ARCHIVED Neurological Symptoms
darlindeb25 replied to glutenfreewithease's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Glutenfreewithease--find a new neuro. Your neuro does not seem to be understanding the celiac connection. There are neuro's who do not get it, I had one. He did diagnose my neuropathy in my arms and hands, now my legs and feet, which is why I went, he says I do not have neuropathy. When I questioned him about small fiber neuropathy, he says, "Well yes... -
Happygirl...great find! Thing is, the naysayers never believe anything "they" do not want to believe. They also know more than all of us. Some people just do not react to the same things as others. Maybe their reactions are not nearly as strong as they think they are. I do not get sick by walking pass a bakery, but the odors do make me feel ill...

If you have the coverage, then get tested. Do some research and go to the doctor knowing which test need to be done. SOme doctos do not have any idea. If you get a negative, then go gluten free anyways and see what happens. A gluten free diet can not hurt anyone, and it may be the answer to your problems. Good luck!

ARCHIVED It's Not The End Of The World.
darlindeb25 replied to lsmall05's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I take no medication. My first neurologist thought my headaches were from the pain in my neck...he said I was not getting enough sleep because of the pain, so he prescribed Topamax. I took it just as he said, I increased it when he said. I finally got an appt with the neuro I really wanted to see, he says, "Stop the Topamax, it isn't doing anything for... -
ARCHIVED Infertility Because Of No Soy?
darlindeb25 replied to Lockheed's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I agree with lonewolf, I do not recommend soy for anyone. It's all hype when they say soy is so good for menopausal women. I do not have an estrogen problem, nor do I have a problem with calcium. I had a bone density test done in Oct, I'm doing good. I am now almost 53, went into menopause at 42, was over that hump at 49, had a hysterectomy for unrelated... -
ARCHIVED It's Not The End Of The World.
darlindeb25 replied to lsmall05's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry Eric, I think I missed your first post. When you are the celiac like me, sometimes you get defensive. It's very rare, but there are times I sit down and ask, "Why me?" The worst time of the year is coming up, for me anyways. When the holidays come in, and they advertise all the great holiday foods on tv, I get very depressed. I miss mashed... -
ARCHIVED Krogers Mislabeled Ice Cream- Warning
darlindeb25 replied to ptkds's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know it sounds weird, but barley never caused a bad reaction in me either. I never intentionally ate it, but a long time ago, Quaker had these ricecakes called Cracker Jack. They probably still do. Anyways, at the time, unbeknowst to me, they had 2 different Cracker Jacks. I knew the Cracker Jacks ricecakes were gluten-free, but I didn't realize there... -
ARCHIVED Do I Really Need To Know What I Have?
darlindeb25 replied to one more mile's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm with Fiddle-Faddle.....I too believe that gluten intolerance is the early stages of celiac disease. I also believe that one day, the scientist's will finally realize this too. She is also correct in telling you that many celiac's gain weight before going gluten free. Many malnourished people gain instead of becoming a stick person. I have not been... -
ARCHIVED It's Not The End Of The World.
darlindeb25 replied to lsmall05's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ok, that very well could be the truth for you. For me, going gluten free stopped the constant diarrhea, the panic attacks calmed considerably, and I lost 60#. I am one of the people, who when malabsorption hits, I gain weight. I felt much better, had my life back again. Then 3 yrs into being gluten free, the soy intolerance reared it's ugly head, 6 months... -
ARCHIVED It's Not The End Of The World.
darlindeb25 replied to lsmall05's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well Eric, if you were the original poster, then you were being mean, intention or not! Quite frankly, your posts sounds very defensive, unlike the rest of us. We face this everyday too, and how we handle it, is just as individual as how you handle it. If someone here has a symptom they do not understand, then they have every right to ask about it, and... -
ARCHIVED Finally Am Feeling Better Again And Thinking About Cutting Out Even Gluten Free Substitutes.
darlindeb25 replied to Pyro's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yup, me too. I tell newbies to try and stay away from the gluten free treats, at least until their tummy's have had time to heal. Some of these treats are just too much for some of us to endure. To begin with, many of the gluten-free flours are so heavy, they hit my tummy like a rock. I think eating all natural foods, naturally free of gluten is much... -
ARCHIVED Dentist-what Do I Do To Convince Him?
darlindeb25 replied to hannahsue01's topic in Doctors
I thought I would bump this up for some of you who have not read it yet. I think I missed this thread before. I have known for a long time that bad enamel is a symptom of celiac disease...I didn't realize a mouth full of cavities was! As a teenager, I had a dentist chastise me because of all of my cavitives. He told me I wasn't brushing my teeth properly... -
ARCHIVED Can You Self Test With Iodine?
darlindeb25 replied to BarbaQ's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I'm not sure why you would think testing for iodine deficiency would mean your child has celiac disease. I thought that test was for hypothyrodism. I don't know if it's a safe test for a child. You dab a 2" circle of iodine on soft skin, such as the inside of your leg, or your upper arm, and if the iodine is absorbed in less then an hour, then you are... -
ARCHIVED Is It Ok If Ii Have Some Gluten Just For A Week Or On Special Occasions?
darlindeb25 replied to roos's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Roos---NO, you should not eat gluten for a week. You will enjoy this vacation so much more gluten free. ANother thought, sometimes after we are gluten free, our gluten reactions change. What if now you get diarrhea, and can't go out??? Stay gluten free for you health. -
Some of us can't have oats, it's a known fact. There is a protein in oats called avenin, and some of us are intolerant of it. Oats bothered me long before I knew about gluten, but then they probably were comtaminated too. I can't eat any grains anymore and have no plans on trying oats again. I do know I react to oats in lotions and soaps too.

ARCHIVED Vitamins
darlindeb25 replied to Meleficent's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I too, take Nature Made multi's. There are many vitamin companies that list the gluten status on their bottles now. You can also order from Lame Advertisement.com, they tell if the product is gluten free, I use Country Life vitamins from Lame Advertisement, some CVS vitamins are gluten free: type "gluten free vitamins" in your browser and see what you... -
ARCHIVED Is This Safe
darlindeb25 replied to sandycb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I did get into the website for this product, but I could not get an ingredients list to come up. If it says "whole grain" and it lists wheat as the grain, it is NOT SAFE!!! As long as a product says "wheat" anywhere in the ingredients, then you shouldn't trust it. From what I read, it's lower in sugar, that's all. -
ARCHIVED It's Not The End Of The World.
darlindeb25 replied to lsmall05's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Having celiac isn't the end of the world...finding out we have it, is a new beginning for many of us. Some of us get very ill, and to be honest, we are the lucky ones! We DO NOT feel ignorance is bliss, we definitely do not eat gluten for the best reason...we want to live a long life. I would much prefer knowing I was glutened over not realizing it! ... -
When I think back now, I realize this disease was in control of me for years before I even knew it. My mom told me I always got carsick as a small child, they always had to take extra clothes for me. Meatloaf always made me sick, my mom makes it with oatmeal. Any deserts with oatmeal and flour made me ill. I was prone to tummyaches. I always had aches...

ARCHIVED I Am New And Have A Question.
darlindeb25 replied to Kauk's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Rebecca, are you in the US? With the new allergen laws, the allergens must be listed on the label. Modified food starch is said to be ok now, what you are reading is info we used to live by. I too, worry about it though, and usually stay away from items that say "food starch"! Modified corn starch is fine, as long as you are not intolerant of corn, it... -
It could be you are eating something that causes an allergic reaction, or it could be an infection in your eyes. Not everything is celiac related. I work for an optmetrist and we see things like this all the time...so far I have only met a few celiac's in my office. call for an appointment with your eye doctor, tell him/her your eyes are swelling shut...

ARCHIVED Need Opinions
darlindeb25 replied to SAHM2one's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your symptoms fit, it's great you have been tested, you will soon know for sure. Celiac's are foten diagnosed with several other issues before the link to celiac is even thought about. I wish they would think of it first, rule it out, then go on...that would make things so much easier. Good luck with your tests! -
ARCHIVED How Gluten Free Is Your Home?
darlindeb25 replied to Merika's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your remark is totally uncalled for. Gfp is simply stating facts, and honestly, the facts are correct. I do not feel the way I do because of self doubt or mild paranoia. I have been gluten-free for over 8 yrs now, and it's very easy for another to CC me, even when they think they are being careful. Sometimes the CC takes a while for us to realize. My... -
ARCHIVED Calling Deb Of Long Island
darlindeb25 replied to MyMississippi's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Nope, I didnt think that, I was trying to relieve your mind!!! Their first thoughts are MS, and personally, I don't think they need to worry us by saying that's what they are looking for, tell us after the fact, saves on worry time!! I love storms too, not hurricanes, but thunderstorms. Love to watch them, always have since I was little. Good...
