ARCHIVED Needing Reassurance :-)
gatita replied to troykm's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sounds solid to me. A lot of people don't have all positive results from all the tests, just some of them. That's why they try so many! My blood tests were negative at first and we couldn't do a biopsy at all because my duodenum is too inflamed and ulcered. Second round of tests partly a strong positive and combined with very clear (bad) results when... -
I've had this itchy rash for two years on my left upper back (right where I can't reach it, drives me mad!). Last year, another spot appeared on the back of my scalp. Early this year, another itchy patch on my lower right belly. It's not symmetrical, and psoriasis runs in my family, so I figured it wasn't DH. But it looks nothing like my brothers' psoriasis...

ARCHIVED Oh Happy Day!
gatita posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just had to shout. For the first time in months, on Thursday I finally had a day (and then another and now, today) with hardly any GI symptoms!!!! Wow, I forgot what it felt like. I've been gluten-free for two months exactly and this is the first real relief I've felt. The numbness and severe joint pains I've had since January are getting better, too... -
ARCHIVED Testing An App For That...
gatita replied to gatita's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the warnings! Yes, I will still read the labels just to be sure. And what you say is exactly why I'm afraid to eat in restaurants, at least for now. I had a fabulous gluten-free meal at PF Changs but something (I think the gluten-free dessert) didn't agree with me at all. (To be fair, it might have been the lactose in it.) -
ARCHIVED Suggestions For gluten-free Freezer Foods?
gatita replied to mamaupupup's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am trying to figure this out too. I'm freezing dinner leftovers like mad (I make huge veggie casseroles, main dishes, etc.). I freeze them in single-serving containers so I just can grab one for lunch. Trying go get into the Sunday "cook big" habit. I'm making big batches of beans, rice, etc. and freezing single servings of those too. I have to make... -
I know this is an old thread, but this is very helpful to me. I've been having all kinds of bad joint pains (Sciatica and shoulder/arm pain) that are even worse than the D. My physical therapist looked at me like I was looney tunes when I mentioned I'd been diagnosed by my MD as gluten intolerant and I thought there might be a connection! Sigh...Glad...

ARCHIVED Testing An App For That...
gatita posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am trying out this phone app called Fooducate that costs $4.99. Thought I'd give a mini-review here. The app scans bar codes and tells you if a product has gluten, might be questionable, or has no gluten ingredients. You can also check for lactose, milk, soy and other major allergens. Only three at a time, though. It's super easy to use with my old... -
ARCHIVED Dang! Tomato Paste
gatita replied to gatita's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
And by the way, I just found out it's not only that Contadina product. My friend checked other "tomato paste" in her cupboard and the ingredients were almost the same. This time it was one of those off-label cheap-o brands called Western Family. No "Italian herbs" but yes wheat gluten. -
You're welcome! I'd love to hear how the doctors react if you do give them something...

ARCHIVED Gi Appointment Today
gatita replied to bobtom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm anxious to hear what others say about this! I had highly positive anti-gliadin iga but slightly negative ttg ab. This was after almost 4 weeks gluten-free, however, so me and my doc assumed that was why the negative ttg. He is satisfied to call it celiac anyway (for a long list of other reasons). ps. Oh, but my overall IGA was also tested and... -
Yes, this site has great articles! They aren't articles, but the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness website has several downloadable pamphlets that are somewhat simplified but helpful for those starting from scratch, and also a one-page diagram showing the similarities and differences between celiac and non-celiac gluten sensitivity. I've also...

ARCHIVED 2 Years gluten-free!
gatita replied to adab8ca's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks you so much for this post!!!! I have been feeling discouraged too and wondering what's wrong with me after hearing about so many people who feel better just a few days or weeks after going gluten-free. I haven't been one of them, still have major gut issues and joint pain... so you give me hope. Congratulations on your anniversary and on getting... -
Whole Foods also sells the toaster bags. I put my bread atop aluminum foil sometimes, but just got the bags and they are pretty nifty.

ARCHIVED Dang! Tomato Paste
gatita replied to gatita's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks, those photos really show it... Yes, as you suggest Peter, I expect tomato paste to be made of something simple, like, oh, tomatoes and salt. Never heard of "tomato paste product." Silly me. Live and learn. I'm hurting and the intestinal "gurgles" were so loud today, I had to walk out of work till they settled down! This from one bowl of soup... -
ARCHIVED Dang! Tomato Paste
gatita posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am just recently diagnosed and 6 weeks gluten-free, so I am still learning. My friend's homemade soup last night made me soooo sick so she fished the can out of the garbage and there it was, right on the label: "wheat gluten." I couldn't believe it! I thought I was a hard-core label checker, but didn't think to bug her about tomato paste after she... -
ARCHIVED Cc Or Withdrawal?
gatita replied to AnnieInItaly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry you're feeling bad! I can't answer your withdrawal symptom questions because I never experienced any withdrawal at all. I got hit with CC pretty soon after going gluten-free, so I don't think there's such a thing as being too early. I have gone through the "glutening" experience with a few products whose ingredients didn't list anything containing... -
ARCHIVED Going The Primal Route....
gatita replied to LauraB0927's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks everyone for your replies, they give me lots of ideas! I'm liking Eat-Clean so far, in some ways it's not that different except you can have 2-4 servings of grains if you want, so I do have some corn tortillas, quinoa, or brown rice. It's heavy on the veggies, fruit and nuts, with very little dairy. Basically you combine lean protein with complex... -
I had to look up proctitis... it sounds painful, poor kid. I can't believe there is lactose in almond milk. I drink it all the time, and I am sure lactose is ONLY found in milk products. Hope someone else can come along to answer your other concerns.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Since 8/15 - How Long Until I Feel Better?
gatita replied to Raining Skittles's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm a newbie here too. Today I am five weeks gluten-free with a couple of nasty glutenings in there. It's been exactly like you say, a roller coaster and even getting worse. It's only in the last week that I've seen my gut symptoms really getting noticeably better (especially the basketball belly starting to deflate... yay!!!) So I don't know if that... -
ARCHIVED Frequent Heart Burn
gatita replied to Npealer's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Dang, I had the opposite effect. My heartburn is soooo much better now. Sorry you have to deal with it! And I AM getting old! -
ARCHIVED Effects Of Sitting On Weigh
gatita replied to plumbago's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Here is some science about sitting and weight gain. Interesting, since I drive 20 hours a week Open Original Shared Link (Hope it's okay to post the link.) -
ARCHIVED Going The Primal Route....
gatita replied to LauraB0927's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Paleo/primal sure sounds interesting, although right now I am starting on the Eat-Clean diet, which allows some grains and starchy carbs. Can any of you share what you eat in a day, ie. your menu plan? I'm curious how people apply this to their real lives. Thanks in advance! -
ARCHIVED Funny Things That Happened To Me Along The Way
gatita replied to Finally-45's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
These are hilarious, thanks! -
I should have followed my original plan to order the grilled salmon after reading all the reviews here. But no -- I'm so stubbon I had to learn for myself. Well, I can add my "yuck" to the penne pomodoro reviews. Why the heck do they cook the pasta till it falls to pieces? The sauce was fine, but the pasta -- blecch. I enjoyed my salad, though, and...

ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
gatita replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made a microwave almond flour spice muffin from a recipe I got off this site, spread with sunflower butter. Used TJ's peanut flour cause that's what I had, and added fresh blueberries. Yum!
