  1. Claire, Maybe you have DQ1. I think those Celiacs without DQ2 or DQ8 have DQ1 in common. From what I've read if there were another Celiac gene identified in the future it would likely be that one. Also keep in mind that you obviously have a leaky gut but may have intact villi. Those with flattened villi have Celiac. Those with a leaky gut do...
  2. Too funny!!! Sorry, I couldn't resist.
  3. Hmmm...I'll definately have to ask about it at my next appt. I know my doctor thinks I have some kind of parasite or bacteria infection going on but waiting for test results. During the summer I was only eating meats and veggies....no sugar...no carbs and I was feeling pretty good. Once I went back to the carbs some of my old symptoms came back but it...
  4. I don't agree with this theory because of the simple fact that not everyone with Celiac gets diarreah....and alot of people have no symptoms. What is going on when people have completely flattened villi and no diarreah? Nobody is yelling FIRE and nothing is rushing out of the digestive tract. Just as many people get constipation with Celiac so I don't see...
  5. Hmmmm...I thought dyslexia could be improved on a gluten free diet. Maybe not in all cases but I could swear I saw dyslexia as a symptom somewhere.
  6. Dunno whats wrong with me but when I'm glutened I'm not hungry at all...I dont want to eat anything for the first couple days and THEN all of a sudden I'm starving and cant get enough. Initially though...those first days.....the thought of eating scares me. purpleJennie, welcome to the board! I don't get much of the classic symptoms either...
  7. Sorry, but its not likely the biopsy is wrong. It can only be false if its negative. I dont know why your doctor wants more tests but if the biopsy showed damaged or flattened villi then you have Celiac. Did you ever have the bloodtests? Do you have any symptoms? If you do have symptoms you should feel a whole lot better after you start the diet.
  8. I've only had the Pacific brand which I like..I've heard Lundbergh is good too. Definately dont get Rice Dream because its NOT gluten free.
  9. Glad to hear your southern half is doing better! I asked my doctor about the SCD...He kind of smiled at me and said "We're not doing that right now". He said he knows why it works but will explain it later (it was the end of my appt.). Now I'm curious....I wanna know why it works....and if it works why the heck arent I on it.
  10. I sort of think of Celiac as a disease. I wouldnt call a person with a peanut allergy diseased but since Celiac isnt an allergy it can damage tissue without the person even knowing its happening. IMO.....if gluten is causing the immune system to attack your own tissues and can lead to such serious complications as osteoporosis and cancer....I'm thinking disease...
  11. There are some biopsy proven Celiacs who don't carry either the DQ2 or D8 gene. They have not yet identified all of the genes associated with celiac.
  12. Yeah...when I got out of my car they asked me if I wanted to buy some cookies and I got all happy and said "I'd LOVE to...*BUT*....you don't have gluten free cookies so I can't". They looked very dissapointed. I think I faked them out....they thought they had a sale. The Mom said "No...we don't have sugar-free and we don't have gluten-free." Apparantly...
  13. Wow Jackie, Girl Scouts sounds fun! I was never a scout....kinda seems like I missed out. Nini, Funny you should post this today cuz I just came home to a mother and daughter selling girl scout cookies. I had to turn them down.
  14. I would probably take the pill occassionally in situations where it would be hard to get a gluten-free meal or something like that. Definately not an a daily basis. I would be more interested in a pill for curing leaky gut and the extra intolerances that develop because of it. For me that is more of a problem than the gluten free diet.
  15. Jersey, I hope you find a doctor that can sort everything out for you. Did you ever hear anything back from the clinic? If not I found a link to locate doctors similar to mine...(I think). Don't know if they are all as knowledgeable as he is re: gluten intolerance but its worth a try. They should offer a free consultation (I had one) so you could probably...
  16. Are you currently eating gluten and do you have symptoms? Ultimately the most definitive test is your bodies own response to removal of gluten from the diet...assuming you have symptoms of course. You can ask for a biopsy if you're still eating gluten but even if the results of that are negative you could still have Celiac with minimal or no damage yet. The...
  17. Every time I ate the Blue Diamond Nut thins I felt glutened the next day. It took me a long time to figure out it was from the crackers because I never noticed the warning on the box....well it took me like 3 months to finally take a look. Good thing I was keeping a food diary or I may have NEVER looked. I was eating the ones in the blue box and also...
  18. Hmmm...I disagree. I think its been proven that some Celiacs react to oats. Even pure oats with no detectable gluten. Oats are naturally free of gluten so any gluten would have to come from contamination. Soooo...if some Celiacs get the same type of damage from oats as they do from gluten. How is that possible? Its obviously not just an allergy if its damaging...
  19. Does this rule apply to only *dried* date pieces? What about the whloe dates in the packages in Whole Foods produce section...are those ok?
  20. Nancy, What my doc says, and I dont know if its true, is that once we go gluten-free we feel much better (obvious huge load lifted off the immune sysyem)....but....after that initial feeling of well-being other problems kick in. He says the vast majority of gluten intolerant people end up with intestinal infections from bacteria overgrowth or parasites....
  21. I have Graves Disease and had radioactive iodine 3 years ago. This is before I found out about gluten . How long have you been gluten-free? My advice is to wait on the RAI and see if the diet helps the situation. You can take meds first before making the decision to go through with RAI. Once you have RAI....there is no going back and you WILL have to take...
  22. LOL...thats what I was thinking too. Either that or they have an evil twin...i.e. split personalities. I'm beginning to think *anything* can happen here.
  23. I didnt see anything. I came home for lunch...realized after reading these posts that my pm box was full so deleted old messages. Came home to a bunch of pm's about the dining card thread getting deleted. Sorry guys, didn't mean to get the thread thrown out. I guess I upset the Triumph guy or something? Oh well...there is another thread brought...
  24. Sorry guys, This post was old from like August so I dont have problems getting PM's now except that I'm lazy and I didnt delete old messages. My box is no longer full for those who want to send a PM. Judy, I did get one PM from you the other day...was there more? Go ahead and send it again.
  25. I like the Amy's dinners. Not all are gluten-free though...you have to look for the ones that say gluten free.
