  1. I'm avoiding alcohol until I'm healed. Alcohol can be very irritating to the gut plus it makes me feel bad.
  2. Thanks Jen, I've been reading up on C. Diff and it seems like it's something you definately DONT want to have. It can cause alot of suffering if left undiagnosed so I wonder if getting rid of it will improve my symptoms. All I can do is hope. Yeah...I took alot of antibiotics 3 years ago but at that time I knew nothing of probiotics. Your doctor...
  3. A large amount of the population carries the gene but obviously not everyone with the gene gets Celiac. A person with a family member with Celiac has a higher chance of also getting Celiac. A person who has a family member w/ celiac and also has had a postive blood test themselves has a high probabilty of having Celiac. Not having symptoms doesnt really mean...
  4. Kaka, tTG is actually the same as Tissue Transglutinaminase. Its just alot easier to type. If yours was positive than you have Celiac.
  5. Its a little health store in Cupertino. Its called Cupertino Nutrition. They carry alot of supplements but also the biggest selection of gluten-free foods I've seen in one place. Thats how I found out about them. They have a huge sign that reads "Biggest selection of gluten-free products in the Bay Area".
  6. When all this was going down and I was still in my HMO dealing with the BS I was very angry. I wanted to sue these guys. You cant sue an HMO as far as I know. All I could do was go through this big drawn out process and go to arbitration with it. Mainly I was upset because they werent bothering to figure out why I was sick AND they wouldnt release me to another...
  7. Find out what bloodtests were done and what the numbers were. In my opinion if the bloodtest was positive he's got Celiac. Especially if he's got positive bloodwork and family history. The biopsy is a "hit or miss"...it can only rule Celiac in but cannot rule it out. There are many reasons why a biopsy can come back negative even if he has Celiac. The damage...
  8. Ok....let me ask you this. Did you have "typical" symptoms of Celiac and were your tests positive for it right from the get go? This isnt the case for everyone. I heard about Celiac on my own and started the diet then asked my doctor to test me. He didnt order the full panel *and* he told me not eating gluten wouldn't affect the test results (2 mistakes...
  9. I'm thinking he can't be all that knowledgeable if he's saying people with Celiac can cheat once in awhile after they heal. Sure you *could* cheat and maybe not feel it....you could do whatever you want really. The fact is that everytime you consume gluten your immune system WILL react and that puts a strain on your body whether you feel it or not. Its an...
  10. Jenn, When I had my endoscopy the GI took a stomach sample for biopsy as well. He said he was looking for infection...I assume this was H. Pylori. I was never told exactly what they looked for...just that it was negative. My new doctor gave me one blood test for several things including H.Pylori and that was negative as well. The doc said a stool...
  11. Got your pm...will respond when I get off work.
  12. Thanks Chrissy, I did take short rounds of antibiotics because I had alot of dental work done. Also I started getting bumps/blisters on my face with a stinging/burning sensation. Dermatologist dx'd rosacea and gave me Tetracycline. I took the tetracycline for a few months but it didnt fix anything because I never had rosacea and the skin bumps are from...
  13. Awww...don't feel bad. I'm gluten free for several months now and still dont know what to eat. If you dont have other intolerances the diet is fairly easy (for me it was anyways). I got alot of other problems so its basically just meat and veggies for me right now....and yeah...no traveling. Theres so much you can eat thats gluten free though....
  14. If you were on a gluten free diet for 3 months the biopsy was useless at that point. Damage would not be visible after a strict gluten free diet. The only way to have a chance of coming back positive on the biopsy would be to go back ON gluten for several months and even then the biopsy is a "hit or miss"....so may still come back negative even if you have...
  15. Awesome!!! So glad you're doing great on the diet.
  16. Hi where are you in central California? I live in Manteca (near Stockton/Modesto) but spend the majority of my time in the Bay Area cuz of friends/family and work. Welcome to the board.
  17. I dont know about any of the foods you ate....just wanted to say sorry you feel sick.
  18. I just got my latest test results back and I have a bacteria infection. Something called C. Difficile. Anyone know what this is? I still have to look it up. This could be contributing to alot of my ongoing problems. The doctor wants to know if I have H. Pylori as well. I still havent taken the stool test for that...will do it this week. Anyways the doctor...
  19. LMAO!! I would soooo LOVE to do that!! I'm expecting a $900 bill any day now from my HMO that I dont belong to anymore. Since they wasted so much time telling me to see a shrink my benefits ran out due to being off work for 2 years. Now I have to pay for the last 3 months I was still in the HMO and had no coverage. Its gonna be REAL hard for me to write...
  20. I would say that without a doubt you have Celiac with all results coming back high. The tTG is the most specific for Celiac.
  21. Thats exactly what my doctor told me. When I found out about Celiac and went in to tell my doc to test me...he said "Yeah...I was gonna say you might have Celiac...but you dont have diarreah so you cant have it.". Nevermind that I had lost 25 lbs., had a bloated belly and pretty much every other symptom. Also, he was NEVER gonna say Celiac because he had...
  22. I think you have it wrong. Without a *drug* to precribe the disease goes unnoticed and no money is put into research. My doctor told me himself that Celiac is on their top 10 list of misdiagnosed diseases. Well...thats not surprising since he nor any of the other doctors never even MENTIONED celiac in the 3 years I was sick. My own GI told me that the...
  23. I have to agree with Debmidge. Please read ALL the posts before continuing to tell us we are wrong for our feelings. If you had read the posts you would have seen this: and this: Please read our stories before stating your opinions. You cant possibly know what we've gone thorough...you were diagnosed on your FIRST visit! That is...
  24. Hi Lollie, Welcome to the board. You will find lots of the people here have similar stories to tell. You may be gluten intolerant and not celiac but either way the diet is the only treatment. Since you've already started the diet and are noticing improvement I'd say you have your answer. You should find out exactly what tests were run for celiac...
