  1. I've been watch the weather all day, hoping family and friends were/are safe from these tornadoes.

Hope all of you in the path are safe and continue to be safe. And prayers for those who are.

    Here is a CNN clip:

  2. My family physician told me there was no test for Celiac disease.

I would find a new doctor. Or perhaps she meant that there is no test for gluten sensitivity, which is correct.

There are the test to be ordered, but you should be on a full diet of gluten to insure accuracy:

The following are the celiac specific blood tests:

    Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA

    Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG

    Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA

    Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA

Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG

    Total Serum IgA

    AND WELCOME! :D

  3. While looking up some info about milk for a friend, I discovered several articles about how cows are made pregnant pretty much immediately after giving birth, and are milked all through their pregnancies. The amount of estrogen in the milk is nearly at the same levels as the amount in the cows blood. I wouldn't be surprised if the estrogen in the milk is affecting your own hormones.

Without documentation (or don't have the time now to look it up) I have learned that cows milk may be the cause of ultra-early development in young girls. I offer Organic to my granddaughter.

  4. I just wanted to add, stay away from HyTop tea! I thought I'd try it in place of the Red Rose I'd been drinking. Thankfully I opened it before I was out of the RR, and I'm going to get more today. I wasn't necessarily drinking it every day, and since I didn't have an immediate reaction I thought it was ok; but over a period of a couple weeks I was getting itchy and my right knee started to bother me, and I was exhausted. I was wondering if it was my vitamins, or the organic sugar I'd added to the tea or what? Then it finally dawned on me that it might be the tea, and now it's been 3 full days since I've had any and I feel much better.

Thought I'd throw this warning on this thread...

Does the Hy Top Tea have gluten in it?

  5. My 3 and a half year old daughter was just preliminarily diagnosed with Celiac Disease. She has classic symptoms and her blood tests were positive. We go for the endoscope this week. Does anyone have any helpful tips on raising a child gluten free? My heart is breaking for her. I would love to have some feed back from anyone who has experienced this. Thanks!

Welcome! We have lots of parents with children with Celiac. It IS a road that can be successfully traveled. But, be comforted in the diagnosis....no drugs, no surgery. It just a change in diet. :)

    ..they will respond soon. ;)

  6. Hello. I suspect my daughter is gluten intolerant, although her bloodwork came back negative. She has had really dry, cracked hands since earlier this year. Our family doctor suggested she put straight Vaseline on her hands before bed and then wear gloves all night. She has done this before without a problem. However, Saturday night, she put Vaseline on and immediately started screaming that it was burning her hands. Don't know if it's related to gluten or just a weird reaction. Was wondering if anyone else experienced this and did you find a cause for the reaction?

    Thanks!

Certainly Vaseline does not contain gluten, but perhaps the application process gave her some discomfort, on that particular evening.

  7. Here is an excellent article, in my opinion:

Confusing the picture further are private labs that offer tests of stool or saliva that they say can definitively diagnose gluten sensitivity. Experts say that such tests haven't been validated and shouldn't be relied on for a diagnosis. "If anyone claims they have a test that is specifically for gluten sensitivity, there is no such thing, though I'm not ruling it out in the future," says Dr. Fasano.

  8. After being gluten and dairy free (and eating almost only unprocessed whole foods, AND taking a probiotic every day) for a month but still experiencing some stomach issues, I am trying to investigate whether I am possibly sensitive to nightshades or something else. I have tested for corn somewhat and I don't think that is it.

I have a question--is it possible that by eating a harmful food with other food (for example, potatoes in a chicken soup vs. baked potato by itself) would cause less of a reaction, therefore skewing my experiments?

Are your probiotics dairy free? If you have Celiac, it might take several months to heal. Continue on a gluten free diet and after some months if you still have unresolved issues, address other intolerance. One month in not much time to draw conclusions. Eat clean and simply. :)

  9. It really was great Lisa. How's your brother been btw?

Hehe "never noticed the thumbs"?!! That pic was taken just moments after your intently quantifying gaze left my hand, having been placed on your shoulder just a second before!

    Pfffft never noticed.

:rolleyes::rolleyes: Well, I think our meeting pre-dated a lot of things, one included the GREAT THUMB DEBATE. But....perhaps it did not preclude my glimpse at your "large" hands tightly wrapped around... that coffee cup. :P:D

Brother is still in Shanghai, soon to return stateside. How's life in CA?

  10. I'm not familiar with that restaurant. B) Would it be possible to have a server mix you up a fresh salad in the back. Rather one that everyone has had their hands in.

You can explain your food intolerance to the manager and maybe they could be a bit accommodating. Or call before the rush starts and say you are coming in with a large party. Could he/she assist you in your choices.

I am going to a dinner tonight which is catered. I called him up a couple of days ago and asked if he could provide me with a gluten free meal. "Not a problem", he said.

Put the manager to work...that's their job. And good luck! :)
