Happy Birthday Betty too!

I think you have a gluten intolerance, sensitivity or Celiac. Welcome.

"The team's attempts to remove the alpha-gliadin site from the short arm of chromosome 6 of the D-genome (6DS) yielded in a favorable decrease in the presence of T-cell stimulatory epitopes, but also yielded a significantly loss of favorable baking properties" - Quoted from the link you listed.
It is interesting. It's great to know that this form of research is ongoing.

I am sorry that your post was not responded too.
An internet search would find some magazines for the gluten free lifestyle, but I would think that advertising would be costly. Contacting the Celiac Sprue Association, Celiac Disease Foundation, the Gluten Intolerance Group and R.O.C.K.- Raising Our Celiac Kids. They have contact information on their websites. Most, if not all have newsletters they send out to their membership.
Anyone of these great organization would be happy to help you in any way that they can, member or not. Make that effort to contact them.
On the cover page of this Forum, the Calender mentions many events with many sponsors. Perhaps some of those listed could direct you the information that you are requesting.

The jury duty notice states that there are no exemptions, everybody that is eligible to serve
I don't know if this varies from state to state, but in North Carolina, if you are 65 or older, you can be exempt from jury duty for life, if you contact the clerk's office and show proof of age.

Truimph makes cards and I highly recommend them (or any of their products for that matter).
Great idea though.

I don't have any experience with situations like this. I would equal your situation to mine without power after a hurricane. Could you store you own food in a cooler in a private area. There are some good microwave entrees, or toaster Van's Waffles.

Yup, blowin' smoke I believe.

I generally think it's not wise to depend on lists of gluten free products. But cosmetic labeling is often to small to read the ingredients and they use ten dollar scientific words that are difficult to decipher.
Clinique, no longer will guarantee their lipstick (a CYA statement), but they will say that there is no gluten added. That's okay with me and I will continue to use their safe products.
The most current listing that I was able to find is two years old. Does anyone have a more up-to-date listing for their gluten free lipsticks?
Thanks

I am sorry that you are having problems. If there is any activity through C.com that concerns you, PLEASE contact the Administrator. There is no tolerance for that here.
We hope to see you again, once your unfortunate issues are take care of.

If my memory is correct, the octopus is not gluten free and all (most) imitation crab meat is not gluten free.

Welcome Amy,
Unfortunately, I don't' believe there is an over the counter test for Celiac Disease. You are correct, your mother needs Celiac Blood Panel ordered by her doctor. I don't understand why her doctors found it unnecessary. I thought doctors were available to help people.
If testing is not an option for your mother, she could try the diet for several weeks to see if her symptoms improve.

That loooong thread about McDonald's has some very good information in it. This thread indicates that McD's french fries are not gluten free is a bit misleading.
They have been been independently tested and it was determined that McD's french fries have a gluten level that is considered safe for people with Celiac to consume. People can argue back and forth until the cows come home about the safety of their fries.
To claim that they are not gluten free l00% is probably accurate(as in most any processed foods, let alone the cross contamination risk). But, to claim that they will hurt most individuals with Celiac Disease, that has yet to be established.
The bottom line is, you can choose to eat them or choose not too. They aren't forced fed to us. I am always fascinated at the iconic stature that McDonald's has become in our society.

B-12 injections helped me tremendously when I was first diagnosed. Many people with Celiac are deficient in B-12 and Folic Acid. But, it was about two months before I was able to comfortably leave the house. It takes time.

Kraft will clearly list wheat, barley, malt and rye. If you don't see it on the ingredients list, it's not in there.

I am glad that you are continuing to seek answers. Listed below is the Blood Panel to test for Celiac. It is not always reliable in young children, though. This blood test, endoscopy/biopsy and a positive dietary response can help to diagnose for Celiac.
Antigliadin antibodies (AGA) both IrA and IgG
Antiendomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA
Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA
Total IgA level.
Good luck tomorrow and don't stop until you have your answers.
-
You tested positive for the tTG IgA and tTG IgG blood tests, which are very specific/sensitive tests for Celiac.

Starting a gluten free diet can be pretty complicated initially. Everything need to be gluten free from your toaster, lotions, lipsticks, meds, vitamins, etc.
For most people, it takes a while to master the diet without error. And if you have intestinal damage, two weeks is a relatively short period of time for the diet to remedy. For most of us, it took a long time for damage to occure and likewise, it will take some time to heal.
I would like to know by what means were you tested for gluten sensitivity? If you post that, we have some good people who can help you interpret your results.

Welcome to the Club! This is a great place. Take a walk around.
Keep your diet simple in the beginning. Meats, fish, rice, potatos, fresh veggies and fruit. Stay away from dairy for a while and spend as much time as you can reading here.

Are these signs of celiac also?
Yes the can be, but they are symptomitic of other things as well.
-
I did not know what Celiac Disease was until I was diagnosed. But, I thought I was dying of Cancer or something equally as grave.
Yes, I am grateful for Celiac and the knowledge that I have gained along with my good health.

My doc ran some tests and told me I had an elevated sprue count... what test was it that he ran??? I've been gluten free and have absolutely zero energy and zero strength>>>

These are the test that are needed to diagnose Celiac Disease. And endoscopy exam and biopsy can also diagnosed. I would suggest that you also get a full metabolic panel to test for any deficiencies you might have do to possible malabsorption.

That's an easy fix. Look at the top right of your page. You will see an white "Option" box. Click on it and then, click on "Standard" and it should bring you back to familiar territory.
It just happens from time to time.

I keep checkin and cheering everyone on the side lines. It's really a BIG deal what you guys are doing. It will be two years in August for me and I don't ever think about it, but I understand how difficult it can be.
Keep up the good work. I'm pulling for all of you. Oh, and if everyone does well, ya'll get to go to Ken's for dinner and a visit.
