  1. My older brother had this (he doesn't have celiac or gluten problems that we know of) and it finally just went away for no clear reason after a year or two. It was the first time I hear of anyone being allergic to water! Hope you figure it out soon!
  2. Wow, thanks for the info and link, very informative. I did once have an anaphylactic reaction once to tetracyclene in the doc's office, so they gave me epinephrine right there. I didn't know till now that means you can be more likely to react to other things, too.
  3. amiglute, going gluten-free for sure made symptoms of glutening suddenly worse for me. It blows my mind that six months ago I was eating pasta and garlic bread and feeling noooo pain... but this week I did a mini-gluten challenge and had a super severe reaction!! Who knows why our bodies just realize they don't want this stuff after we go gluten-free....
  4. Thanks... I still don't seem to tolerate probiotics, but as soon as I do, I'll jump on them! I'll look for those multi-strain ones. RainingSkittles, I SO hear you on the cheese!
  5. Wow, GottaSki and GFinDC, those are super scary stories! I am emailing my doc today to share the results... and trust me, I don't plan on EVER eating wheat again. I got my answer, which was all I needed. Whether I have other issues contributing to the D or not, I now know without a doubt that wheat and/or gluten is indeed a serious problem for me.
  6. Wow, your recovery is amazing! Thanks for the inspiration...
  7. Thank you rosetapper... I knew I had to give it some time, but wow, 18 months. I will try the L-glutamine right away.
  8. I've been easing back into dairy myself and learned a few things. I can do okay with small amounts of hard cheeses AND a chewable Lactaid tablet. I tried going without the tablets and have regretted it every time. I've also learned that I can't tolerate certain foods even with the tablets. Those include ice cream and most yogurt. Also, the amount I eat...
  9. Skittles, my poor doc went along with me on this, it was my idea... I wanted to be totally sure my chronic D is caused by gluten and not something else because 1) I still have the D after 3 months gluten-free and 2) I couldn't have a biopsy for financial reasons and because I have a bad duodenal ulcer that's too irritated for a 'scope. I had mixed blood results...
  10. For various reasons, doc and I decided I should do a mini-gluten challenge, part of figuring out why I still have major problems with D. So I carefully planned it out and last night had a few Trader Joe's dim sum in which I was sure the only ingredient that would bother me was the wheat. Immediately my eyes, lips and face swelled up and my eyes got insanely...
  11. Wow! Good analogy... sad and true...
  12. I do understand you!!!!! I've had a roller coaster of a time dealing with this for five months now, and mostly have accepted that this is just one of life's tests. But for for some reason, this week in particular I've been wanting to rant "When will this freakin' diarrhea end?!!!!" Sigh. It's okay to vent your frustration now and then. Of course, after...
  13. Wow, great thread, these posts give me hope. SMDBill, your results are amazing! I've been 3 months gluten-free and, sadly, have not had one of those miraculous recoveries when it comes to GI issues (severe D). It's not as horrible as it was in June, but it's not gone either. The longest I've been without D is 4-5 days. Still checking out other intolerances...
  14. Yep, I had this for a few years and always thought it was my duodenal ulcer... then it got really bad this year while they were trying to figure out my GI diagnosis! It has completely gone away since going gluten-free (unlike my other symptoms ).
  15. Welcome to the club! This is a great forum that has helped newbies like me so much... I sure hope you continue to feel better and better. That alone should help you stay committed to your gluten free life. It's what does it for me. It makes me crazy that clear, indisputable results from a gluten challenge aren't considered enough for a diagnosis of...
  16. My first blood tests were negative and then in a second round only one test was positive. No biopsy for various reasons... So my doctor wasn't sure whether to call it celiac or not. But as he said, it doesn't matter, one little crumb of gluten and I react! My point is, if you are "gluten sensitive," you can react as badly as any officially diagnosed...
  17. I feel your pain! Yes we can and must find ways to work around all these hassles, but I admit there are days when I just want to vent about it...grrrr. That said, I never, ever leave home without a cooler. My cooler is my friend. I must always pack food when I go to conferences, wedding etc. If I don't, I've learned the hard way that I will go hungry...
  18. Yep, I've had to throw out sauces and dressings that list soy sauce as an ingredient (without breaking it down further). However, in the allergen information they all say "contains wheat." Took me a while to figure out where that wheat was hiding!
  19. Yes!!! Low lymphocytes were among the first symptoms that caused my doctor to consider celiac. Just like your doctor, mine said they can often be low when you're fighting an infection -- in my case, it ended up being because a my T-cell lymphocytes were in my small intestines "fighting" gluten as part of the immune response (and therefore, a lower...
  20. Let us know what happens! I'm thinking of doing this just to see if my continuing D is from accidental glutenings or something else. Thought it would help me know for sure what a glutening feels like. But I'm kinda scared to do it....
  21. Thanks and you're right! I know I have to get even MORE vigilant about labels... this time it was something gluten-free but "made in a facility that processes wheat." Sigh. Still learning...Luckily the rash isn't any worse, just the GI stuff.
  22. Thank you soooo much for the info & hugs! Having a rough day as I just accidentally glutened myself again, grrr. So far the rash is tiny so hoping it stays that way. But I do eat a lot of those foods, so I will cut back and see if that helps. And thanks for the links!
  23. I have some very small rashes that I've had for a couple years that I've suspected might be DH. This week some new ones showed up on my tummy and arms. Is it even possible to have a new DH outbreak after going off gluten? I've had a few accidental glutenings of course but am mostly free of GI symptoms the last couple of weeks after being super careful...
  24. First of all, welcome! Funny how my worst symptoms started after a few months of eating lots of pasta and bread! My symptoms were very different, however, but then there is a huge range of how celiac affects people. Why don't you try a couple of weeks without eating wheat or gluten and see if you feel better? If you decide to try this, remember...
  25. Good for you! I know the feeling, I went to a dear friend's wedding last month and couldn't eat a thing during three days of receptions, dinners and the wedding itself. I did lose a few unwanted pounds though
