  1. I am pretty sensitive, but am often surprised when I eat something I think is questionable (simply because it was prepared by someone I can't interrogate) and I'm fine. I think it's just as likely that the guac was spoiled as it was tainted by cross contamination. Maybe even more so. However, your GI symptoms go along with gluten issues. My sister...
  2. It took me a very long time to feel energy return as well. Before going gluten free, even though I had so many chronic and annoying issues from the undiagnosed gut damage, I hadn't been sick in years. Seriously- no common cold for about 3 years. After going gluten free, I caught every thing that I came in contact with for about a year. I took 4 rounds...
  3. I wouldn't recommend drinking fro the wine goblet. I used to dip my host into the wine... Maybe that was a progressive Catholic church? But, I would follow Kareng's advice and talk to the priest about your own cup or make sure you're first in line (but maybe still talk to the priest so he knows what's going on).
  4. Thanks Irish Heart and Lisa, I am trying not to get all obsessive about this. I have been eating only low histamine foods exclusively for 2 weeks and plan on at least 2 more before I go exploring. I was so discouraged when I made a bang-up shepherd's pie (I am definitely a better cook after 2 weeks!) that actually tasted good and I broke out the next day...
  5. Very good point! Wine, cheese, and strawberries all trump left overs!! I will freeze my food. end of discussion. Thanks for all the information!! I will look into all of your suggestions.
  6. For those of you dealing with MCAS already, I was hoping you could answer a couple questions. I thought about making a new thread, but this is a celiac support site, plus this thread was still arguably recent... I was wondering what brands of Quercetin/DAO supplements people are taking that are gluten-free and safe for us. I've done a bit of research...
  7. I know that your son has special circumstances, but wanted to let you know that I was extremely fatigued at the very beginning of my gluten free diet. I once had an internal injury (partially collapsed lung) and the fatigue was similar to that. I imagine that once the gluten was out, my body put all of its energy into healing my gut. At about 6 months...
  8. Oh no- The link is broken! And I was looking forward to getting my panties in a bunch The level of knowledge I'm inferring from the direct quotes is exactly why I tell anyone in a restaurant that "I have a gluten allergy" and "I'm not the trendy kind of gluten-free, just a speck will make me sick". I did eat in one completely gluten-free restaurant...
  9. Let me know how the SCD goes! I looked into that a while back in the middle of a desperate night, but I just couldn't commit because the two guys are such "salesmen". I was wary of the commercial aspect of it. But the foods that bother me the least at this point are the foods they say to start with- so maybe they know what they're doing There are...
  10. Thank you all! Especially for the tip on the up and up product. I love it when things are actually labeled gluten-free!!! It hadn't even occurred to me to check the generic brand because I thought they would be even less likely to care. What a bright spot in my day!
  11. Hi All- I was wondering if there's any gluten free folks out there successfully taking Zyrtec over the counter tabs. I am sensitive to CC. I called and they gave the standard no gluten ingredients, but we have not tested that med. They HAVE tested the zyrtec liquid gel caps and they are gluten-free. Good news for those of you with open liquid gel caps...
  12. Hi All- A was wondering if anyone knows if Zyrtec OTC tabs are gluten free because they've taken them. The company hasn't tested them- only the gel tabs. My search brought up this post. Those with unexplained itching should check out Irish Heart's post about MCAS, or read Dr. Jess' blog. It's worth a looksee. Open Original Shared Link I've been itching...
  13. I'm pretty sensitive and I take it without a problem. I believe I've had a couple different kinds after diagnosis, most recently the "Immune" version because I'm low on Vit D. I can't honestly remember what the other type was, just in case there's a difference. However, the ingredients look pretty similar except for the type of juice concentrate they use...
  14. Hi Bart- Just so you know, my tongue is a problem as well. It doesn't get really, really swollen. But it scallops around the edges and sometimes my speech is slightly affected. I'm not sure if other people hear it or I am the only one because I know it's more difficult to get certain consonants out. This happened to me first after my reaction to Bactrim...
  15. Welcome Aquadan! You are lucky to have caught both the celiac and the colon polyp early. Many of us are ragged by the time we get the diagnosis. So instead of seeing this as a horrible thing, I think you should see it as a blessing. You will heal much faster and not have to go through the slow deterioration of your poor body before getting a diagnosis...
  16. I'm reading this and it just doesn't add up. Why would fruits and veggies upset her if this was connected to gluten? Those have been taken off her safe-foods list, right? Is it possible that the test is a false positive? I have no idea if that happens regularly, but I know others on this forum are much more knowledgable about test results.
  17. Back from the allergist. I'm not really sure what to think. He is testing me for serum tryptase to rule out mastocytosis. If that is positive, then he plans to do the urine test. When I said that people with MCAS usually test withon normal range for the tryptase, his answer was basically "why do you need a diagnosis for MCAS if you're just going to treat...
  18. I have been gluten free for 17 months and am still taking the supplement. But given Kareng's advice- maybe I'm just not doing it right! I'll try those suggestions.
  19. This is HILARIOUS!! On a more serious note, when picking your poison for menopause (au naturale or hormone replacement), keep in mind that the hormone replacement may be better for your heart (verdict still out), but may not be so good at preventing certain cancers. You may want to consider your family history. Someone described hot flashed to me once...
  20. I get severe anxiety and am extremely irritable. My poor husband- I just tell him to leave me be at those moments. My reaction time was 3 hours the first time and seems to have settled in around 6 hours now. All my symptoms come at once and last for a few hours. Unfortunately, there are some lingering GI and skin issues afterwards that take about a week...
  21. Hi All, I wanted to validate a few things from finally reading the literature that has been recommended. 1. Last June I got on this site and b*tched a blue streak because I had tried to wax my face with Nads (natural compound- not chemicals) and I broke out in welts everywhere on my face! NOW I can laugh about it!! This finally makes sense. Apparently...
  22. I hope you feel better soon, Lori!
  23. Thanks Lisa!! I will eat more once I figure out how to manage the cooking. I'm not what I would call handy in the kitchen, with the exception of the microwave
  24. Hi Lori- Here are some ways I inadvertently glutened myself: 1) old grill grates 2) Bath and Body Works Hand Sanitizer The hand sanitizer was during the winter as I was trying to stay healthy at about the same point as you are now (6 months in). I would slather it on before I ate and every now and then had something stuck in my teeth. Whammy. It...
  25. Just because I've been researching this after eating what I thought was a completely low histamine diet and still had a reaction: I found egg whites on a list of "foods with potential histamine releasing effects":Open Original Shared Link In a private conversation with Dr. Jess (man, her ears must be RINGING!) I asked her about the eggs and she said...
