ARCHIVED To Date A Celiac
darlindeb25 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks Ken, I like that! Thou shall not eat cookies in a celiac's bed! Well, had to throw that in, even though it was my daughter I last told that too. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Around 60 Years Old Or Older?
darlindeb25 replied to Del's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Home-based-mom, when I stand on the beach, it clears my head. Salt air is wonderful for that, there is nothing more cleansing for your lungs, than the salt air. When I was able to go there every week and walk the beach, my headaches were so much better. I live on the south shore, maybe 3/4 of a mile from the Great South Bay's shoreline--I love a windy... -
ARCHIVED To Date A Celiac
darlindeb25 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Now that's a thought, "The Ten Commandments of Dating a Celiac, Plus a Few", works for me!!! Thou shall not kiss a celiac while eating gluten! Thou shall not drink from the celiac's cup, while eating gluten! -

Oh mushroom, I'm so jealous--I would love your view!!!! Yeah Del, celiac's are nice people. I find all people who suffer diseases are usually very strong and usually very compassionate--we are the stronger people, in many ways! Now--Betty in Texas--we need to help you. It sounds to me, as someone else stated, you have another intolerance that you... -
ARCHIVED 7 Months gluten-free, And Still Have Horrible Ibs!
darlindeb25 replied to 1965kid's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
1965kid--cutting out soy is much easier than it seems. Soy lecithin, sometimes is fine for some people who can't have soy. I can't have soy, but soy lecithin is ok. I can't remember why it's ok, but it is sometimes. I try to stay away from it as much as I can, but I don't fret if I get a little. I still occasionally eat my M&M's. I do stay away... -
Last night, I was talking to a new guy, and trying to explain celiac disease to him. Not the disease specifically, but what it means to the non celiac in a dating situation. He jokingly said to me, "So do you celiac's have a contract for us non-celiac's to sign, a list of rules we need to follow?" Of course, he was teasing, good heartedly, yet, it's a...

ARCHIVED Does Dh Always Equal Celiac?
darlindeb25 replied to GravStars's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Someone else may come along and tell you something else, but I have always been told that if you have DH, you are a celiac. DH is is a definitive symptom of celiac, just some of us do not have that symptom, and never will. I am not sure if my sister and I truly had DH, or just a terrible skin sensitivity, we both had terrible itching on both legs, usually... -
ARCHIVED Newly Labeled
darlindeb25 replied to Sherry Leigh's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I would like to add here: Many celiac's are B12 deficient. Before adding B12 to your diet, it's a good idea to have your B12 level checked. Ask your doctor specifically for a B12 level, not just a blood test. Once you start taking B12, then getting a true level doesn't happen. They can monitor your level, but once you are taking B12, the amount you are... -

I'm not sure which one of you lives in Hawaii and said, you have the ocean all the time! I live on the east coast, on Long Island, I too have the ocean all the time, and I never tire of it. I wish I had a home overlooking the ocean, I just love living here. I swear I was a mermaid in another life! My mother has always hated water, my daughter hates water... -
ARCHIVED Scared
darlindeb25 replied to mcs1984's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Eat whole foods--junk foods are very expensive anyways. Potatoes, chicken, rice--all very inexpensive. Potato chips, Lays Regular, made in Plano, Texas are gluten free, your son will probably like those. Veggies are good for us all, frozen are usually a decent price and much better for you than canned, yet you can usually get canned veggies on sale at... -
ARCHIVED Lotions And Body Products
darlindeb25 replied to Celiacgirl4GOD's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Now me, I am one of those celiac's who can not have oats either. If I use a lotion or soap with oats in it, I break out in hives. Try a little, and see what happens. If you have no reaction, then it's wonderful. If it worries you, then see if you can exchange it for an oat free lotion. -

Ooops, sorry, I thought I read that you were having a grandchild too. I think I did congratulate Ken before, but if not--how wonderful for you Ken!!!! I guess I am one of the strange one's here, I have never had a desire to go to Vegas. There are a lot of great places I would love to see in the US, but Vegas has never been one. Too busy for me, and... -

ARCHIVED Gas Prices---geez
darlindeb25 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yeah, here on the East Coast, it's up to $4.19-4.35 a gallon too--they are saying average on the island is $4.15. Yesterday, they said there were 260,000 people at Jones Beach, over 400,000 Sat and Sun, a record breaker, just because of the gas prices and people not leaving the island. I wanted to take my daughter to Fire Island today, I'm thinking maybe... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Around 60 Years Old Or Older?
darlindeb25 replied to Del's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm 52, 53 in Sept. I am self-diagnosed, been gluten free for 8 yrs in July. My sister was diagnosed that same year in March, and since I had no insurance, and no money, we both decided I should go gluten free too, since I was so sick. When I was still married and had insurance, I had seen doctors, that naturally, never did diagnosed celiac. By the time... -
ARCHIVED Thoroughly Confused
darlindeb25 replied to jbuckeye's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is what I found in another forum, I think back in March--I truly believe this to be true. Scientist just do not know yet what genes truly do cause celiac, they only know a few, not all: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED I'm A Weird Celiac - Gained Weight?
darlindeb25 replied to jparsick84's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was reading something from the Celiac Disease Center the other day and it listed the symptoms of celiac disease. One of the symptoms were: severe weight loss or gain! I thought, well, it's about time they included those of us who gain a substantial amount of weight. I mean, how many overweight people are told by a doctor, "You don't look like a celiac... -
ARCHIVED Mcdonald's Ice Cream
darlindeb25 replied to FoxersArtist's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
McDonald's vanilla ice cream is gluten free--vanilla ice cream usually is gluten-free. You need to always ask to have it in a cup, not the cone. I used to eat their ice cream in a cup--the only reason I do not now, is because I do not eat ice cream anymore. Open Original Shared Link -
It never fails to amaze me, how people who are with you everyday, just don't get it!!!! When you think about it, you are with the people you work with, almost as much as family. Yesterday, I walk into our lab (the optician's lab) and there is a jar of Wheat Germ sitting there, and a bag of Organic Pretzels. Why? He tells me he doesn't know why the Wheat...

ARCHIVED Chemical Sensitivities?
darlindeb25 replied to holiday16's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Last weekend, my daughter and I had gone shopping. On the trip home, we passed a church school that had a carnival going on. A big carnival with amusement rides, the whole works. All of a sudden this horrible scent hit me, and I could hardly catch my breath. Holly asked if she should shut the window, to which I finally said, "No, the scent will be trapped... -

1) called a hypochondriac by close family/friends/loved ones? By all of them?I don't believe anyone has called me a hypochondriac, because most of the time, a hypocrondriac also wants meds, and I never wanted to take meds for anything. My grandmother, on my mom's side, and my aunts were often called this, they always had what you had, and worse. I was never... -
ARCHIVED I Hope This Does Not Come Off As A Dumb Question..
darlindeb25 replied to MCKMNL's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was told once--there are no dumb questions, only stupid answers!!!! With that out of the way--hehe How long have you been gluten free? You have to give your body time to heal too. It does sound like you should give up dairy for a time. Folgers Decaf is gluten free, I drink it myself!!! No one can take my coffee away!!!! Many of us have neurological... -
This is another tough one--well meaning family members!!! They want to help, they say they have cooked something gluten free for you, and maybe they have. BUT, they do not understand cross contamination. They may make you gluten free pasta, but they will stir it with the same spoon as their own pasta!!! They just do not understand!!! When you get sick...
