Opps, your post....Tysons will list wheat in their bacon. I doubt that you will find wheat in their bacon.

So, buy it, fry it, eat it, and enjoy it. :P

  2. Kara:

I am not sure why you don't want to consume liquids to flush out your system. I suppose it does not matter what you flush with as long as it is clear and clean.

I am not up on the procedure that you have chosen, but I would recommend that you choose a time that will flush you clean by the time of your proceedure.

If the GI doc can't have a full view, it will hinder your exam.

Good luck and I hope you have some answers.

  3. Halibut is not big here in the mid coast east. I could easily see this converted to salmon, trout, flounder.

    Give this a try:

Put Halibut into a foil lined broiler pan. Baste with Honey Ginger butter (Powdered ginger or grind your own and blend with softened butter)

Broil for a short time (?) turn carefully, broil other side.

The last minue of broiling time, place hazelnuts on top of fish and baste with honey ginger butter and continue.

Server over hot rice, garnish with chive sprigs.

(Not grilled, but I think broiling would work better)

  4. difficulty getting pregnant or maintaining a pregnancy has been connected to untreated celiac disease (likely due to a nutritional deficiency). sticking to the diet will hopefully help. good luck!

There was a clip on TV News this evening that low iron in the blood can effect a pregnancy, or maintaining.

I too lost one many years ago between, my two daughters.

  5. Welcome Lisa.......there are many Lisa's here.

If you are going to a new doctor soon, I would suggest that you stay on a gluten diet. Providing that you are going to be tested, by way of blood test. If you eliminate gluten from you diet now, you will not have an accurate test. What testing have you had done?

If you have already have the testing done. Try being totally gluten free and see how you feel. It may take some time to feel better. I have been gluten free (as best) for about a year and a half, and I still have some ups and downs.

If you have been reading here, there is more to be gluten free than staying away from breads and pastas. Gluten is in a great deal of things.... lotions, creams, lipsticks, toothpaste (?), shampoo.....

If you do have Celiac Disease, you have it for life. A gluten free lifestyle is the cure.

If you are tired of eating the same thing, this site has the most wonderful recipes. Please search this site and there are boundless options for wonderful dining, gluten free and delicious.

  6. To begin with, especially if you are a newby, I would highly recommend ordering some Triumph Dining Cards.

They are printed in several languages and you present them to the manager of your dining choice.

You can find them at : www.triumphdining.com

A dear friend of mine just sent me "The Essential Gluten-Free Restaurant Guide for 2006-07. It lists restaurant in all the states the have gluten free menus. You can keep it in your car or a large purse.

What a special gift from a thoughtful friend.

Aside from that you must talk to the manager and perhaps ask to speak to the chief, explain that you are gluten fee and must order accordingly. If they don't know what you are talking about, leave.

Or you may call ahead or visit the restaurant and discuss you restrictions with the manager when they are not busy...between lunch and dinner.

    Hope that's a good start

  7. Ann:

You joined us because you have Celiac Disease. You also joined us as a Doctor. You have also been very willing to post in your position as a Doctor, and be informative as much as you can to answer many questions.

I would rather hope, instead of us asking you questions.....the turn-around.

You ask us the questions, to further your knowledge of our experiences. What you learn here, pass it on to your colleagues. Write a paper...you have the subjects.

We want you to stay and not be hammered by dx's questions...

How can we help you get the word out.

Thank for your time and your true dedication.

  8. I am 43 and was diagnosed 3 weeks ago. Positive blood and positve biopsy. I saw my doctor today and he wants me to have another endoscopy in 6 months, but I don't have to have another colonoscopy until I am 50 (WhooHoo!) You are lucky you found out when you are so young, unlike a lot of us who have felt terrible our whole lives and didn't know why..

    SanteeBay:

We have a lots of stories, a lot of histories and every one who posts here has a personal history. Many are know by us, who have been here a long time, and may suffer in silence. Do you reallty thing that we have not all walked in your shoes? <_<

"Lucky that you have found out...". I am glad that you found out why you were feeling so bad and happy that you have a conclusion.

There are some people here that have very serious side effect from un dx's celiac. Many are my friends and they are not so lucky.

Count you blessings, trust me. :)

  9. Hey Marie

    Welcome to our world.

I wish that I knew a little bit more about you so I can be helpful to you.

Some people here have a gluten allergy and other are intolerant of any gluten. We have a very wide spectrum of people with a wide variety of sensitivity. Never the less, gluten is not good for all of us.

I am glad that you have been feeling better with out ingesting gluten. Keep reading these post and I am certain that you will be more informed than any professional could provide for you.

If you have any specific questions to ask, please feel free...there are no questions that go unanswered.

  10. Mitch, I would think that with the triple disillation that it would probably be okay. Some people react to grain alcohol, so you can just test it and see. It sounds pretty pure to me.

I concure with Carla, venture forward and enjoy (but always in moderation :P )

  11. Thanks for all the replies. The doctor told me that he considers the celiac blood test for children under 5 to be very unreliable and so he's strongly urging the biopsy. (If it's so unreliable, why do it??)

I might allow the biopsy just to rule out anything in addition to celiac... he mentioned ulcerative colitis and Crohn's.

Just a little input from me..... An endoscopy test for celiac is NOT the same to test for Crohn's.

Chrohn's is tested through the large intestines with a colonoscopy, Celiac is tested in the small intestines through and endoscopy.

Colitis is tested through the large intestines.

If you have a positive blood test, I certainly be would be satisfied with that and begin a gluten free diet for your baby. If you do not see improvement within a months time, at that point would I pursue other testing.

You doctor is asking you to do TWO invasive test on your infant. The test is not difficult for adults, but an infant?

I know that this is a difficult decision because we want to protect, give them the best care that we can and keep them happy healthy and safe.

Good luck and I wish wellness for you and your child. :)
