ARCHIVED Itchy Skin After Physical Contact With Gluten
darlindeb25 replied to Chiron's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I join the ranks of those who cannot have gluten on my skin. I wasn't like this as a child, but as the years go by, I get worse and worse. The longer I am gluten free, going on 8 yrs now, the more reactive I become. I pay close attention to any lotions, soaps, etc, watching for grains of any kind now. Another poster had asked St. Ives about their... -
ARCHIVED Hershey's Chocolate
darlindeb25 replied to campcour's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Excuse me--things have changed within the company and things have already started changing. Many celiacs are already complaining. I can't find the link I wanted to post about Hershey closing plants here in the US, and putting people out of work, one plant alone was over 600, which is a bad thing. I find that one good reason to stop supporting them. -
ARCHIVED Airborne Eposure And Contamination
darlindeb25 replied to Dennis wayne's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You certainly can inhale flour. It can get on your hands, then on your food. It can be on your clothes, then on your counters, then on your food. That's why it's called cross contamination. Sometimes, we breathe through our mouth too, then you actually will be breathing it straight onto your tongue and swallowing it. The person at your meeting gave you... -
ARCHIVED Hershey's Chocolate
darlindeb25 replied to campcour's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hershey's has recently changed hands and moved some of the company out of the USA, so I don't think I would be so trusting anymore. Just as so many of us found with our Cadbury Eggs, they were gluten free for so many years, now they contain gluten. The single egg has such tiny wording on it, I would not beable to read it, and thankfully, I read here about... -
ARCHIVED E Mail From Bayer Reguarding Aleve
darlindeb25 replied to newgirl88's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do not believe I have ever used the gel caps, but I use the caplets all the time and I know for a fact, they are gluten free. Aleve is wonderful, I do only use it for 2 or 3 weeks at a time, 2 times a day, then I take a break from it. I also use Advil, Tylenol, Excedrin Migraine, Excedrin Tension (I just found I can't use this anymore because I break... -
ARCHIVED Medication Used To Soothe Glutening Symptoms
darlindeb25 replied to Gentleheart's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Xanax does have a gluten free form. You just have to call the pharmacutical labs and check for the gluten free status of the drug. I finally found a generic Xanax (Alprazolam) made by Mylan Labs, which is gluten free. I did make many calls until I found it. Then, of course, you have to call the pharmacies to find one that carries this generic, but it... -
ARCHIVED Synopsis Of My Last Four Days Casein Free.
darlindeb25 replied to Woolygimp's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can tell you that after wheat, rye, barley, and oats, soy is the next in line. Many celiacs can not tolerate soy either. I am betting as time goes by, we will fine there is a level of celiac by grains. The original 3, then 4, and eventually all grain intolerant. I do not tolerate any grains. My mom will say to me, "Soy is not gluten, you can have it... -
Honestly, I dont think it matters. ARCHIVED 7 Additional Gene Regions Implicated In Celiac Disease
darlindeb25 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was wondering if anyone else had seen this yet? I had posted it inside another thread, but thought maybe it might deserve it's own thread, just for the reading, instead of being buried inside of another. I think it's very interesting that they are finding more genes causing celiac than previously thought--an idea I always did think possible! Open Original... -
ARCHIVED If Gluten Free Works Why Be Diagnosed?
darlindeb25 replied to ruthykins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sometimes I wonder. Sometimes, it seems that those of us that do have an official diagnosis of celiac are just the ones who were lucky enough to find the right doctor, at the right time, or maybe just happened to have the doctor find the right spot at the right time during an endoscopy--just happens the odds were on their side at the time. There are so... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
darlindeb25 replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I just finished Chapter 9 and now I remember why I didn't agree with Elaine Gottschall the first time I read this book. She lied to people, she gives people false hope. In Chapter 9 she says: To begin with, celiac disease, diverticulitis, nor crohn's for that matter, can be cured--false information to anyone reading her book. They can go into a remission... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
darlindeb25 replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
For now, I am going to keep reading the book. I just don't know if I can give up my dairy. Let me finish the book and see what I think. -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?
darlindeb25 replied to ruthykins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you had any tests done? Seen a doctor at all? Do you want to be tested? Not much to go on here. It does sound like you do have symptoms that could be a gluten intolerance. If you want to know though, you shouldn't go gluten free before being tested. Once you are gluten free, the testing will come back negative. -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
darlindeb25 replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well, I'm reading the book, but I actually am having a very difficult time thinking about giving up my dairy. I have been gluten free for almost 8 yrs and dairy is the one thing I have not had to give up. It has never given me a problem. When I first went gluten free, cottage cheese and fruit were my staples and I did very well. I have continued to do... -

Are you both new to the gluten free diet too? -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
darlindeb25 replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I was wondering what all of you are eating? Do you have to give up dairy all together if it doesn't bother you? I want to give this a chance, but I am not understanding everything yet. The only book I could find at the library was "Breaking the Vicious Cycle", is that the one you have? -
ARCHIVED Who Else Can't Eat Any Grains At All (even Gluten Free)?
darlindeb25 replied to Yenni's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Finally, after all this time, this makes sense to me. I want to thank Ali for bringing some new thoughts to the board. I read Eileen Gottschall book several years back and walked away from it, thinking it a crazy concept, but I wasn't in the shape then, that I am now. This makes so much sense to me: Anne Lee, one of Dr. Green's nutritionist's told... -
ARCHIVED Do Eye Problems Go Along With Celiac?
darlindeb25 replied to JulesH's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Petemoss, you have to understand, everything can not be blamed on celiac disease. There may be something going on with your eyes that has nothing to do with your celiac disease. Some people have terrible night vision, my night vision is getting worse. I am 52, it happens. Go to an optometrist and get an eye exam. Don't just assume celiac disease is... -
ARCHIVED "latent" Celiac Disease...?
darlindeb25 replied to Lux's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have heard of "latent celiac" before and I truly feel a doctor is doing the patient wrong by telling them not to worry because it's just "latent celiac"! My friend was told her son has latent celiac and not to worry about him yet! Just keep him as gluten free as possible, but that he may not be full blown celiac for maybe 10 yrs. Now to me, that is the... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Any Of The Antioxidant Juices Out There?
darlindeb25 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry, you don't need to answer this if you don't want too. In an internet search about the gluten free status of Mona.Vie, I found another thread in this forum about it. Funny I never saw it before. Probably because it was when I was getting logged out all the time and would lose the new threads. -
Our celiac support group had one a while back at one of our meetings--it really sounded interesting--some kind of a berry, goja berry or something. They are all becoming very popular and people do swear by how much better they feel. A friend just told me about Mona.Vie and I have been reading about it. This one has 19 different fruits with the acai...

ARCHIVED Potato/ Nightshade Intolerance
darlindeb25 replied to covsooze's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well, I do not have the patience to read 29 pages of an old thread, I am sure I posted there, but not going to look! Anyways, tomatoes effect me within an hour--stomach cramps, followed by diarrhea, and I have found, it doesn't matter what form the tomatoes are in, ketchup, fresh, stewed, sauce--just can't have them. I know it sounds weird, but there... -
ARCHIVED Who Else Can't Eat Any Grains At All (even Gluten Free)?
darlindeb25 replied to Yenni's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I hear everyone of you and I feel for you. I keep saying, I just want to be a normal celiac. Other celiac's will say, "What's a normal celiac?" I would be so happy to just have to give up gluten! Giving up gluten was so easy for me! Giving up everything else has been so much harder and I resent it. More so at different times of the year. I miss food... -
ARCHIVED Do Eye Problems Go Along With Celiac?
darlindeb25 replied to JulesH's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I want to add here though--never take anything with your eyes for granted! Don't think--I must have been glutened because my eyes are blurry just because it happens to someone else. Bellyfat knows this happens and is aware of it from past experience. The other day, we had a patient come in for a regular exam. The doc asked her if she was prone to... -
ARCHIVED Guess What Guys!
darlindeb25 replied to KaitiUSA's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Well, I'm glad Kaiti finally told all of you!!! I think the move was a very big step in her life, then throwing in getting married too--WOW. I wish you both the best of luck!!!! Keep in touch.
