Rachel--24 replied to skbird's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey Stephanie! I was really impressed with the Crave cake. It's pretty cute too....I got it for my desert on Thanksgiving. It just looked "perfect" in the box...and it was. I wouldnt have known it was dairy and gluten free...it didnt taste any different to me. -

Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Nancy There are some links posted a little further up on this thread. They were posted by gf4life. I also posted some links on the first page...some of the links might be the same as what she posted. Ursulsa, Did you read gf4life's post? Here son also has problems with nasal polyps. Apparantly they are very common with salicylate sensitivity... -

ARCHIVED Can't Seem To Get My New Topics To Show Up!
Rachel--24 replied to mamaw's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
The topic needs to be "pinned" by a moderator. Once it is pinned it can be seen on the front page of the forum. Also sometimes the moderator may move the topic to a different forum if it is more suitable in a different area. The topic can always be viewed in "todays active topics"...you can look here for it immediately after you post it. The link is near... -
I remember reading that Buckweat isnt actually a grain...its a berry...I think. Anyways I'm doing a salicylate-free diet and all berries are high in salicylates. I have a list of "safe" foods and buckwheat is listed as "safe" but its also listed as a grain. I KNOW its not a grain....but what exactly is it? I've been eating it and seem to be reacting...

ARCHIVED She's Back . . . .
Rachel--24 replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
From all I've read gluten cant be absorbed into the skin but alot of people say they get skin reactions from it anyway. I dont really know but I'm inclined to think that since Celiacs tend to have more sensitivities anyway...its not unlikely that some ingredients in skin products can also be irritating or cause symptoms. It might not necessarily be gluten... -
ARCHIVED My Husband's Symptoms
Rachel--24 replied to achiera's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think the chances are pretty slim but anything can happen! I think its very cool and definately makes life easier for both of you not having to worry about having gluten in the house. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Experienced "withdrawal" Symptoms When Going Gluten Free....?
Rachel--24 replied to cami's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Its not unusual to experience withdrawl symptoms as gluten is highly addictive. I actually thought I was dying the first few days of the diet. I was already really sick and off work on disability so when I went off gluten it was much much worse for the first week. I was scared but I felt human again after that first week. -
ARCHIVED Having A Hard Time Committing To This Diet
Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't want to go back to my old "normal" diet EVER because of how sick I was. I'll do whatever I have to to live a healthy happy life. I'm actually envious of those who only have to avoid gluten. I have to avoid other foods as well and in my opinion living gluten-free is really not that hard once you are consistent with it. It comes natural to me now and... -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy + Positive Ttg Antibodies
Rachel--24 replied to ownedbykira's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's VERY possible to have a negative biopsy and still have Celiac. False negative biopsies are common whereas false negative tTG is highly unlikely. Ultimately how you feel on the diet will be the deciding factor. -
ARCHIVED How Many Doctors/tests Did You Have To Go Through To Get Properly Diagnosed?
Rachel--24 replied to sillyyak's topic in Doctors
Hi Nancy! My post reads exactly like Ian's....about 30 doctors in only 3 years. I was off work on disability and would NOT let the doctors forget about me. Not that it helped....they never cared. -
ARCHIVED Salicylates Sensitivity
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ok...for anyone who was following this thread, I saw my new doc yesterday and we taked for a long time about my symptoms and then I was given a phsyical. When she checked my nose she was shocked and told me I had huge polyps and that my tissue was swollen and the polyps were back into my cheek or sinus area. I've had pain here for the entire time I've been... -
Wow, Thanks for posting that Nancy, I can't wait until he publishes the results of his studies. I hope it will be sometime this year. I think I'll always be curious about the results of my test until further is known about the stool tests. Its exciting....I wish I could go.

ARCHIVED It's Official... We Can Eat Oats!
Rachel--24 replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I got some blisters on my face the day after my last bowl of oatmeal. First I got "D" but didnt think too much of it...now because of the blisters I dont trust the oats. I thought maybe dairy had caused the D but I've never gotten the blisters from dairy. I'm kind of bummed but the oatemeal was REALLY good. I cant see myself trying it again though. I... -

ARCHIVED What's Your Favorite Cereal?
Rachel--24 replied to WGibs's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sheeesh, I wonder about my tastebuds cuz I've never been picky and I pretty much like anything. I was eating the amaranth snaps....without the cinnamon even...and I liked them. I figured the cinnamon ones would be great but I couldnt try them cuz I'm sensitive to cinnamon. Yeah...they were definately dry and chalky but I still liked em. Don't... -
ARCHIVED Member Poll - Who Abstains From Other Foods Besides Gluten?
Rachel--24 replied to Jeepster's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well for me I'm pretty much off of everything right now. No dairy, soy, corn, eggs, red meat, yeast, sugar, addititives, food colorings, etc. I'm pretty much going to only eat rice, lamb, pears and some vegetables. I'm doing the strictest elimination diet so I can figure out what I really need to avoid. It should be loads of fun... Tarnalberry, You... -
ARCHIVED Blood Blisters, Anyone Get These?
Rachel--24 replied to jecareborn's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi, I get those. They are also on the insides of my cheeks. They don't hurt at all and I ususally dont even know they're there unless I feel them with my tongue or see them in the mirror. They go away usually after only a day. I dont know what causes them and I never noticed having them pre-gluten-free...I thought they could be related to gluten ingestion... -
As far as I know the test is painless. You just lay there while a machine goes over you. My mom says its gotta be the easiest test ever...totally painless. I think I should get one eventually since I also have Graves Disease. I think people with Graves are suppossed to get this test done but none of my doctors have ever mentioned it to me....not that thats...

ARCHIVED I Keep Running Into Stuff
Rachel--24 replied to laurelfla's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I used to crash into stuff all the time when I was real sick...pre-gluten-free. I think it had something to do with the brain-fog...I was just plain out-of-it. -
ARCHIVED Obsession Perfume (by Calvin Klein)
Rachel--24 replied to teebs in WV's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nini, My reaction is similar to yours. My eyes burn and I get the mucous but no asthma. If the scent is strong the tissue in my face starts to swell...mostly around my eyes and jaw. Its painful. Also my mouth starts to burn...I can sometimes taste the perfume. A couple times I've felt my whole body get hot like a heat flash and I almost balcked out once... -
ARCHIVED Msg, Good Or Bad
Rachel--24 replied to kathy1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think of MSG as poison. I react to some chemicals and MSG is one of them....it has nothing to do with gluten...its just plain bad. -
ARCHIVED It's Official... We Can Eat Oats!
Rachel--24 replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maybe the fiber had something to do with it but I think the dairy just really messed me up. The oats that I ate were McCanns...does anyone know if there's a difference between the ones in the can and the oatmeal in the box? I've eaten both and the instant ones look like the ususal oatmeal but the ones in the can are more like tiny pellets. For some... -
ARCHIVED It's Official... We Can Eat Oats!
Rachel--24 replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had oats 4 times in the past 2 weeks. 2 bowls of cereal and 2 batches of cookies. I havent noticed any significant reactions. I did have "D" today (highly unusual for me) after having oatmeal for breakfast but it could be totally unrelated. I had some sharp stomach cramps a couple times as well. Its really hard for me to know since I also added dairy back... -
ARCHIVED Salicylates Sensitivity
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ursula, I know what you mean about the frusteration in changing everything...again. I had to change all my hair products and cosmetics for about the third time...not to mention a whole new diet. I thought I was doing everything right and eating so healthy but apparantly I was doing everything wrong for my body. I wasnt using coconut oil or honey because...
