  1. There is no test that I'm aware of that can tell you exactly why you have leaky gut. There are only tests to determine what problems you might have that can be causing inflammation, GI symptoms, food intolerances, etc. Leaky gut is a result of something going on in the body....so its a symptom....a symptom which leads to more and more symptoms. If you...
  2. Actually all of those things are extremely high in salicylates/phenols......so even if they produced a BM....the toxicity that would build up in my body would not be worth it. So unfortunately those things (especially herbs/fruits) are totally off limits for me. Ditto to all of this. Try not to worry too much Kassandra. Take it one day...
  3. About thyroid eye disease (TED)....RAI can trigger this or worsen it. I did have severe eye symptoms and my Endo. would measure my eyeballs (with some type of instrument) at each visit. I had a CT scan to look at the muscles and there was only mild inflammation...nothing severe and my eyes never did buldge (even though there was such intense pressure I felt...
  4. Well I finally finished the test....thanks to a few handfuls of chocolate chips. The thing is I cant get the test picked up until Monday....since I'll be in court tomorrow. The instructions say the test needs to be at the lab within 5 days of collection. Well the first collection (day one) was already 6 days ago. I have no idea if they mean...
  5. Actually my own thoughts/opinions/experiences are much different from this. Its not necessarily true that if you stop eating gluten your body heals....it depends on what is damaging your body. If a person is gluten intolerant as a result of some other undiagnosed condition...then removing gluten is not going to resolve everything. Also, allergy...
  6. I didnt do anything on my own...no cleanses or anything like that. I had different treatments under the care of my Dr.'s....including chelation for heavy metals. None of my doctors are mainstream. For me allergy testing was not helpful since I have intolerances...not true allergies. Even though I reacted to everything...including environmental stuff.....
  7. Yeah...the ice cream had me regular. It balanced stuff out....but at the same time my brain function was way down....and I was in my own world...just me and my ice cream. I didnt even realize it until I had to give up the ice cream...the Dr.'s kept telling me and it took awhile for me to take their advice but yeah....major difference in the brain function...
  8. Unfortunately, some people do have that many food intolerances.....so the diet can get pretty limited. Its not all that easy to make changes when you're reacting to over 95% of whats out there....and even on the cleanest diet possible.
  9. I'm dealing with the same thing....only a short list of foods that I can get by with (you can count them on one hand). Honestly, there is nothing that I can consider truelly "safe" though. I've been doing it for awhile.....I have things pretty well under control and I do have plenty of days where I treat myself to other stuff....just cant do it on a daily...
  10. Also, I have to say that this process has made me realize how much my enzymes were helping. I'm not able to take them while doing the CDSA and for the first time in months I'm feeling bloated and really stuffed after my meals. It always feels like I'm eating too much (well...ok I do tend to overdo it a bit) but the whole time I was taking my enzymes...
  11. I'm so frusterated with the stupid CDSA test!! This test is the worst for someone who's got C....maybe heinous would be a more accurate description. I finally started the test last Friday....then completed day two on Saturday. I felt like I was on a roll...until Sunday....which is when I had the tiniest BM ever. Of course day 3 is the...
  12. Is it any brand of orange juice that causes this reaction? Is he ok with apple juice? Orange juice is very acidic but some kids also are very sensitive to phenols and can get this type of reaction from orange juice because the phenol content is high. Are there any foods that he seems to crave? I would definately try the gluten-free diet regardless...
  13. I have these same symptoms before AND after gluten free...but never before I got sick. Before I restricted my diet I woke up with numb hands almost every day. My feet and hands would also get numb and tingly sitting at the computer...or anytime I was just sitting in one place. After I cleaned up my diet it all went away....I didnt take vitamins or minerals...
  14. I use digestive enzymes....AFP Peptizyde, No Fenol, and Zyme Prime (Houston Nutraceuticals). I actually have worse problems with the alternative grains (quinoa, amaranth, sorghum, buckwheat) than I have with gluten. The majority of my intolerances are not due to the foods themselves but an inability to break them down. Some of it is caused by enzyme...
  15. Yes...they can be symptoms of Celiac....or they can be symptoms from something else entirely. You will not be able to determine this (with any certainty) without knowing whether or not she has Celiac.
  16. Food intolerance testing cannot diagnose Celiac Disease. If you are looking for a Celiac diagnosis you would have to go with the bloodwork/biopsy. Which antibodies were elevated in her testing? Some are more specific for Celiac than others. If this Dr. wont diagnose her without the biopsy maybe someone else will. Whether she gets a formal diagnosis or...
  17. The tests are not useful if he's already been on the diet. He needs to be eating gluten in order to have reliable testing. If there is no gluten in the diet...there will be no antibodies in the blood...and the bloodtests are looking for these antibodies. The antibodies dont appear in the blood in a short period of time.....it takes awhile for them to appear...
  18. Celiac Disease cannot be determined from those tests. You will have to wait for the Celiac tests to be done since none of these other tests are specific for Celiac.
  19. Were you given antibiotics for this stomach flu?? Have you taken alot of antibiotics in the past for various infections? Do you have mercury fillings? These are just a couple of things that can set the stage for gut problems....but there are many things that can happen to upset the balance. Basically one of the main problems contributing to leaky gut is...
  20. In my experience the most knowledgeable doctors are the ones who are treating conditions such as Lyme Disease, heavy metal toxicity, Autism and other neurological disorders. I got lucky with this part because when I left my HMO the first Dr. I went to (who specialized in gluten intolerance/leaky gut, etc) was not able to get anywhere with me....after...
  21. Kassandra, I cant blame you for being scared....you're going through so much right now. I actually felt better for you after reading Patti's post...so hopefully its somewhat reassuring. The good thing is that you now have an obgyn who is not ignoring these things and that everything is getting addressed as far as the bleeding/thickened...
  22. Leaky gut is definately cureable. You cant identify a single "recognized cure" for a condition which can result from several different factors. Its not realistic. One person may have leaky gut because they have Celiac Disease, another person may have leaky gut because they have parasites, another may have a yeast overgrowth, another may have problems with...
  23. Isnt it possible that those unrecognized gluten "sensitivity" genes (such as DQ1 and DQ3) could indicate that people with these genes are more susceptible to leaky gut? Afterall....no lab in the US (other than Enterolab) is recognizing these genes as being gluten "sensitivity" genes. Of course EVERY person with (or without) symptoms who has gene testing...
  24. If people with double DQ1 die before they ever get villi damage....isnt it possible that they actually never WOULD get villi damage?? I only have one copy of DQ1 but I'd bet everything I own that I'm going to die before I ever get the villi damage seen in Celiac Disease. I think it would be a pretty safe bet too. There is a board member...
  25. LOL...are you agreeing that she should give up bathing?? Well, I think her family members may object....unless of course she's planning on getting a showerhead soon! Paula, in that case you'll probably have to make getting a showerhead a priority...so yeah....I agree too! No bathing until you get the showerhead!!
