Hi Melisa, Sorry to hear you're feeling bad. Do you have a Whole Foods near you? They have some good bread from the Gluten Free BakeHouse....alot of other yummy goodies as well. I love their baked goods. If you're having a hard time making the adjustment around other people maybe it would help to avoid dinners until you feel comfortable. Its kind of...

ARCHIVED Quinoa
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
OK..cool. LOL....would it even be considered a strainer with holes that small? I saw that red quinoa at whole foods the other day. I was curious about it but left it on the shelf....I wondered if it somehow had more flavor. -
I wasn't aware we were required to post in a business-like fashion in order to get genuine responses to our questions. Personally, I like a person to feel free to be themselves...I came on here (as myself) and as was treated with decency. Why is he any different? Many of us can pinpoint when our symptoms began and the circumstances surrounding them...I know...

Wow, You are way out of line in your remarks. Here you are making assumptions about this man's motives and making light of his misfortune....this is not the place for that. I'm sure if this man were looking for dates he'd have much better luck on a forum specifically for that and not on a forum for Celiac Disease. Keep your suspicions to yourself.....like...

Celiachap, I disagree. We are not here to judge or scrutinize ones financial abilities. This is a support forum....people post all the time about life's "predicaments" and what brought on their illnesses. It seems to me you have some bitterness on your end but we are here to offer support. Lets not forget that.

ARCHIVED Quinoa
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah...I understood about it being a natural occuring chemical and not synthetic. I was just being silly about not wanting soapy insect repellent on my cereal. Since I ate flakes I'm sure the saponin was washed out but can it really be 100% removed? All I know is I got really sick so its definately not worth it to me to eat it again...I mean, it's... -

Yeah...I never woulda thought there was insect repellent on my cereal! What the... -
I agree, it's your right as a paying customer to be treated as such. I dont think that the situation was handeled properly and I would complain even higher up. Regardless of where she touched the glass, your complaint was not taken seriously and she was allowed to mock you by applying more lotion with a smug look on her face. Doesnt sound like a place that...

ARCHIVED Quinoa
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Jen, Maybe I should have washed the flakes...wonder if that would have helped. Well....now I know and I wont be eating them again....thats for sure. I bet it was residue that got me sick. I looked at the box and it says nothing about the saponin. I think if I was healthy it wouldnt have bothered me but my immune system is definately under some serious... -
ARCHIVED Questions To Bring To Celiac Specialist
Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I found my doctor without really looking...his number literally just showed up in my hands. I was shopping in a health store with my Mom and she picked up a flier and handed it to me. It was for gluten free resources....support groups, food places, doctors, etc. It had only 3 doctors and one I'd already tried to see but couldnt cuz of not being biopsy proven... -

Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah...you're TOTALLY weird! j/k apparantly there are a few of you weirdos on this thread. I'm not a picky eater and I even like the dry amaranth snaps but I just dont go for quinoa at all. I did not know it came with a soapy chemical on it. Great....if I was gonna get sick I'd rather it have been pizza...not some soapy quinoa... -

ARCHIVED Dr Advised Eating Gluten For 2 Weeks
Rachel--24 replied to kathy1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
2 weeks is not enough time to give an accurate biopsy. Its usually recommended that gluten is consumed daily for 3 months before testing. I dont know why the Dr. would wait until after he's started the diet to suggest the biopsy. -
ARCHIVED Inconclusive Biopsy?
Rachel--24 replied to sisterdayna's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have they checked if he is IgA deficicient because that would cause him to have negative blood tests even if he were Celiac? Yes, the fact that he has blunted villi means he should not be consuming gluten. For some reason doctors always seem reluctant to diagnose Celiac. Ultimately, you dont need a doctors permission when it comes to putting your son on... -
ARCHIVED Quinoa
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
LOL...I'm thinking noones gonna answer cuz probably everyone here feels the same. I'm the only one dumb enough to try it twice. -
I really dont care for quinoa (tried it a long time ago pre-gluten-free) but thought I'd give it another chance. I ate it for breakfast last Thursday and have been REALLY messed up ever since. I have every symptom of a glutening but I know it wasnt contaminated. My doctor told me to avoid both quinoa and amaranth because even though they are gluten-free they...

ARCHIVED Anyone Know If Quaker Oats Are Safe?
Rachel--24 replied to Kassidy's mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oats are a definate no-no. Quaker Oats are highly contaminated and not safe for a gluten-free diet. -
ARCHIVED Questions To Bring To Celiac Specialist
Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Beverly, I sincerely hope you have better luck with getting answers to these questions than I did. The "specialists" were of no help when it came to the lingering problems. I recently started seeing a doctor outside of the "mainstream". I have to say he is far more knowledgeable than ALL the doctors I've seen previously put together. He's currently running... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Of Malabsorbtion
Rachel--24 replied to Jenn2005's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Nearly all of my stools were pale and floating pre-gluten-free and I also had alot of oil residue but only black stools the one time (thanks to the oreos). That was actually the last time I had oreo cookies but it took me 4 more months to figure out about gluten. I do still see some oil but for the most part my stools dont float anymore but the oil still... -
ARCHIVED Did Anyone Need To Decrease Meds After Going gluten-free?
Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My blood tests were kind of unstable for 2 years before the diet. They were usually within the "normal" range but the range is big and I would go from one end to the next without changing doses. Regardless, I felt EXTREMELY hypothyroid. About 1 week into the diet that changed and I felt my body temp. go up and lots of other changes. No more dry, brittle hair... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Of Malabsorbtion
Rachel--24 replied to Jenn2005's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Is this what happens with malabsorption because pre-gluten-free that was happening to me alot? I remember being so sick and one night I had stools that were completely black. Not just dark...but black. I had never seen a stool look that color before. I was crying and scared...I was advised to go to urgent care to have them check for blood. It turned out to... -
ARCHIVED It's Time To Riot....
Rachel--24 replied to DragonQueen's topic in Publications & Publicity
Hmmm...after reading it I kinda think she did not mean it as an attack on Celiacs. I do see how it can easily be misinterpreted though. I wonder, with all these peple writing letters, if she will come out and say what she meant....exactly. -
Well...I checked out the legal/illegal list and even though this diet might help me....what the heck would I eat? Seriously? What do you guys eat? My only concern is if I give up rice, beans and potatoes (basically my only carbs) how will I maintain my weight. I dont want to drop under 100 again but I'm barely over right now. Wont I lose weight on...
