  1. I don't think they carry them in the states, but Fisherman's Friends are gluten/dairy free.
  2. called the company this morning, it is gluten and casein free.
  3. amaranth is my favourite flour and my favourite grain. i love it.
  4. hi Kaycee, why don't you ask your parents to take a book (perhaps Gluten Free For Dummies... it is very basic and easy to follow and was the ONLY book that helped my dad understand) and glance it over before you head there? or can you make them a pseudo info pack and send it to them?
  5. homemade gatorade: Dissolve 4 tbsp. sugar, 1/4 tsp. salt in 1/4 c. boiling water. Add 2 tbsp. lemon juice and 3 and 3/4 c. cold water. Chill.
  6. everything in moderation, seriously (except for untolerated foods: gluten and in most cases, like mine, dairy). if we listened to everything the world put out about foods, we wouldn't eat anything. anything is bad in excess.
  7. We use Nayonaisse in this house, also. We've also used Vegenaise in the past. edited to add: nayonaise IS soy based, however, vegenaise just has soy protein (if you can tolerate the protein solely). This is from the vegenaise website for you: Does Vegenaise® contain any common allergens? Vegenaise® is free of eggs, milk products, wheat, gluten, ...
  8. i would suggest (if need be) to hold out for a little bit - unless your nephew is ready - and explain to him the disease (unless he is well aware) and ask him some more questions about his health. perhaps with gentle prodding on your part, he'll go to his GP himself and ask for the bloodwork. if you or your husband are close with him, you could accompany...
  9. If you see that the outside is browning faster than the inside is cooking, for the last twenty minutes lower the oven temperature and cover the top (loosely) with foil.
  10. i know that cotton candy is basically colouring, corn syrup and sugar... if it's made at a fair or similar, it might be cross contaminated, otherwise, just call the company. i'm assuming it is safe.
  11. Let me know how you enjoy it!
  12. Hi Kris, You're right, it's so overwhelming at the beginning. If you want, you can PM me and I can give you my email address - sometimes it's easier to hvae a communication buddy.
  13. Ack! I just wrote it out and it deleted ALL of it! Here it is again 1 1/4 cup water 3/4 c. egg equivalent (egg whites or replacer... i usually use the replacer as opposed to flax for this, because sometimes i add flax to the finished product) 3 tbsp. veg oil 4 tbsp. honey 1 1/2 c. flour (i like amaranth, but have used others) 3/4 c...
  14. for bread i either use the flax mixture (if I want it to be healthier!) or egg replacer (which has no nutritional value). both work really great. vegetable oil will work for coconut oil.
  15. I am so glad you've posted this! In the winter, I called and they couldn't verify, and I was having the worst cold. It's so good to know, thanks!
  16. for my gluten free recipes, i use one of these for egg replacement: for a binder (per egg) - 1 tbsp flaxseed (ground) with 3 tbsp warm water - 1 tbsp gelatin with 3 tbsp warm water - 1/2 c soft tofu - 3 tbsp pureed fruit for a leavener (good for if there is more than one egg, this is per egg) - ener-g egg replacer (it is 1 tbsp plus 2 tbsp warm...
  17. My Superstore has a large Natural Foods selection - although most are overpriced, it's good in a pinch. I am not sure about that horseradish. I am not sure about the sauce, but I know French's mustards are, so I assume that everything they have might be gluten-free. You might want to call and verify.
  18. leah, thanks for the info. i eat cabbage and broccoli everyday, and know i don't have a problem with them. so many connections - so much to think about! so i just listen to my belly... and my bowels.
  19. hi beerlow i'm in ontario and the only ones i have seen are whole foods organic brand, but i know you dont have one there. i wanted to let you know, though, in case you have friends in BC or Ontario.
  20. i just googled the shape site to see if it was on there too, because i thought it might be easier: here it is: Open Original Shared Link. really small, but nice to hear!
  21. rachel, that's interesting. i am extremely sensitive to sulphites, but do not get affected by cabbage. (i also consume a whole head a day).
  22. Emily, I completely agree. I am extremely allergic to sulfa, also. I also cannot have gluten, dairy or sulphites. Everything with sulphites (natural or not) kill me. That's why I ended up doing the research... For a connection. Either way, it gets me!
  23. i, too, am allergic to sulfa, but the two aren't corresponded. i did a lot of research at the beginning, trying to figure out with they were. Open Original Shared Link
  24. they had a booth at the canadian celiac convention, and they had two dairy-free choices... one they were making (it was the cornbread). it was okay, but frankly, homemade cornbread is SO much better.
  25. it is really easy, and cheaper to make your own... tomatoes, fresh herbs.. that's really all it takes!
