten, it was just that I felt bad. LOL Withdrawal often includes fatigue, headaches, weakness, and a really bad mood. The fatigue will probably pass within a week. I'm glad some of your symptoms are starting to resolve already! That's really good. Symptoms may make a short...
  7. I'm back in mild ketosis. BG this am is 4.6. My appetite is falling again. That cheat made this headache last longer. I'm also in an AI attack (I have other AI diseases). It started about a week ago when I first started eating keto. I have the tell tale sore sinuses/mouth/throat that sometimes turns into mouth sores, fatigue, chills, and that...
  8. If you have been gluten-free for that long, I would doubt that celiac disease is the main cause. Sometimes celiac disease will give symptoms that cannot be fixed and then it will get worse as time goes by. It is not that celiac disease is affecting it now, but time is making something worse... That is the only way I could see it linked to celiac disease...
  9. When my husband drinks beer, I won't kiss him until he brushed his teeth and rinsed his mouth out. Even then, I wait a while otherwise it just FEELS risky... waiting is probably overkill.
  10. I hope you have a fast and smooth recovery! Feel free to post as you get started gluten-free.
  11. You are most likely a celiac then. The DGP IgA is pretty specific to celiac disease; around 95% of people with a positive test have celiac disease. The fact that you were eating gluten-light and made a positive result - that's pretty meaningful. I would try to drag your gluten challenge out to at LEAST 6 weeks if possible. If you make it too short...

Exactly! It is thought L-glutamine MAY help with healing AFTER the damage has been done... It's like getting stitches after you've cut yourself badly. It's helpful to have the stiches, but it's best to avoid the whole situation if at all possible.

L-glutamine is thought to help with healing muscle tissue and the muscosal linings of the gut. I used it when I was doing a lot of weight lifting, and it REALLY helped with reducing pain the next day. I took it during the first year or two gluten-free, but I can't say if it helped since I have nothing to compare it to.
  14. If you wash the dishes they should be fine. Be wary of pitted and scratched wooden surfaces or teflon though. For family events, it depends on who is hosting. I was at a wedding where my family and a cousin were gluten-free and ther were able to make us a gluten-free plate before everyone else used the buffet. We didn't get to eat everything but it...
  15. If you have been eating a normal diet up until now, then you probably do not even need to do that. Most people eat the equivalent of 1-2 slices of bread (in the form of noodles, muffins, crackers, gravy, breaded meats, baked desserts) per day. If you have been gluten-free, it is better to eat gluten for 8-12 weeks, with 12 weeks being better. Some tests...
  16. I agree. The best way to get a celiac disease diagnosis is to run as many tests as possible because ALL celiac disease tests can miss celiacs. The biopsy can miss up to 20% of celiacs, and the blood tests can miss up to 1 in 4 to over half (in the old anti-gliadin antibody tests). Get the tTG IgA, tTG IgG, DGP IgA, DGP IgG, EMA IgA, total serum IgA, and...
  17. Welcome to the board. I had slightly low cortisol, which is more common - I think. I thought low cortisol was a sign of adrenal fatigue with not enough cortisol being made Is your thyroid balanced? I believe hyperthyroidism can raise cortisol levels. Has the doctor checked you for Cushings? Autoimmune diseases, like celiac disease and thyroiditis...
  18. Symptoms in a toddler may include changes stools (D or C), slowed growth and development, weight loss or slowing, fatigue and affected sleep, crankiness, stomach upset, rashes, headaches.... symptoms will mostly come back to a bad mood since they won't be able to say what is wrong. Expect more tears if symptoms present themselves. Symptoms can present...
  19. Ingredients are listed on the side of all cartons. Dairy (milk) and sugar are safe for celiacs, although some celiacs are milk sugar (lactose) intolerant.
  20. I'm sorry you are going through this. It sounds as though he isn't being too willing to put himself in your shoes. Would he consider trying more things rather than just going out to eat for dates? Go play a sport, go for a walk, a movie, or just go for coffee? That's a good compromise. If you do want to go out to eat, you'll need to research more...
  21. So true....A snarky, small part of me wants to argue that up here(Alberta) , it's not either winter or summer. We've had snow in July and wore shorts at the '88 Olympics in Februrary. LOL But I know what you are saying. I'm either in ketosis or not. Thanks.
  22. Our house is low grain too, with the occassional treats. The main grains in our house is brown and wild rice, which we eat about twice a week. Their next grain source is Udi's bread; I allow them only one slice of bread at lunch otherwise they would eat half of a loaf. I would rather they fill up on nuts or yogurt instead. My middle son gets into the...
  23. The loose stools may be hormone related but that doesn't mean it isn't celiac disease linked either. Right before menstration, the body clears out the large intestine - it does the same thing in early labor. Before I was diagnosed I looked forward to that because it was the only time I felt cleared out; I had chronic constipation so that time of the...
  24. Thanks. I am noticing I am thirstier but I wasn't sure if it was just because it is so hot. My body isn't used to 30C yet - I almost think I can handle -30C better. LOL I will make more of an effort to drink more. I will drink 1-2 glasses (cups) of water every hour that I am awake. I haven't noticed the jiggling legs but I am a bit more scattered...
