  1. I don't think pain is normal. Does he mean that kids supposedly feel more pain than adults and that is normal? Uh-huh.... I remember being told by my doctor, at about age 8, that I was just one of those people who got a stomach ache after they ate so I should drink milk with every meal. No helpful advice for a celiac with lactose intolerance. I...
  2. Worrying about the change is harder than doing it - I think. Going gluten-free isn't a huge lifestyle change unless you eat out a lot. That's where it changes for most people. It is difficult to get used to cooking most nights, or making extra so you can have leftovers, than it is to get used to eating a bit less bread or baked goods... There are gluten...
  3. Thank you, Adasmama. I checked it this morning, just out of curiosity, to see if it was a fluke and it was not. I am in deep ketosis - somewhere between the darkest purple and the next darkest purple. I was pretty surprised. Blood glucose was 4.4. Headache is gone. I'm a bit tired but I think I'm fighting off a summer cold that my youngest...
  4. I checked my ketostix last night and it said I was in moderate ketosis already. Huh. That surprised me. I thought it would take longer . I guess I am eating low enough carbs, or my calories are low enough that I am in a mild starvation/fasting mode. I doubt that's it though since I am eating a fair bit, albeit less than normal. This is a typical...
  5. I agree. With 4/4 tests positive, there can be no doubt that you have celiac disease. Some doctors always want to do the scope as a standard part of their diagnosis, but I would discuss it with the doctor why that would be needed. I actually skipped my scope because I had very positive tTG IgA and EMA IgA. The EMA IgA (endomysial antibodies) is 9...
  6. I do something similar, I add a bunch full fat coconut cream. Before trying to get into ketosis I added just a tablespoon of it. Now I add quarter of a can and consider it as part of breakfast, along with bacon and/or eggs and some fried greens (with a bunch of fat. Yum.
  7. Hmm, oats. I never thought of that. Thank you!
  8. Probably. You probably have some intestinal damage to your villi which is usually caused by celiac disease. The biopsy damage is rated on a Marsh scale where 3 is definitely celiac disease and 2 may be celiac disease. A 1 shows some abnormalities but they won't call that celiac disease (yet) . If they ordered blood tests after seeing your biopsy results...
  9. I actually went and bought some this morning. Thanks. I'm quite curious if I am close to ketosis. I have a glucose monitor and it is sitting at about four and a half after a LCHF meal so My blood is happy anyways. Thanks!
  10. That is quite a success story! There is no disputing that you have found something that works amazingly well for you. I'm hoping it will work for me too. I've heard some doctors worry about kidney function while in ketosis but it sounds like that is just a worry for people with kidney problems. I discounted that worry along with doctor advice that...
  11. I do. I list it under food allergies and in the medical issues area on paper work. I usually write : Has Celiac disease - cannot eat gluten (wheat, barley, rye, etc) - please do not give him food.
  12. It could also just be a virus being aggravated by the glutening - it's going through my house.
  13. Oh wow... Okaaaay. We need a head shaking emoticon.
  14. That sounds pretty good to me, but I am not the most knowledgeable person around here about this. I did see this and it seems to support your doctor's approach: Open Original Shared Link More biopsies taken increase the likelihood of catching the disease, but not many doctors will do more than 6. I think 8 is the high end of what we usually hear...
  15. ((HUGS)) I'm really sorry Barty. It sounds like Grommit was quite a sweetie.
  16. Good luck with the endoscopy. Let me know how the testing goes. It's always helpful to others to see how people's test results are. WOW! That is just amazing. Good on you for figuring that out on your own. Impressive. Have they rechecked your kidneys since going on the keto diet? Perhaps it has changed and there is no longer a need for...
  17. I did not know that. Thanks for sharing it.
  18. As a general rule, symptoms set in within 30 minutes or up to 72 hours later. Symptoms can last a couple of days or a few weeks. Last time I was glutened was Xmas Eve, and I knew I was hit before I left the table. It took 2 or 3 weeks to feel totally well again, but some of those symptoms may just have been mixed up with Christmas fatigue and stress...
  19. LOL Oh no, did someone do that to you once? If not, great example. Yeah, being glutened varies a lot between people, and symptoms can change over time so this may not be the way it always is. I also have a theory that getting glutened symptoms become more obvious as we start to recover. When you aren't sick all the time it is easier to notice...
  20. Ditto. There's no proof yet, but I believe that celiac disease may just be an intestinal manifestation of autoimmune based gluten sensitivity. That's just my theory though.
  21. Just remember, if the biopsy is negative, it does not mean that she does not have celiac disease. It just means they didn't find the damage.
  22. Oh good. It included the DGP IgG and tTG IgG? Those are usually the best for detecting celiac disease in those with low IgA, although the tTG IgG can miss quite a few celiacs. Thanks. I put Keto Clarity and Big Fat Surprise on hold at my library. Aww, that first week or two... That's my problem time for sure. LOL By early July, eh? I...
  23. Joint pain can be related to celiac disease but it really is hard to pin point the cause in children. Sometimes it is growing pains, sometimes it is an injury, and sometimes it is gluten. Since you were pretty sure she was glutened, just remember the possibility of joint pain for future reference (since there is nothing you can do for it if it is caused...
  24. LOL I understand. I felt the same way at first too. I think I'm finally over that. If you are at all like me, you just have 2 years to go before you are over that. LOL I would say to smuggle away for your shower. That's your day and you are bringing them plenty of revenue. Order a drink and do what you want.
