  2. And I agree...there was no Doctor Called Celiac, who discovered the disease. AND I don't like the label as as "disease", either. I rather prefer, that I am a person with Celiac Disease.
  3. I get that and I use that when dining out, too. I throw in "very sick" as good insurance, or assurance. But chatting on the forum here, or interviews in magazines or TV interviews...I've heard it all. Just curious how people refer to themselves.
  4. After many years on this forum, I have seen many personal references. What do you call yourself? For example: "I am Celiac" "I have Celiac" "I am a person who has Celiac Disease" "I am a Celiac" ...just curious

I also want to add that until healing has taken place, absorption of anything is not complete. Loey you might want to find a good doctor and request B-12 injections. It's the closed thing to "speed" that I have actually known. Guess I need to clarify this....when it takes all your energy to do anything, after a B-12 injection I felt almost normal...

The Home Page here always has current news regarding Celiac and Research. You should find some good stuff for your report. Good luck.
  10. Hi Kayhere! And Welcome! What is your avenue of awareness? There are many National Celiac Foundations/Associations that I can hook you up with, if you would like.

    ARCHIVED Ataxia

Yup! I could not walk a straight line for a while and had lots of balance issues. My B-12 and Folic Acid were tanked. Do get a full metobolic work-up.
  12. Aside from the highly sensitives...all distilled alcohol is considered safe for people with Celiac to consume, regardless of the source. But, be careful...you might find that your alcohol tolerance may have changed. Here are a few samples: /celiac-disease/gluten-free-alcoholic-beverages-r218/
  13. SUPER Idea! Give her some money. She can donate 1/2 of that money to a good cause or charity of her choice and spend the other 1/2 on a gift of her choice. For an example, donate the the local SPCA. Go there with your daughter and see where her donation will go. Or buy some cheap towels, so they can bath the animals when they come in, buy some dog...
  14. Thanks for this recipe. My grandmother used to make Schaum Tortes. (sp?) Melt in your mouth special things severed with fresh strawberries seasoned with sugar. Nothing better than that! Open Original Shared Link
  15. Were we in the same place? "A young Kennedy", Ford, Bush and DC caught my attention. Jenna was recently here for a private wedding.
  16. Hi Cat and welcome! It's best to be tested when a full gluten diet has been consumed for a period of a month or two (preferably two). I have no knowledge about your history, but assuming a full gluten free diet, with multiple vitamins would not be a bad thing. But it has to be completely gluten free, to include your meds as well as anything your put...
  17. Yes, as Raven mentioned or implied, if you felt better going gluten free, that too can be supportive in achieving a diagnosis. Many times, it's fitting the puzzle pieces together. Positive dietary response may not tell you if you have Celiac Disease or a gluten intolerance... it will tell you that you have an issue with gluten.
  18. I think she was making reference to a product called "Glutenese". It's been subject of much debate on this forum. It makes some outstanding claims, but it's not meant for people with Celiac Disease. Just it's name is a turn off to me and leaves me suspicious. Any digestive enzymes which will put back some good bacteria into your system, would be...

  23. I have always heard that imitation crab meat contains gluten. I have never eaten it, nor bothered to check...since we live in crab country (real crab). Not knowing your personal history, I would say yes if you were diagnosed with Celiac or a gluten intolerance. It's generally not the amount of gluten consumed, but the autoimmune reaction to the gluten...

    ARCHIVED Sulfites

Researching some new symptoms I found this very interesting: What are the symptoms of a sulfite reaction? The symptoms of a sulfite sensitivity reaction vary from mild to life-threatening. The most common symptoms are mild and involve a skin rash accompanied by redness, hives, itching, flushing, tingling and swelling. Respiratory symptoms include...
