ARCHIVED Dq1 Genes - Share Your Symptoms - Compare Notes With Others

Lyme testing is very unreliable. The vast majority of true Lyme cases test negative with labs such as Quest or other non-specialty labs. Its a hard one to diagnose since no test is 100% reliable. Kind of like Celiac...if the antibodies arent present at the time of testing (and there are several reasons why that could be) then results can be false negative... -

There are always going to be people who choose to ignore...however, I do think that people are really starting to "come around". Little by little I see the changes....the shift toward alternative medicine rather than conventional drugs to mask symtoms, the growing interest in organic foods as well as foods free of additives and other harmful ingredients.... -

Most of us here have problems with detoxification. Otherwise we'd be healthy and out having fun....eating whatever we want. You definately need help with the toxins you're stirring up. You need a binder to absorb the toxins. If the Glutathione, TMG and B12 were enough....you would not be feeling so sick. Some people dont herx at all....or have very minor... -

Shay, Have you been tested for Lyme Disease (Igenex)? These are some of the main symptoms of Lyme. If you feel that some of these symptoms have intensified after going gluten-free...it could be that you have underlying infections. Check out the Lyme Disease Thread for more info. With those symptoms that would be the first thing I'd look into... -

If the reason you cant tolerate dairy is because you need help digesting it then the enzyme would be helpful. I have other problems with dairy which are seperate from the casein issue (phenols and amines)...so even with the enzyme I can still have problems with milk, cheese, etc. There is one enzyme that I know of which has worked wonders for the autistic... -

We did not have more environmenal mercury during those times. We have more now! I already posted several quotes with info. about the rising levels of environmental mercury in the last thread where we discussed this. Fish is more contaminated with mecury now as well. This is not true. While I was growing up kids didnt have these issues. We had tests... -

They arent a cure for Celiac but if you do not have Celiac and are reacting to gluten and dairy because you lack the enzyme to break them down (DPPIV) then yes...the enzymes can make a big difference. I dont know the extent of your problems....or if you have additional food intolerances...but if you cant avoid these foods it might be worth your while to... -

I had problems with ALL enzymes.....I hadn't tolerated any of them. I have some alternative Dr.'s that I see who do energetic testing to determine what I can tolerate (supplements and meds) and at what dose. They couldnt find a single enzyme that I tested well for...not a single one. I finally gave up on enzymes because everytime I tried I'd end up... -

I take AFP Peptizyde to aid in the digestion of gluten and casein. I dont have Celiac and the enzyme has helped me quite a bit. There are other enzymes to help with other foods you might have problems with. You might try something like this if you're constantly getting symptoms because you cant avoid exposure. -

Another thought.....are you taking any type of toxin binder?? If you're not...I would recommend taking something to help absorb and eliminate those toxins. It can make a big difference as far as the Herx goes. When you kill bugs you are also releasing metals into your system. If you're not doing anything to keep them from circulating you can be suffering... -

People do get sick when herxing. A "herx" reaction is an indication that you're stirring up more toxins than you are capable of excreting. The symptoms are caused by toxins circulating through your system. Its basically an overload of toxins that are overwhelming your system. I know that some Dr.'s are quite aggressive with antibiotics but in my opinion... -

I did this too! I crashed into things constantly....lots of "owies" during that time. I havent had that problem in quite awhile now. If I totally loaded up on processed foods and such I think I would notice some of those problems returning. I'd be bumping into dressers and door jams again. I was tested for MS early on. I had many visits with the neurologist... -

Personally, I think there are alot of self diagnosed Celiac's who do not carry the main genes and very likely do not have villi damage. In my opinion a positive response to the diet does indicate a gluten intolerance but not necessarily Celiac. DQ1 is the gene that most of the biopsy proven Celiac's without DQ2 or DQ8 carry. If DQ1ers are not getting better... -

Positivity is a great thing! Keeping this attitude will get you far. Never give up hope! This is the same thing I told myself when I was at my worst. I was "normal" once....and I can get there again. Its also the same point my Dr.'s have reiterated....If my immune system was coping fine for 3 decades....it can handle things again once the burden is... -

No, I dont think that we are doomed....I think that we just have to work harder to resolve our issues. It definately takes longer then a few months to clear out toxins that have accumulated over decades. Its my understanding that when mercury is detoxed from the body (and this can take some time) all other toxins leave more readily. That statement... -

Yup....it looks like you do have DQ1. I just now noticed that its in your signature. So far all of the DQ1'ers have had ongoing symptoms which the diet didnt resolve. We need more input though! -

Everything I'm taking is from Kirkman's Labs. I do have a pretty good brand of calcium and magnesium but I feel I do even better on Kirkman supplements. I only take the ones which are from their hypoallergenic line...none of the liquids. I'm waiting for my next shipment. I'll be taking: Calcium Magnesium Zinc Chromium Folinic w/ B12 Molybdenum... -

There has been talk of this for some years now....although so far it hasnt been recognized as a Celiac gene. Of those with an official diagnosis of Celiac Disease (biopsy proven) the percentage of those with DQ2 or DQ8 is somewhere around 97%...maybe even higher. That leaves only a small percentage who do not carry the main genes....and some of those people... -

Patti, Do you still have your Enterolab results? It would be interesting to see if you also have DQ1. I think I recall you posting them but I dont remember what they were. I think I've also read that people with DQ1 tend to be more sensitive to gluten. I cant really say this about myself now that I'm eating it on a regular basis....but... -

Edema is one of my symptoms as well. It has never resolved but it can get much worse if I'm not careful with my diet. The first few years of my illness the fluid retention was pretty bad....at that time I was not on a restricted diet and I was not gluten-free. I've been down to only a handful of foods....and at one point only 2 foods....however, the edema... -

Hmmm...maybe you are DQ1 (subtype 6)?? I was basing it on this info.... any HLA-DQB1*03xx [known as HLA-DQ3 (except 0302 ~this is the celiac gene known as DQ8, and is also known as DQ3, subtype 8)] any HLA-DQB1*05xx [known as HLA-DQ1] ...but like I said...thee's alot I dont know about interpereting genes. I dont know a ton about interpreting the genes but from what little I do know I'm guessing that you have DQ3 (subtype 7) which is the same gene I have...and you do not have DQ1. I'm not sure which gene HLA-DQB1 - Allele 2 - 0602 is?? I'm sure somebody else can help with that one. If you tested negative for Celiac genes then you wouldnt have a DQ... -
