ARCHIVED My Metabolism Stinks!
darlindeb25 replied to cmichelle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Cmichelle, you can get decent exercise in your own home too. I Tony Little's Gazelle, it's very easy on your joints, and you can go at your own speed. It's a glider, I do not own his top of the line gazelle, I probably own the bottom of the line, and it works great for me. I have neuropathy, so some days, it's harder to be motivated, but I do it. I can... -
ARCHIVED Questions About Current Medications I'm Taking
darlindeb25 replied to Dolcenotte's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree Deb. glutenfreedrugs.com is still listing Xanax from Pfizer as gluten free and Pfizer itself will tell you it isn't gluten-free, just as it's generic company, Greenstone, I think it is, isn't gluten-free either. So, I have to wonder too. That listing is only as good as the person updating it. As far as I am concerned, you have to get the 800#... -
ARCHIVED Can I Eat Oats?
darlindeb25 replied to mtkd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If I were you, I wouldn't. Especially since you are just going gluten free. Many celiac's can't tolerate oats. It's true, they do not contain gluten, but they usually are contaminated by gluten in processing and will make you sick. If you do eat them, you have to buy special oats that are guaranteed gluten free and they are very expensive. Like I already... -
ARCHIVED My Metabolism Stinks!
darlindeb25 replied to cmichelle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, I am speaking of sweeteners, like Equal, Splenda, and the like. I never use Stevia because I do not like the taste. I never found anything sweet about it, I always felt it was bitter. It's a taste you have to learn to like, and I never learned to like it. As for coffee, I am not addicted, I just love coffee. When I went caffeine free, it didn... -
ARCHIVED My Metabolism Stinks!
darlindeb25 replied to cmichelle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sometimes, it's the adrenal glands, and not the thyroid that is the problem. My metabolism just seemed to die. When I didn't know about celiac disease, I gianed weight, when I am malnorished, I gain. Gluten does not normally make me lose, it makes me gain. My sister loses, go figure! So, when I start gaining, I know something is wrong with my system... -
Gluten-Free Shampoo/Hair Products
darlindeb25 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I still swear by my Pantene. I get remarks about how pretty my hair is all the time. How thick and shiny it is, how good it smells! I must be doing something right. I have used Garnier too, but much prefer Pantene. I was told Dove is just as good, but I really do not agree. Aussie products are good too, their 3 Minute Miracle Conditioner is great. -
ARCHIVED Oat Is Gluten Free
darlindeb25 replied to mdmm's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oats themself are gluten free, but are usually contaminated by wheat in the processing. Most oats in the US are grown next to wheat fields, they are processed in the same plants as wheat and the cross contamination is nearly 100%. Plus, many celiac's are intolerant to oats too. Here is a link you can read in this forum: https://www.celiac.com/categories... -
ARCHIVED Vitamins
darlindeb25 replied to roxie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Be very careful with B6, you can take too much B6 and it will do more harm than good. It can cause more pain. Read up on it before adding it to your diet. B12 is very important to most celiac's. I read, not to long ago. our biggest source of B12 comes from grains, mostly from wheat. So, yeah, I'm pretty sure we all need B12. Methycobalamin is the... -
ARCHIVED What Types Of Reactions Do You Get When You're Glutened?
darlindeb25 replied to blondebombshell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Larry, there is a big difference between accidental glutening and cheating on purpose. Having celiac disease is very serious and should not be joked about. Many of us went years without a diagnosis and have several other auto-immune diseases on top of celiac disease because of those mis-diagnosis's. If you cheat, then I feel you get what you... -
ARCHIVED How Can I Show That I Take Notice
darlindeb25 replied to nikky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ok Nikky, If you are researching online, sit down at the computer with your mom and show her what you have been looking at. Show her what you have bookmarked, show her anything you have printed. Help her to believe that you are taking this seriously, that's all she wants. She just needs to know in her heart that you really are serious, unless you help... -

ARCHIVED Now What?
darlindeb25 replied to geo62's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Maybe another intolerance has reared it's ugly head now. Some nightshades give me diarrhea, such as tomatoes. They make me very ill, within a very short time! I too, had been gluten free for around 3 years when my next intolerance showed itself, which was soy. -
ARCHIVED What's With The Coffee?
darlindeb25 replied to Mera's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well, this just isn't true. As everyone keeps stating, with the new labeling laws, they just couldn't do that without telling us. The instant coffee's are 100% coffee, just the same as the regular coffee's, the decaf's are just decaf, the same as regular decaf. I have been gluten free for almost 8 yrs and have only been glutened once by coffee. A gas... -
ARCHIVED Wanted To Take A Second To Introduce My New Grandson
darlindeb25 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Trevor finally came home last night at 10:30, with his special blankey for babies with high bilirubin levels. He did go back this morning for another testing of his bilirubin levels, but at 1:30 this afternoon, they had not heard from the hospital yet about his levels, they were back home by then. Things will get normal now, with Trevor at home, as normal... -
ARCHIVED Wanted To Take A Second To Introduce My New Grandson
darlindeb25 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thank you everyone. Trevor is a preemie, so did have a few glitches. His parents have been a little upset that he hasn't been released as quickly as they thought. He developed jaundice and had to stay under the special lights. His biliruben level had shot up to 13 and he had to be under 3 lights, he looked like he was in a tanning bed! Last night the... -

Spelt is not wheat, but it is not gluten free either. I found this in About.com. -
ARCHIVED Wanted To Take A Second To Introduce My New Grandson
darlindeb25 posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am never sure how to get pics in some of these forums, so he can be my avatar for a while. The Easter Bunny brought Trevor Jacob to us a little early. He was born at 10:45pm Sat March 22, 2008. He was due on April 16th, so he is just a little early. He weighs 5#11ozs and is 18" long, and thankfully, very healthy. The look on his little face says it... -

ARCHIVED If I've Been Gluten-free For Five Days...
darlindeb25 replied to nikki2008's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I do not necessarily agree with staying away from dairy, not unless you always did have problems with dairy. Some celiac's do have trouble with dairy, but not all. I did very well with dairy, as did my sister, and our dad--so staying away from dairy is not always true for all celiac's. It's a personal choice. Some do have problems, some do not. Open... -

darlindeb25 replied to nikki2008's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The yogurt might be ok, make sure you have a gluten free brand--probiotics are too much for me. I would not try sardines and salmon yet--freash salmon, maybe, but not sardines. Not sure about the eggs either, egg whites are usually very mild, the yolks are harder to digest. You really need to keep things simple. I never had a problem with dairy, so in... -
ARCHIVED E Mail From Bayer Reguarding Aleve
darlindeb25 replied to newgirl88's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Me too. As I stated above, I use Aleve. I have been taking it for the last week with no ill side effects, although, I have never taken the gel cap. I have neuropathy and sometimes need to take something for pain, I can't be afraid to take something for relief. I have always used Tylenol too. I have Tylenol for Arthritis in my cabinet now and use it often... -

darlindeb25 replied to nikki2008's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nikki, It took a long time for you to get this sick, it will take some time for all of your symptoms to go away. The fact that you know you are doing better proves to you that you are doing the right thing. Your energy has definitely improved, that's great! The dark circles will remain for a long time. You probably will have to take a good multiple... -
You can be pre-diabetic and not be diabetic. I think being gluten intolerant is simply being, pre celiac. When you are pre-diabetic, you have to adjust your diet, or soon you will be diabetic. When you are gluten intolerant, you have to be gluten free, or, in time, you will have full blown celiac disease too. That is my belief. I think celiac disease...

ARCHIVED Werther's Original Hard Candy
darlindeb25 replied to 2Boys4Me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have not read the package in the last few months, but I do know, they did change the ingredients and included wheat. That's when I quit keeping them in my desk for that occasional throat tickle. I was very disappointed when they changed the ingredients. This is their statement as of July 07:
