  1. I had a huge piece of gluten-free carrot cake leftover from Easter and sweet potato hashbrowns with crumbled sausage. yumminess!
  2. Hi all. I am on a whole foods and of course gluten free diet. Basically I have to cook all my own food since I am allergic to many common ingredients. At the moment I'm just feeling really burnt out on doing all this cooking, and trying to think of healthy foods that don't really require preparation. Just need a break for like 4-5 days. Being stuck in the...
  3. Yes I seem to get different symptoms every time and sometimes nothing at all. I found out early on that rye doesn't affect me (on the surface) but avoid it anyway since I'm 99% sure I have celiac. Barley makes me feel pretty gross though.
  4. That reminds me of another habit I've acquired, which is when there is a social event that may last all day, make sure the host is very clear on why you only bring your own food. I'm going to a baby shower and the host is cooking everything. Honestly I'm worried since she seems clueless about wheat (offered me brownies after I explained I was allergic to...
  5. It wasn't like that though lol. Somebody thought it was a restaurant where you order ahead of time and just run inside and pick up the bags of food. It turned out to be a sit down place. Much to my dismay!
  6. Yeah there are people in my family that give me a hard time in this situation. Like my aunt, she insisted on stopping by a gluten free bakery despite me saying most of that stuff is made with oats, which make my throat swell. Surprise, surprise, she got upset that nobody ate it.
  7. Well I'm sure I'm not the only one. But its so awkward when someone reacts to my gluten free status by purchasing food for me. And most of the time its not even gluten free (they thought it was). Or its got a ton of other crap that would give me indigestion. Then I feel kinda bad and offer to pay them back, and remind them that gluten is just one of many...
  8. Tonight its not very exciting lol. Leftover chicken and bag of frozen veggies. I usually am very experimental and weird with what I cook: I will eat anything as long as its healthy and gluten-free.
  9. hmmm that only happened once to me with my boyfriend! So Just avoid French kissing lol.
  10. Well in general I share a little food if someone wants to try it, I was always like that
  11. I have decided not to eat any fried foods at restaurants. Especially because they use highly processed oils which are extremely unhealthy thanks to the transfats
  12. Yea there's usually at least one person present who knows I can only eat at certain places. But people are rude to me about the food I do bring along, like chopped up chicken and protein bars. Either they refuse to try my food or take one tiny bite and kind of gag
  13. So what do you do when a group of friends invites you to a place you obviously can't eat at? Like pizza place or sandwich shop. Every option seems to have a downside. I can either politely decline and be totally left out, try to make everyone change their minds about the restaurant chosed, or just sit in the restaurant with a rumbly stomach. I really curious...
  14. I don't have any tattoos yet but having a tattoo to remind you of your journey to good health is great idea
  15. hmmm this was different than my gluten reaction which is usually pain in joints. If I am allergic to corn, I don't know yet which part of the kernel is problematic.
  16. Thats why I cook at home 99% of the time. I feel really embarrassed when I have to send my food back to the kitchen because it has some little thing like candied nuts or a bit of sauce. And now I hear they dust meats with flour so they won't stick to the grill...ugh lol. good call not eating the canned stuff. Food from cans is really hit or miss when you...
  17. I have thought about this. but it was non GMO corn, the safest kind. also I reacted to a salad with corn in it but at the time I thought it was something else. CC has never been an issue for me before so I don't think thats it either.
  18. So I was already intolerant of gluten, lactose, casein, soy, oats, brown rice, canola oil, white mushrooms and oysters. Now it seems I have developed a severe corn allergy! I had a few cups of corn pasta for dinner and I suffered this cramping/burning feeling in my stomach from about 7:30 that night until the same time the next morning - 12 hours!! There...
  19. A staple for me is salad with canned fish as I am trying to keep my grocery budget from being too insane lol. http://nomnompaleo.com/post/17420518139/tuna-and-avocado-wraps One of the steps is rolling the salad into a lettuce leaf "wrap" but its still good without:)
  20. True but once in a while you dont get to choose. Once I was visiting my parents and they really wanted to go out to this restaurant that specializes in pot pies and was really close by. So I was dragged along
  21. I'm sure forks over knives is all bull. People who don't eat meat never stop to think about this little fact: Modern agriculture kills 300 animals per acre since small animals settle in the fields and are killed by farm equipment. Eating grassfed meat kills a whopping 1 animal per acre.
  22. Same here. I ordered a plain grilled fish at at restaurant, nauseated for hours until i finally threw it all up
  23. Having celiac disease has ruined the restaurant experience for me. i try to be clear about my condition to wait staff, and they are dismissive, resentful and always confused. Then i get to read down a long list of foods i can never eat again. I end up getting something plain like a salad. later i am asked if i got enough to eat. i lie. Sometimes i have to...
  24. Maybe its a dumb question, but when you are having a hard time absorbing nutrients, shouldn't the body's reaction be to make you eat more? By making you hungry all the time? I am talking about celiacs who have already been dx'd and follow the gluten free diet. before dx I could barely eat from all the nausea so thats a different story!
  25. Well I am Celiac, I had many classic symptoms since I was 9 years old. I am very careful about what I eat but I don't get paranoid about 10 ppm. My answer to your question is its up to you how careful you want to be. As long as I always cook my own food and when I don't, I know how to identify gluten on labels and eat right in restaurants, I am fine.
