  1. This is not directed any anyone. There are a few subjects on this forum that tend to bring out a lot of emotion. Politics is one of them. A good healthy discussion is great, but please keep in mind that words can offend. Choose wisely. ;):D ....carry on.

  2. Wouldn't it be a lot easier to learn to read labels. :) Remember, your personal health is in your hands alone.

I truly don't mean to start an issue here, honestly. But, I am totally beside myself with the interest in this product.

Sure, maybe in theory it's an interesting idea. And perhaps someday, it can be used efficiently and cost wise for daily use. But not today, at those prices for a cumbersome in house experiment that is not guaranteed.

Some people may be sensitive to the residual grain in grain based distilled product, that does not mean that all vinegars and all alcohol is unsafe for celiacs to consume. No need to frighten people.

Read the labels, call the company and if you still get ill from a product, don't use it anymore. It's not that difficult. Life with Celiac is complicated enough, I see no reason to further complicate it.

With that said, I will TRY to exit from this thread. ;)

  3. In reference to the current topic/discussion, grounds for a law suit can claim Libel only if the information is FALSE.

If you claim that a product does, in fact contain gluten, where as, it has always been tested not to contain gluten in a reputable quality controlled environment, a law suit can occur and the burden of proof remains with you.

Are main line corporations monitoring this site, doubtful.

But, I would encourage you, should you post brand named, known gluten free product, that you be 100% certain the manufacturers claims are false.

  4. Dairy is often suggested to eliminate or limit for a period of time while you are healing. There is a connection between dairy and your villi in your small intestines. If your villi are damaged due to Celiac Disease, dairy may give you symptoms similar to gluten.

Once some healing takes place, dairy can be reintroduces without issue.

  5. If you are a celiac and you have been on the diet for a while, AND you feel good... what are you eating? I just want to know what foods you regularly eat, what foods you avoid, and why. I know I'm such a pain in the a@#! Thanks!

I'd be more than glad to help, but wow, that's such a broad questions. Can ya narrow your questions a little bit. :D Please.

  6. Welcome!

A follow up endoscopy and biopsy are not necessary with clear positive blood work. What you have is a diagnosis in itself. It can show the level of damage and look for other issues. It is a personal choice.

Gluten can be pretty tricky and it's everywhere. We have many, many parents with young school age children. I'm sure they will help you as you deal with the school. There are lists of gluten free school supplies available too.

Glad to have you join us.

  7. Hi beachbel,

I certainly am not well versed as I would like BUT... (don't you hate it when people say that! :( )

If you continue to show levels of active antibodies, it indicates that your body is reacting to gluten from somewhere, according to what I understand.

If your antibodies were negative you you still had no healing of your villi, I would suspect Refractory Sprue, after a reasonable period of time. A person diagnosed with Refractory Sprue does not respond (as in healing of the villi) to the gluten free diet., but would test negative for antibodies.

With a fine tooth comb, I would revisit everything you come into contact with, ingested or not. If you need help with product information, please feel free to ask.

  8. Alvine Pharmaceuticals Reports Positive Results with ALV003 in Phase 1 Trial of Therapy in Development for Celiac Disease

SAN CARLOS, Calif., October 29, 2008 - Alvine Pharmaceuticals, Inc., today announced proof of concept in a Phase 1 Trial of ALV003, an oral protease therapy in development to detoxify gluten, intended for use by patients with celiac disease. The trial results confirmed that single doses of up to 1,800 mg of ALV003 were safe and tolerable in healthy volunteers. Doses at the 300 mg level achieved up to a 96% reduction of gluten in a meal in the stomach at 30 minutes, and were well tolerated by patients with celiac disease. In addition, doses as low as 100 mg were shown to be biologically active in degrading gluten in the stomach. Based on these results, Alvine plans to initiate Phase 1/2a multidose trials in early 2009.

"The outcome of the Phase 1 Trial of ALV003 is a major step toward providing people with celiac disease a better quality of life, as there are currently no approved pharmaceutical therapies available," said Dr. Ciar

  9. Sorry that you're having a hard time. Sometimes cravings can be psychological and sometimes physiological.

Have you had a full metabolic panel done to check your minerals and vitamins levels to make sure everything is not out of wack? Your body may be telling you that it needs something.

    ...just a thought. :)
