  1. Rusla, I found this puff pastry recipe while surfing one day. It's for cream puffs, but I found it when googling gluten-free puff pastry. ***disclaimer*** I have never made this...I just copied it out, I thought it might come in handy one day. gluten-free Puff Pastry 1/2 cup water 1/4 cup butter 1/4 tsp vanilla 1/8 tsp salt 7 tbsp white...
  2. Thanks Laura!
  3. We just stopped in at the Westside Rec Centre after my son's hockey game because I heard that the Primal Grounds coffee shop has gluten-free stuff and they did. Ty had a gluten-free brownie and a hot chocolate and the lady didn't charge extra for the gluten-free, but she said usually it's about 25 cents more. They had three things to choose from: gluten-free...
  4. Claire, what a coincidence that you posted that! I was just at that site a little while ago and discovered I have one of the markers for Celiac. About 10 years ago I signed up for the bone marrow registry as a potential donor, and they told me my HLA types. I thought nothing of it until the other day when I came across something that mentioned Celiac and...
  5. Lisa, what's the pizza crust recipe? Do you have a link? Thanks in advance.
  6. As Tiffany mentioned, Kellogg's Rice Krispies (and most others) are not gluten-free and I'm not even sure Mars bars are gluten-free. Effem Foods Canada told me the only gluten-free products they have are M&Ms (except crispy). Maybe the U.S. Mars bars are gluten-free.
  7. What's a Hershey kiss cookie? Like PB with chocolate chips? Sounds yummy.
  8. Here's a recipe for Sugar Cookies. I neither eat nor bake Sugar Cookies, but they are a staple at my mother-in-law's house at Christmas. She made them, iced & decorated them (checking all labels, of course) and says you can't tell the difference between these and the usual ones she makes. Gluten Free Sugar Cookies â…“ cup margarine â…“ cup shortening 1 ...
  9. Thanks, Jen, I'd appreciate it. I'll be sure to spice it up a bit if I'm eating it plain. Ty has such boring lunches, I'd like to be able to send him some soup to school. The gluten-free Chicken noodle was a hit with everyone in the house who doesn't have to be gluten-free. I'd love to add some variety to his diet, but maybe his lunches will be like mine...
  10. How do they taste? I think that Cream of Chicken soup is bland at the best of times, but I'm looking for soup for my son.
  11. Don't bother, Carrie. I just called the 800 # on the letter to ask what stores it was available at, explained why I had to find it (gluten-free and WooHoo if it's available in Canada), and that the manager at Sobeys had never heard of it. She put me on hold for a while and when she came back she said she had good news and bad news. Bad news (you know this...
  12. Oooh, Sobey's. I forgot about them. Let me know if they have it. Hey, maybe Wal-mart. If I go out and about later, I'll look around.
  13. I just got a letter from Reckitt Benckiser that says: The following products contain no Wheat, Barley, Rye or Oats: French's Worcestershire Sauce French's Prepared Mustards French's Honey Mustard Cattlemen's Barbecue sauces EXCEPT Honey Flavour Frank's Original RedHot Sauce/Frank's Xtra Hot RedHot Sauce Frank's RedHot Buffalo Wing Sauce Frank's...
  14. There is a recipe for gluten-free sugar cookies in Sheri L. Sanderson's cookbook "Incredible Edible Gluten-Free Foods for Kids". I'm not a sugar cookie eater, but my Mother-in-law is going to make these for her Christmas parties, so that Ty can have some cookies. What exactly are you looking for? I think there are some fruitcake type things in the Bette...
  15. I just converted a dud homemade loaf of bread into breadcrumbs and croutons, and I was wondering about how to store them. Should I be putting them in the freezer or can I keep them in a Tupperware container in the cupboard? They are already dried out and kind of oven toasted. Gluten-filled croutons/crumbs just sit in the cupboard, why not gluten-free?...
  16. The Calgary Celiac Association has The Mongolie Grill on their list of recommended restaurants. If you tell them you need a gluten free meal, they will give you a laminated menu that tells what items you can/cannot have. This is mostly sauces and soup. The same list has allergy info for peanuts and shellfish and I can't remember what else, but I was impressed...
  17. I think this is the way it should be explained to all newcomers to the board. We are freaked out enough as it is, with the new lifestyle change and to keep hearing things "Not even a crumb ever! It's like not being on the diet at all!" is very overwhelming and I'm sure many people get a defeatist attitude about it. The explanation above is waaay more comforting...
  18. Open Original Shared Link for Kraft Canada, not sure about the U.S. link.
  19. If you google Gluten-free Casein-free diet there are quite a few websites and I think some of them even have recipe sections.
  20. We ended up taking a big ziploc bag of popcorn with us (Act II microwave by ConAgra) and no one said a peep to us about bringing it. Which is good - or I would have mentioned the excellent concession employee and the useless manager and gone on my merry way.
  21. Thanks all. He is (how can I put this politely?) very SELECTIVE. I did buy some other kind of gluten-free corn flakes, but I liked the TGTBT because they were reasonably priced. He's always been a cereal eater. He absolutely did not like the Envirokids corn pops, but likes the "rice krispie bars" -chocolate only. He has never liked pancakes or waffles...
  22. Good point. I've been wondering the very same thing.
  23. Thanks for checking, everyone. Ty doesn't like the gluten-free corn pops. He did eat the whole box of Superstore PC corn pops, but we still have a half box of the Envirokids corn pops. I found some kind of organic corn flakes in a giant green and clear bag at Safeway. Nature Valley or Nature's Path or something Nature-y. The Superstore TGTBT corn flakes were...
  24. I stopped in at the Cineplex Odeon today, buying tickets for Harry Potter tomorrow, and thought I'd check on their popcorn. They pop it in canola oil, the guy at the concession gave me the ingredient list for their butter (Lactantia, and becel margarine for the "topping"), but he didn't have a list for their salt. He brought me the 10kg bag of salt they use...
  25. Help! I can't find the President's Choice Too Good To Be True Ancient Grains Corn Flakes anymore ! My Superstore hasn't had them the last 5 times I've been there (luckily, I buy 6 boxes at a time and still have one left). The other nearest Superstore doesn't even have a space on their shelf for them. Does anyone know if they are discontinuing this...
