Information posted by the Celiac Disease Foundation:
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the final rule to define the food labeling term "gluten-free" will be published sometime after FDA solicits and considers public comments on the agency's safety assessment report on gluten exposure in individuals who have celiac disease. A Federal Register notice will be published to announce the availability of the safety assessment report. Interested individuals may wish to periodically check FDA's website Open Original Shared Link for updates on the safety assessment report and the final rule.

I wanted to add that your doctor is ill informed. Of course, as you know, going gluten free WILL effect your testing.
If the GI cannot schedule you anytime soon, I would return to your doctor and request/demand the following panel for Celiac:
Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG
Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA
Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA
Total IgA level.
And do continue to eat gluten. Remember that the blood test are not always reliable, but with your success in positive dietary response, you could continue with the diet and feel better. Many people here are self diagnosed and feel quite comfortable with that decision.

Don't know if I've missed a post about this or not, but I placed an order a few weeks ago and have never received it. I placed it from the old site. At that time, there was a link on the new site to get to the old one. I just went there to see if I could track my order and could not find a link. On the shipping info page, it stated that no personal checks were accepted. This is how I paid and have ALWAYS paid for my order with no problems. Anybody know how to get to old site or track order? May have to see if they cashed my check; they haven't returned it. Thanks!
I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I understand your question. Did you order through Gluten Free Mall? Or, from the advertisers on this site? I'm not sure what you mean by the "old site".

Ok, so I went shopping today and I was reading labels very carefuly. I was having some trouble trying to
decipher what the labels really meant and how safe the products were. For insatance, is gluten free the same as
gluten free ingredients? And, if something seems to be gluten free when reading the ingredients does that
automatically make it safe, or is there more to be aware of? If it says it is processed in a plant that processes wheat is that ok, or no? And, if it is processed on machinery that also processes wheat is that a definate no-no? I wish things were labeled in a less confusing manner. Can sameone help me figure out how to read the labels and buy the right stuff......please?
You're smart. Learning to interpret labels is the key to your success. HEre is a listing of companies who will clearly list all forms of gluten (ie. wheat, barley, malt and rye). Copy this and take it to the store with you.

I would stay away from "...shared equipment or manufactured in the same" for a while until you are well on the road to healing. Later down the line, you might try something new and test your reaction. Everyone is different in the amount that they can be exposed to regarding cross contamination.
The US government is in the process of determining what can be labeled gluten free. There is no standard as of yet. So, therein is the difference between gluten free and no gluten ingredients (not tested, none added, but CYA for cross contamination.)

Count me in Lisa, I have no idea where it is, but I'll go anywhere at this point. I was going to go to Phoenix in the middle of summer just to be able to get away

Lisa - did you miss the question? . . . or are you trying to avoid me?
. . . are you anywhere near Asheville? (Perhaps organizing psilly ashevilly summit?)
Oops, question. Asheville is all the way across the state from me. Way far away
. It would be fun to meet in Asheville. It's beautiful country.

Nag's Head?!?!?! How can anywhere named Nag's Head be romantic?
Ah Jess, there is a reason for the name.
LEDGEND has it... that Pirate would walk their old nag horses up and down the dunes with a lantern around the horses neck. It would look like a ship rolling on the sea. The other Piratiers would approach what they thought was a ship and run aground onto the dunes. The Pirates would salvage the booty from the wrecked ship. Thus, we have the name Nags Head. Now, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Whale Bone Junction - I haven't a clue.
Romantic, naw.

No gluten, dairy, soy or corn ingredients.
You might want to contact a business attorney for the correct labeling.

Has anyone ever had severe joint and muscle pain and been placed on steriods? Has anyone ever had these pains but no stomach/stool issues. My MD is trying to say that my current symptoms are related to celiac, but I doubt his diagnosis.
Sure, it can be very common for Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid and OsteoArthritis to be associated with Celiac. Many here have those issues. I, after three years gluten free have OsteoArthritis. My doctor has not prescribed steroids, but rather two Aleves in the am and two in the pm. For the time being it seems to work.
I am not sure that I can pinpoint my arthritis on Celiac or just the aging process. Either way, I've got it.
Here is some information you may be interested in:

There are NO false positives with regards to blood tests for Celiac. There are, false negatives.
I have talked to several doctors and when they attended med school, there was only a brief reference to Celiac Disease and then, it was considered exceedingly rare. There have been some very rapid changes/research since then, and I believe few doctors are knowledgeable.

If your intent is to be gluten free, you're not ..... "I admit to tasting a cake mix prepared with flour and wheat pasta when cooking for the rest of the family.
but in general I avoid pasta, bread."

This is a great article with lots of interesting information. It should generate some interesting discussion.

I may have just done something really stupid. I can usually eat strawberries, but today I tried organic ones, and for some reason, I had a terrible allergic reaction to them. I panicked and took a Benadryl. I know some Benadryl is gluten-free, but this was the capsul kind which I'm not really sure about. All I can find on the web so far is tabs and elixir are gluten-free. Anyone know about the capsules?
Thanks!
No worries, except for the stawberries.

I had an endoscopy today. The impression says.....
Subtle scalloping of the duodenal folds noted. Multiple cold biopsies were obtained.
Evidence of nonerosive gastritis of the antrum. The mucosa appeared erythermatous. Multiple random cold biopsies were obtained from the antrum and the body of the stomach.
The esophagus appeared normal.
I was diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency in February but all blood test came back negative for Celiac.
There is a family history of celiac.
The doctor says about a 50/50 chance the biopsy will reveal Celiac. Any advice and explanation of the above impression would be helpful.
Thanks!
Scalloping is classic for Celiac. That with a strong family history and I am sure that you have other symptoms could very well indicate Celiac. Your biopsies may or maynot confirm a diagnosis, as they can be hit or miss.
It is very possible that you have not sustained enough damage for positive blood work, which also is not conclusive due to it's inaccuracy.
A positive dietary response will confirm. Good Luck.

I tried my for a while. Pamela's Pancake mix with orange marmalade, but the lemon curd was the best.
I had a hard time using the correct amount of filling so it wouldn't leak out. They tasted great, though.
Let me know how the mini corn dogs work. I really miss "pigs in a blanket".

These are the test that your doctor should order: (all of them)
Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG
Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA
Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA
Total IgA level.
....good luck!

Thanks for the follow-up Rachelle.
This statement concerns me ".......if wheat and/or wheat extract is directly added to the formula, it will be listed in the Ingredient Statement, on the label. If it is not listed on the Ingredient Statement, then no gluten is directly added to the product", due to the fact that there is no definition of "gluten" and an only reference to wheat.
This uneducated statement does as well, "Since Beauty Care products are used on the hair and skin, it would be very unlikely that a person with Celiac disease would have a reaction from trace amounts of gluten." I can list many things on your product listing that can be ingested.
Well, good for you for taking the time to follow up and post for all of us. Progress is made one step at a time. P&G is a little more informed because of you.

Hi Lynn,
I guess the best thing you can do is leave the log in information available and just walk away. I compare teenagers (having had two myself) to my Jack Russell...they want to do it, but they want to do it on THEIR terms.
Good luck and good to see you again.

You obviously have been going some reading. That's a good thing.
There are three ways to diagnose Celiac Disease; 1) blood test which I will list below, 2) endoscopy/biopsy and 3) dietary response. The first two can can inaccurate.
Many people here are self diagnosed and have chosen the diet. They are quite comfortable with their decision. The relief of pain and illness is reason enough to continue.
Try the diet for a couple of weeks and perhaps you may have your answer. You can always return to gluten for further testing.
HERE is the full blood work for testing:

I see no red flags. HerbOX bouillon granules and cubes are gluten free as well as Swanson's Broth will clearly list.

There is a bit of provenance attached to this particular head dress. IT was once owned by Liberace.
Glutenease

I am concerned for all those that check into this forum for information, that they might think that "CC" or cross contamination is a lesser degree to a true glutening. They are quite the same. And for Uncle Zack to say that a product like Glutenease is acceptable for cross contamination is not factual. UncleZacks soliicitation of this produce is a concern to me, additionally as a moderator of this site.
Whether getting glutened by cross contamination or sitting down and eating a piece of bread or pizza, the autoimmune response, for those that have Celiac, is just as dangerous.
As Woolygimp has posted, Glutenease carried it's own disclaimer that is is NOT A CURE FOR DISEASES - TO INCLUDE CELIAC DISEASE.
