  1. This may sound very weird, but it is a very real problem for some people, and a very scary one. I have a friend here on Long Island who can not feel his feet, and he doesn't know where they are. He has BIG dogs, and while walking them, he has walked out of his shoes and didn't even know it. He has had to backtracked to find his shoes and often times they...
  2. After 8 yrs of gluten free, I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. To be honest, I never thought about sleep apnea. It didn't occur to me that my restless nights, headaches, extreme tireness during the day, etc could be caused by sleep apnea, I kept thinking it was a vitamin problem. I had a neurologist for a year, who was telling me my headaches...
  3. I've told this before, but it's been a while now. At work, I just can't make them understand. One lady was sitting at my desk eating french bread. I asked her to leave my desk, "Why, I'm not dropping anything?" I told her you can't eat bread without dropping crumbs, especially french bread, besides the fact, while eating it she was touching my calculator...
  4. Yes, they can. Neuropathy has so many symptoms, and one person can have very different symptoms from another. Mine are all over the place. Sometimes my feet just ache, sometimes they vibrate like a cell phone, sometimes pins and needles like Meline says...some people complain of very hot feet, some very cold, some numb, and others, super sensitive...I...
  5. Nadz...the feelings you have is exactly what eating sweets, chocolates, sugar does to you. It gives you a high, then slams you to the ground, making you feel you need more. You need to stop eating the goodies and stick to good foods. At first, try eating several small meals a day, instead of 3 bigger meals. Try eating around 100 calories every 2 hours...
  6. Click on "options" and set it to standard, that should fix the problem. That happened to me last week too.
  7. Yes you can. The celiac world is not all figured out yet. There is so much more research they need to do. There are many who feel that gluten intolerance is just the beginning stages of celiac disease, celiac being the final stage, the worst damage. There also are those who will argue this point. I honestly believe it. Gluten does horrible things...
  8. I work for a doctor, I am on the inside looking out. It's the health industry in general, not the doctors causing the problem. It's like others have said, doctors order tests to cover themselves, just to protect themselves. Like with Medicare, the doctor is told what he must charge, it's not up to the doctor, Medicare sets the amount. With HMO's, the...
  9. Hi Aleska, welcome to the forum. I do not share many of your tolerance's even. I do however, share most of your intolerance's. I never had to give up dairy, thankfully. My intolerance's include, all grains, nightshades, cruciferous veggie's, red meat, shellfish, and red dye. For a very long time, I would not give up ricecakes. Then in January of this...
  10. This most definitely is not the answer for the US. Socialized medicine is much worse. You can't get into a doctor for months at a time, they tell you where you can go, just the same...good doctors do not want socialized medicine, they would never beable to get tests done for you. I have heard many Canadians complain about it. Hospitals are not equipped...
  11. Lovegrov, you said it yourself: Which any way you look at it, means they are making the vaccine from the flu virus that was!!! Go back and read my post again, I never said the flu virus was made from viruses from the year before in the United States Please do not put words in my mouth, I said no such thing! I have never had a flu shot, and I do not...
  12. We are all different, some of us do not need a diagnosis, some feel they can't go gluten free unless they are sure. It's whatever you feel is right for you. I have been gluten-free for 8 yrs now, and I never had a diagnosis...no one on God's green earth will ever convince me that I am not a celiac. My sister was diagnosed 4 months before I went gluten...
  13. My dad had the celiac belly, maybe I did too, but I was big everywhere, so it was hard to tell. Before going gluten-free, he got very ill. He went from a strapping man at over 250# down to 139#. I would have much prefered he kept the celiac belly. Now, after a little over 3 yrs of gluten-free (will be 4 yrs in Nov.) he is back up to around 170#. He and...
  14. I have never heard that before, but I totally agree! This very well could be. I know when I get gluten on my skin, I get hives, a burning sensation, sometimes itching. I do believe that shampoo, soaps, etc can get in your mouth while showering, and you can be glutened in that way.
  15. Marcus, so much I read that could factor in. First, before you go totally gluten free, if you want to be tested, you should be eating gluten...go to a doctor and tell them what you suspect. Stop drinking Red Bull, it just makes you crash harder, most energy drinks do that. They give you a zip of energy, and then you slam down to earth. It sounds very...
  16. I agree with those who say NOOOOO!!! Riceguy is correct in stating the flu shots only protect you from the flu that was, not the flu that may be. There are new flu viruses every year, and the flu shot is made from the flu that went around last year. I work for an optometrist and he told me to never get a flu shot. At 52, I never have and I normally...
  17. Yup, I agree with everyone. There are always going to be people who can not fathom what we live through. If only they could walk a mile in our shoes, then they open their eyes. I work in a small office, there is the doctor, the optician, three optometric assistants, and an insurance person. Our insurance person is lactose intolerant, at one time was...
  18. I haven't checked Walmart brands, but I'm betting they will say if they are gluten free or not. Many of the Equate products are nice, and I have noticed that Walmart is listing gluten status on their products. I never felt their shampoo that is similiar to Pantene was any comparison, but then I do not think anything compares to Pantene. I'm sure their...
  19. You have a right to your opinion, yet it's a disservice to newbies to say I am wrong too. There is just as much research out there stating a celiac/gluten intolerant should be TOTALLY gluten free, including topical products! The research you are speaking of is just part of the research. Many doctors also say you must have DQ2 or DQ8 genes to be celiac...
  20. Do you know which genes you have? I have been reading a lot about genes since I found out I have double DQ1 genes. It seems that DQ1 people have many other intolerance's, not just gluten. You have to understand, sometimes the damage to the small intestine is so severe, it allows other foods to leak into the gut, and this is how we develop intolerance...
  21. Sorry Gemini, I think telling a celiac/gluten intolerant it's ok to use gluten containing products, IS erroneous information. You've just been lucky so far, or maybe you just do not know you are reacting to gluten in products. All celiac's should use gluten free products, and, all newbie's should switch to gluten-free free products just for the fact that...
  22. It's a personal preference, I guess. BUT, using gluten free products give you one less thing to worry about. Honestly, why does there need to be gluten in shampoo, conditioner, soaps, etc???? I have to have all my products gluten free. I never had DH, yet my skin reacts to gluten and other grains. Products with oatmeal, make me itch, as does soy, or...
  23. I'm sorry to say, you can not trust www.glutenfreedrugs.com ! I am very disappointed in the fact that they still list Xanax (all forms) as gluten free. It isn't!!! I had to search and search to find a gluten free form of Xanax, and there are only 2 or 3 companies that make it gluten free. Glutenfreedrugs.com still list Pfizer labs as a safe Xanax, and...
  24. Open Original Shared Link This is a link to a discussion about toothpaste in this forum. I use Gleem, and have my whole life. It is becoming hard to come by though. I can't find it in sotres here, but you can still buy it online, so I probably will!!! By the way, I am soy free too.
  25. You will have to watch them constantly. Refuse medication if they can not verify it is gluten free. Make it very well known that you are gluten free. I had a hysterectomy 1 yr ago. After surgery, the doctor wanted me to take some type of vitamin, I don't recall now what it was, but they could not tell me the maker of the vitamin, they had no idea if it...
