Caffiene and alcohol are two of the harshest things on a sensitive gut. If you're trying to heal a leaky gut these will not do you any good at all. I'm thinking I'll do alot better with caffeine and alcohol once I'm healed.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Diet Results
Rachel--24 replied to FairySprinkle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As far as changing appliances and such I would mainly be concerned about the toaster. If you have Celiac a crumb will definately do you harm. The toaster would be a major source of contamination and is very cheap and easy to replace. Also wooden spoons....cheap and easy to replace. As far as pots and pans...I'd just clean them really good....unless they're... -
I cant have caffeine at all. I was never a big coffee drinker....I just enjoyed Starbucks Caramel Macciato's occassionally and drank several sodas a day. Since I got sick three years ago I cant handle caffeine. It really messes me up in alot of ways but nothing GI related. I get very shaky, dizzy, migraines plus it messes up my skin for some reason. I dont...

Well...I just got back from the doctors and I'm pretty excited right now. I tested negative for H. Pylori. The good news is now I can finally (after 2 long weeks) start treatment for C-diff. I start on the antibiotics tomorrow and I've got plenty of probiotics to back me up. I'm anxious to see if getting rid of this thing can get me back to living a...

Horrible Pressure Headaches After Eating
Rachel--24 replied to lemonade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've had this exact symptom for 3 years now. I have intense pressure in my head and its always worse after eating. The veins in my temples and forehead also buldge sometimes. Its also triggered by chemicals of any kind. Its most intense between my eyes, at the temples and also in my jaw. There is swelling as well although its not noticeable to others. Its... -
ARCHIVED More Oat Questions
Rachel--24 replied to chrissy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I got brave and started eating McCanns oatmeal and the first 2 times I got alot of rumbling in my stomach and some abdominal pain. I wasnt too worried cuz I'm never quite right anyway. The third time I ate the oats I had immediate "D"....this kind of alarmed me since I never get diarreah. I'm not someone who had alot of GI symptoms and the "D" is rare. I... -
My thoughts are that for every gluten-free product there is out there...there is also someone who's reacted to it. If we all stopped eating stuff because someone reacted to it....what would we end up with? Meat, fruit, veggies? There are people who get reactions from those foods too. I think with everyone having different intolerances and such there is...

ARCHIVED Gluten And Difficulty Breathing?
Rachel--24 replied to katshow's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you been tested to see if you're allergic to wheat? You could have an an allergy as well as having Celiac. 2 totally different things but it is possible to have both. -
I dont think they're blisters. They're very tiny clear bumps but they dont pop or oooze or anything. They just go away on their own. My skin will sometimes burn slightly before they show up. They're so small though...nothing even very noticeable.

Rachel--24 replied to Faithperson's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, Welcome to the board. My migraines went away shortly after starting the diet. I was taking perscription pain meds daily for a year. Since the day I started the diet I havent taken any meds at all. -
ARCHIVED Allergic?
Rachel--24 replied to gointribal's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree. If I was to start a thread titled "Stupid Things Doctors Say"....that would definately in the top 5. -
I dont have a wheat allergy but sometimes my skin is affected from gluten. I've gotten rashes or tiny bumps on my face....they dont itch. I dont have DH.
-
A wheat allergy is a completely different immune response. Its not related to Celiac at all. An allergy cannot turn into Celiac. Celiac Disease is autoimmune . It is possible to have both conditions though. Some Celiacs also have a wheat allergy.

ARCHIVED Biopsy Accuracy
Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, If you are looking for something on paper to tell you to keep him off gluten go ahead with the biopsy but in my opinion its not necessary at this point. The biopsy may be negative but it wont change the fact that he needs to be gluten free. Unfortunately the biopsy will only be positive if he has enough damage to his villi. He could be very symptomatic... -
They're just going to give me antibiotics to get rid of the infection. I dont think my symptoms are as severe as some people with C-Diff but its more like the infection has depleted my immune system causing me to be sensitive to everything. Well....we dont know for sure if the infection is the cause of my ongoing symptoms but its a good possibility. Infections...

ARCHIVED Probitics Question
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Marcia, What is Danactive? Is it a probiotic? -
I'm not aware of doctors testing for casein intolerance. You can test through Enterolab or York or Great Smokies I believe. I could be wrong but thus far I havent heard of any doctor testing for it. They will test for lactose intolerance though.

ARCHIVED Testing/ Son Is Going In For Biopsy & Blood Testing
Rachel--24 replied to skurtz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't see anything sarcastic in Nini's posts. Perhaps you misunderstood her intentions? As far as I know she was just quoting information that the learned from a Celiac Specialist who spoke in her recent support group meeting. All we are trying to do here is give people the most information we can so that they can make informed decisions. I believe knowledge... -
ARCHIVED Probitics Question
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I never really got an answer to the questions. As far as Kefir I'm told making your own is the best. For me I cant take the storebought stuff because its too much sugar and I dont want to bother making my own. I saw a poll on another forum titled "which probiotic worked for you". Since many people mentioned getting positive results from the Primodophilus... -
ARCHIVED Teenager Just Diagnosed
Rachel--24 replied to jackie4's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I like the tapioca bread nini mentioned. Also, if you have a Whole Foods in your area they have a really good sandwhich bread from the WholeFoods GlutenFree BakeHouse. There are also some great recipes for making your own bread. -
I am very sorry about your mom. I'll keep both of you in my thoughts and prayers.

ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerant Vs. Celiac
Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can have Celiac and not have much intestinal damage or none at all. This could be the case if you are only in the beginning stages of the disease....damage may not have occurred yet or it may have been at a minimun alllowing you to heal quickly. Gluten Intolerance can cause intestinal damage but will not flatten the villi like what is seen in Celiac.... -
Berneses, C-Diff is a bacteria which most of us have but is controlled by good bacteria in the gut. Antibiotics kill off good bacteria and sometimes this allows the C-Diff (which is opportunistic) to spread and become an infection. It releases specific toxins which can be detected in the stool. C-Diff can be very serious...even deadly. The most common...
