  1. Hi Kristen, It was not painful! If it felt at all uncomfortable, they just slowed the drip and gave me Benadryl. I took a pulpy Acai very healthy drink in with me that helped my energy levels. At the hospital, a volunteer would come by and take our lunch order (this was before I knew about Celiac). I would just come home and sleep afterwards. ...
  2. It's been a roller coaster ride because I have been getting glutened since the start of the diet (about every week to 10 days) so this came as a big surprise. Of course, the Ferritin has quite a ways to go and my D is in the dirt (which also causes fatigue). It is the first time my Ferritin level climbed without supplementation which, to me, speaks volumes...
  3. Hi folks, I am so happy! Went on the gluten-free diet in October (to feel better like everyone talks about) and was that ever an eye opener! I honestly had no idea that this could be my problem and really knew nothing about Celiac AT ALL! My labs just came back since going gluten-free (albeit that is a struggle all it's own) and my Ferritin and...
  4. (accidentally posted twice so here's a smiley face for you)
  5. Hi KristenS, I went gluten-free the end of October and life has been a roller coaster ride ever since. One good thing is the anxiety has lessened since maintaining the gluten-free diet (I've been glutened 5-6 times since going gluten-free and that has made it frustrating and difficult). My hemoglobin was at 7.9 in '09 and I received iron transfusions...
  6. I hope you're hanging in there TxPlowGirl. Hugs.
  7. I'm so glad it worked out for your son. It's always uplifting to read that someone's health is doing better!
  8. Thanks. It's good to know I'm not caught in some cosmic joke! :-)
  9. This helps me during flares: Open Original Shared Link Good luck!
  10. Yes, you're right. The other day I mentioned it to a doctor in passing and we got to talking about it and how my symptoms are those of an autoimmune disease (and have been for more than a decade but every specialist is a hammer looking for a nail, right?). He chided me and said, "Celiac isn't an autoimmune disease". I answered, "Celiac is the only autoimmune...
  11. Okay, now I'm utterly confused. I've been sick for about ten years now. Becoming gluten-free reduced many of my symptoms but the symptoms also became more pronounced after eliminating gluten from my diet and then ingesting it. This seemed to be THE ANSWER to my search of what is wrong! My husband joined me in becoming gluten-free for reasons of solidarity...
  12. It baffles me that before 1960, doctors diagnosed celiac by eliminating gluten from someone's diet, reintroducing it and noting a reaction. Now, everyone has to go through a myriad of tests which may be inconclusive. Thanks for the correcting my misunderstanding of the genetic test. I would have been very bummed finding this out after the fact. My...
  13. NEVERMIND. My husband just threw a fit about me being on gluten because he sees such a difference. He thinks there are more pitfalls in seeking answers through the medical community than in being resolute about staying gluten-free and watching my health improve despite the doctors. Today begins my first day back on the gluten-free journey. I am looking...
  14. Hey folks, This gluten-free journey started for me in October and it's been quite the roller coaster ride. I am going to see a gastroenterologist who specializes in Celiac on 1/15. I believe it would be prudent to genetic test first since Celiac can be ruled out with the genetic test and then I could consider it a wheat intolerance. Any advice there...
  15. Thanks for your replies folks. I've learned so much in the past week. Cooked a gluten-free meal for the holidays and it was incredibly nice to eat with loved ones in my safe little abode. It's certainly a motivator for being the one who entertains. I'm currently at the in-laws for New Years and it has been impossible to stay gluten-free because of the...
  16. At the suggestion of dietitian specializing in Celiac, tarted eating gluten on in-law new year's trip in prep for testing :-/

  17. Thank you. The pork tenderloin packaging left off the words " No Added Enhancers or Solutions" so I may have to give it to my neighbors!
  18. I bought both of these at a health food store for dishes I'm making tomorrow & Tuesday. They both say, "Minimally Processed. No Artificial Ingredients. No Added Enhancers or Solutions". Are these safe to eat? I'm a newbie and am eight days out from being glutened and cannot afford to be ill right now!! Please help. Cali
  19. Thank you everybody

  21. Hello all, I'm currently working on creating a gluten-free home. Can any of you share your experiences of how you accomplished this? What did you get rid of and what did you add? Are there any cleaning tips needed and things that say "gotcha" that aren't readily obvious? Heck, even things that are readily obvious may not be to me. I figure replacing...
  22. :-)
  23. Ditto so far. I'm a newbie with little experience but Northern Elf's response rings true for me. I'm on day four after being glutened in a restaurant eating gluten-free food. Although it started out pretty intense, this afternoon, my outlook on life became better which is one of the first signs of "the road back". There are symptoms going down the road...
  24. Here's a guideline for testing: Open Original Shared Link I went on a very gluten-free diet for a few weeks (no restaurants!) and then ate Thanksgiving stuffing. Went back on gluten-free the day after Thanksgiving because, holy moly, the symptoms came barreling in much to my surprise. My world was turned upside down for the next very sick few weeks...
