  1. Oats may be gluten free, yet many celiacs can not tolerate them. And yes, they do have a cross contamination issue too. You have to buy oats that specifically state they are grown and processed separately from wheat. Oats made me sick long before I knew about gluten, so I can't have them anyways. Was funny though, I could eat oatmeal for breakfast...
  2. Yeah, I can't have them, I can't have soy. Soy lecithin is ok, but soy flour is out. I knew it would be something I couldn't have.
  3. Waht are vanilla waffle's made of?
  4. Ok, I will give up my Quaker Ricecakes, but, I will put my peanut butter on an apple before I will buy another brand of ricecake. I have never found a ricecake that can compare to Quaker. A few store brands are ok, but they fall apart the minute you touch them, if I can't spread peanut butter on them, then I don't want them anyways. I only want them for...
  5. I have eaten Quaker Rice Cakes for almost 8 yrs and have never been glutened by them. I react to the tiniest amout of gluten too and have never had a problem with Quaker. I think the statement they give is a CYA statement. I only eat one type, the Caramel Corn brand. I find the Lundberg Ricecakes disgusting. I have tried them several times and have...
  6. I think it's ridiculous for a doctor to tell a patient they have celiac, but it's dormant. More or less, that is what they are saying when they say "latent". I have a friend who son is sick, and his doctor's told her that he has latent celiac and to keep him as gluten free as possible for now. I think that is terrible. The child needs to be totally gluten...
  7. If I am reading your post correctly, it sounds like you were doing well until 5 days ago. Then you ate something that caused a reaction. Now you are having a difficult time getting over that reaction. Sometimes, when it takes time getting over a reaction, we get depressed, I know the feeling. I was glutened by a medication in January and I am still trying...
  8. Ok, yes, my point was: This person running his hands through the flour with no glove on was disgusting. We don't know where that hand was, he had no business putting his hand in that flour without a glove on, be it wheat flour, or a gluten free flour. We have no idea what has been in any of the food we buy before we buy it and we probably do not want to...
  9. This statement in itself is nuts! McDonalds does serve many millions per day, but not in any one restuarant, the millions is in all of their restuarants. We have the same risk of contamination in any restuarant as we do in MickyD's. The risk comes from the people we must trust, who are handling the food, not the place in which we are eating. I find it...
  10. Well, I guess I am about as east coast as you can get here on Long Island and I am very disappointed in Trader Joe's. The gluten free items are very few and far apart here in our stores. I am not sure how many stores there are on the island, I have been to 2 different one's, on ein Commack and one in the Smithtown area, over that way anyways. The Commack...
  11. I'm wondering if they are 2 separate things, just holding hands. I have gotten carsick my whole life. My mom said I would get carsick as a small child and I still do sometimes. I never ride in the backseat and it is best if I am the one driving, especially to an event. I think on the way to an event, I also have some anxiety that joins the mix. I have...
  12. Thank you Deb, this has been happening to me for months and I was told it's my computer and I know it's not. It does not happen to me in any other forum, never! Only here--it has to be a glitch here. I used to stay signed in to this forum for months at a time and never have a problem, now I can't stay signed in for one entire session. I find the same...
  13. First, I would like to address something I just read from Morrisum--please do not put your trust in Pfizer, they lie to their patients. Pfizer's hides facts about gluten and I am surprised you haven;t heard that already, I will never trust Pfizer again. For years they told us that Xanax was gluten free, the last time I checked, it was still on the www.glutenfreedrugs...
  14. I think the cross contamination factor in these cereal factories has to be considered. Even if they claim there is no gluten in a product, cross contamination will always be a factor. I did read the ingredients of Trix and I am not seeing any gluten. Do you by any chance react to corn? Or rice? I personally would stick with the companies that make gluten...
  15. I ran out around 10:30 and it was beautiful, then I ran out several times to check on it. It was too cold to stand outside and watch and I do not have windows to watch from. The last time I ran out, it was over ! What I did see, was beautiful!
  16. I tried it 4 yrs ago. I am Type A and it says: Well, most of this is true, except, I can tolerate dairy. I did try to give it up and switched to soy. I even liked the 8th Continent Vanilla Soymilk, but, it wasn't long before I realized I was soy intolerant!!! So, I went back to my dairy, I have always preferred veggies, I do stay away from animal...
  17. This is from WebMD: That being said, it is nothing like DH. My daughter got shingles when she was 15 from stress. She was taking driver's training and had a totally obnoxious teacher. This teacher would tell the kids to do something such as driving up and off ramp, then as they did it, he would scream at them for going the wrong way--which they really...
  18. Well, it's not just emails. Yahoo is the worst messenger for letting these spammers in. I never have this problem in MSN or AOL. I get these guys all the time IMing me in yahoo, they think I am so beautiful, they are looking for a woman just like me, they are recently divorced, always have 1 son, who usually is a teenager, and 9 times out of 10, they are...
  19. When I think back, my sister and I both had terrible bouts with itching. We didn't really have any open sores that could be considered DH though. Our itching was pretty much contained on our legs. It happened generally after bathing, and we could always expect it to be extremely irratating in the evening. I'm sure it was connected to celiac disease in...
  20. Thank you for informing us. I have been trying to find one in the stores, I have been craving one and I probably would not have read the ingredients, just as your guy didn't. I love those--well, I don't need them anyways!!!! I am still suffering the effects of being glutened by the AZO Standard, that I was told was gluten free, I am so happy I never...
  21. Come on people, we're talking about Martha Stewart--she's been ripping people off for years. Why do you think she went to prison? It's not about what makes us happy, it's about what makes Martha's pockets happy! This is just another one of her attention getting ploys and we fell for it. My celiac support group sent this email out to all of us last night...
  22. You know, I kind of had this discussion last night, or a similiar one. I said I have to stop resenting celiac disease, it's going to be with me for the rest of my life! I have been gluten free now for over 7 1/2 yrs. In the beginning, it was wonderful, I had my life back! I didn't have to worry about having a stomachache every night, the diarrhea was...
  23. Thanks Gemini--I wrote those tests down and I will definitely keep those in mind for the next doctor appt. My dry eye has been driving me nuts as of late, I think the winter months are the hardest, especially with the heat on. I will not discuss this with the doc I work for, he doesn't even think my dry eye is autoimmune to begin with, so I think it's a...
  24. You are very lucky to not have joint pain, I'm happy for you. My hips were very bad before going gluten free, sometimes they are ok now, sometimes they aren't. I also am dealing with neuropathy though. I have very dry skin too--you certainly have me thinking now. My Raynauds did calm down considerably for a long time, but this winter it has come back...
  25. Gemini--honest, I do not know where I have been, I have never read this before, if you posted it, I must have missed it, I am sorry. For years and years I have had trouble swollowing bread and meats, sometimes to the point of not being able to breathe. Like I said, the doc I work for, who also is my eye doctor, will not even admit to my dry eye being autoimmune...
