I was much crankier on gluten...well, I was crankiest when I went through a gluten withdrawal of sorts, but I found it helpful to think about the fact that I knew what was causing the bad mood so i didn't "share" it with others. I know I was quieter than normal, and I would often turn a particularly grumpy moment into a laugh by growling my displeasure. ...

ARCHIVED Stuck In The Country With A 'strong Positive' Blood Test
nvsmom replied to rosstqz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh! I have a good recipe that is surprisingly similar to KFC that my boys love as chicken nuggets: ~1.5 c tapioca flour ~0.5c brown rice flour or an allpurpose gluten-free flour ~0.5tsp baking powder ~1 tsp pepper ~3 tsp salt (or seasoning salt) ~0.5tsp paprika I add some garlic and a bit more pepper. Measurements are all approximate. Dredge your... -

ARCHIVED Finally Got Into Rheumatology Triage
nvsmom replied to nvsmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have no real idea where the rheumy will want to go with me. I am glad I am in the door though, just in case this moves beyond pain, rages and fatigue. I don't need much for management of that but I want to be monitored in case this starts to affect organs. My hands are only partly wonky these last fifteen years or so. They don't look different, well... -
I know this is waaaaay off topic from celiac, but I am excited because after waiting seven months, I got squeezed in to see the rheumatology triage because of a last minute cancelation. I have had joint pain, sores and rashes that point to a possible rheumatic disease that I have ignored for too many years after being dismissed by doctors. There is a...

I don't know the science behind it, I just know going gluten-free helped get rid of my migraines. I had them a good two weeks every month with visual auras and such. When I am off gluten I only get them a couple of days a month...soooo much better! I hope you find relief too.

ARCHIVED Need Help With Blood Results
nvsmom replied to .byrdie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your symptoms would certainly point to non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI) - those gluten migraines are killers! Celiac blood tests do not indicate NCGI if they are low. Celiac blood tests are largely in response to the damage being done to the intestines, and NCGI patients do not have dmagae to the intestines (although they appear to have every other horrible... -
ARCHIVED Low Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum?
nvsmom replied to eleanorj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As I understand it, immunoglobulin A levels are tested as a sort of control to ensure that this aspect of your immune function is at adequate levels for accurate ttg IgA, EMA IgA, DGP IgA and AGA IgA (celiac) tests. Your IgA levels are low, as are approximately 5% of all celiacs (higher than regular population). If you are testing for celiac disease, you... -
ARCHIVED Stuck In The Country With A 'strong Positive' Blood Test
nvsmom replied to rosstqz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Neroli, chances are pretty high that it's celiac disease, especially with such a high test result - it is usually with barely positive tTG tests that we see other disorders or infections causing the (slight) positive result. If you are having more testing done, you are correct in that you need to continue eating gluten. If your tests are... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice On 10Yr Dd Results Celiac Mom
nvsmom replied to gfgtj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As shadowicewolf said, you are missing tests. The deaminated gliadin peptide tests are the newest, are very reliable tests for kids, and highly specific to celiac disease. You might want to request those (DGP IgA and DGP IgG). The anti-gliadin antibody test is an older test, but you might want to request that too (AGA IgA and AGA IgG). Her tTG IGG is... -
ARCHIVED The Test Was Negative:(
nvsmom replied to taynichaf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How frustrating for you! I really hope they come up with better tests for NCGI soon... I'm of the opinion that gluten intolerance is a spectrum, and that celiac disease is on the spectrum, it just happens to create intestinal villi damage and the type of celiac blood tests we have are (as I understand it) autoantibodies that respond to intestinal damage.... -

ARCHIVED Heart Burn Versus Chest Pain
nvsmom replied to nvsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I saw the doctor today (for my thyroid issues) and mentioned my chest pain. He agreed that it was costochondritis. He also said there is nothing to do for it, which I knew. I reminded him that I am waiting to hear from rheumatologyfor an appointment but he didn't look concerned...not that he ever does. LOL I KNOW that it could be related to a connective... -
In my first few weeks gluten-free, I went through the withdrawal with seemed to bother my gastro symptoms the least - I was very moody and tired, and the migraine it triggered was one to remember. For me, withdrawal lasted about 2 weeks so hopefully he'll be over the worst soon. If he is getting an endoscopy, he should be eating some gluten until the...

ARCHIVED Blood Results
nvsmom replied to SeekingSarah's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It looks like you have non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI) since you have problems with gluten abut negative tests. As I understand it, and I'm not a medical professional, NCGI can cause inflammation too.... could be something to talk about to the doctor. Best wishes. -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Before Endoscopy?
nvsmom replied to taynichaf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you endoscopy is within a few weeks I would GUESS that you could cut out most gluten and that you would still show damage... but that is just a guess. People heal at such different rates, it is hard to guess how quickly you would start to heal. Some people have autoantibodies that hang around and continue to do damage for months or even years, for others... -

ARCHIVED Ttg Is Back Down- Question About My Story
nvsmom replied to KristinIrwin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It looks like you have celiac disease to me. Your tTG test was almost double the lab's normal high limit - that's a significantly positive test. As Neroli said, your biopsy showed possible early stages of celiac and who knows, perhaps they didn't even biopsy the most damaged parts - the surface area of the small intestine is about the same as a tennis court... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Negative

ARCHIVED Please Help With Blood Work Results
nvsmom replied to nikkintodd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
EMA IgA only appears positive in blood tests after there has been extensive damage to the villi of the intestines - it is often negative in very young children or in people who have very recently developed celiac disease because there has not been enough time for enough damage to occur for a positive test. EMA is very specific to celiac disease. If you... -

Yep.... I'm near the Rockies in western Canada, and at the moment it's about -10C. It snowed over 15cm in the last 48 hours and it's not done... I actually got a sore wrist from digging out the driveway. LOL We only get a little over 90 frost free days a year up here so we've got a while longer until spring is here - we usually have our last (unappreciated...
