  1. Hi, I asked that very same question about a month ago. I hope that this link gets you to the responses I got. Open Original Shared Link
  2. To Gluten-Free Heather: Lea & Perrins is NOT gluten-free in Canada or England. It has malt vinegar as an ingredient. (according to a gluten-free list for Canadian foods)
  3. If you are near a Superstore (they might only be in Canada) or a store that sells "President's Choice" brand foods, the PC Cream of 3 mushroom ready-to-serve canned soup is gluten-free.
  4. Kinnickinnik bread at my local grocery is $5.99 a loaf, looks like about 10 slices. I cannot bear the thought of paying that much for bread. I live about 3 hours away from the Kinnickinnik HQ, and I'd rather have friends near there stop in to check the price on their way down here than pay that much plus the shipping if I were to buy in bulk. I spent $...
  5. Try Knorr BOVRIL manufactured by Unilever. I called and they said it's gluten-free. Oddly enough, OXO also manufactured by Unilever is NOT gluten-free. Here's a recipe from "Incredible Edible Gluten-free Food for Kids" by Sheri Sanderson: 2 tbsp margarine or butter 3 tbsp potato starch (or corn starch) 3 1/2 cups chicken broth (2x14oz cans) 1 cup...
  6. My son (almost 6) had no outward symptoms, but he was a bit underweight and had low iron levels. His bloodwork came back positive (not sure what tests) and then he had an endoscopy. The doctor said that the damage to the villi was "not subtle". Awaiting blood test results for my other son and me, and my husband should have had his blood test by now, so...
  7. I'm trying to get this clear in my mind. If you are NOT consuming gluten, you do not produce the antibodies that are attacking your intestine. If you are diligent and the villi heal and then for some reason you consume a small amount of gluten perhaps from cross contamination, or just an accident, will the intestine get damaged from that trace amount, or...
  8. Hi Everyone, I've been looking for a gluten-free Oyster Sauce for my stir frys, and haven't had any luck so far. Does anyone know a manufacturer of gluten-free Oyster Sauce? And it has to be available in Canada. Thanks!
  9. I made chocolate chip cookies last week. They tasted good, but HOLY COW! They spread out all over the place. The dough looked/tasted like non-gluten-free cookie dough but a bit softer. When I took them out of the oven they were all super thin and about 4" around. I made a mental note to make "squares" next time and cook them in a cake pan. And what exactly...
  10. Check with Jamieson Natural Sources. The children's mulitvitamin is salt, yeast, gluten, lactose and aspartame free. Says so right on the label. They are made in Canada, so I don't know if they are available in the U.S. website: Open Original Shared Link I couldn't find a phone number on the label.
  11. In Calgary, Alberta, the Chianti's restaurants (Italian) offer gluten-free pasta to customers. All their sauces are gluten-free and the host (or whoever the guy is who seats you...he's always there when we go) said that either they will cook gluten-free pasta or you can bring in your own pasta and they will cook it for you. For sure the Crowfoot location...
  12. Our Walmart doesn't sell meat or fresh vegetables/fruit. It's just a few aisles with candy, chips, puddings, cookies, canned fruit and veg, cereals and related items, baking needs, canned tuna, dairy products (including milk, sour cream, ice cream) and frozen goods (including frozen veg, ice cream, popsicles, etc.) It's only about 10 aisles, but I thought...
  13. Obviously Walmart couldn't care less about the health issues of their Canadian customers. Celiac awareness month is October. I have a new members meeting with our association on Saturday. I will encourage them to hassle Walmart.
  14. Ever since that AP article in August about Walmart labelling their Great Value products I've been stopping in, and asking them when I'm going to see the new labels. Of course, none of them have any idea what I'm talking about, so I decided to go to the top. I spoke with the assistant manager of the closest Walmart and she took my phone number and later...
  15. Canadian Karen, Is the Delphi list applicable to Canadians? I guess I sort of figured it was only for goods manufactured/sold in the U.S.
  16. OOPS! Forgot to say that my letter is from Frito-Lay Canada, so those three I mentioned earlier are gluten-free, but as celiac3270 mentioned, not manufactured on a dedicated line or a dedicated factory.
  17. Hi Corrine, According to my Frito-Lay gluten-free list dated July 7/05, the following 3 Cheeto's are gluten-free. Cheetos Corn Twists Cheetos Crunchy Cheese Flavoured Snacks Cheetos Puffs Cheese Flavoured Snacks At the end of the letter is the CYA statement: The above products do not contain gluten;however, they are produced on the same line as...
  18. How so? I am new to Celiac, so please explain why these are inaccurate. Thanks.
  19. My almost 6 year old son was just diagnosed via bloodwork and endoscopy just a couple of weeks ago. The Pediatric GI Surgeon said you need 3 things to have Celiac Disease. 1) exposure to gluten, so an infant consuming ONLY breast milk is not exposed (his words). Once the child starts eating solids, s/he is exposed to gluten. 2) the gene for Celiac disease...
  20. Hi, I've been letting my newly diagnosed son have (Canada) Safeway brand rice chips (cheese flavoured) and then last night I woke up in a panic and ran downstairs to check the ingredients. They have things that don't seem to be suspicious except artificial flavour. Safeway's gluten-free list had rice cakes, but not rice chips as gluten-free and I didn...

    ARCHIVED Slurpees

I guess I'll have to call the Slurpee people to find out for sure. I guess I posted this in the wrong forum originally, I thought Slurpees were a Canadian thing. Sorry about that.

    ARCHIVED Slurpees

Are Slurpees gluten-free? Flavours like Coke, Pepsi, Dr Pepper? My little boy thanks you in advance for your knowledge! Linda
  23. Not a teenager ( since too long to mention) and my son Ty who was just diagnosed with celiac disease won't be a teenager for almost 7 years! I'm just posting to say there are young celiac disease kids out there, we don't know any of them though Linda, mom to Ty my 5.5 year old Celiac kid.
  24. Hi All, Now that I can't use a bread slice to keep my brown sugar soft, what do I use? I've tried one of those brown clay thingys you soak in water, and I didn't really think it worked that well. Linda
