  1. I'm still trying to figure out the crumb vs. pizza thing, too. If a crumb is bad for you, and does all the same damage, then why do you need to be eating 2 or 3 slices of bread a day to do the tests? Why not a few crumbs a day to get accurate results? That's what I'm trying to wrap my head around. Of course, I am still extremely careful when preparing...
  2. Canadians need not look for the new labelling. According the the manager of the 10 food aisles at my Walmart, this is a U.S. thing only.
  3. Felidae's right, it's not President's Choice that's gluten-free, it's the No Name brand, yellow label with green (I think) printing that's available at Superstore. I hope no one bought it because I was steering you in the wrong direction.
  4. You're from Canada, right? I can't remember about Schneiders off hand, I'm at work and don't have my lists. I do know that for sure Maple Leaf Top Dogs all beef hot dogs are gluten-free. They are pricey, though, so try to get them at Superstore, sometimes they have coupons for them at the entrance of Superstore as well. Maple Leaf will send you about a...
  5. I've made this cake twice. The first time, I used Bette Hagman's featherlight mixture. It was good, but I felt it was just a tiny bit "gritty" in texture. The next time, I used Carol Fenster's sorghum/corn flour blend and it was fabulous! Couldn't tell it was gluten-free at all. (I got the recipe from the internet, I have no idea who came up with it originally...
  6. Congratulations! I'm happy for you. My son has been gluten-free since August 18 (almost 3 months) and teeters around the 34/35 lb mark, depends on how big a supper he ate. He is 43 inches tall. At the one month follow-up he had gained 1/2 kg (1 lb) and grown 1 cm (about 1/2 inch). Personally, I think the weight was because he was wearing pants and a sweatshirt...
  7. I made a gluten-free wacky cake that I posted the recipe for somewhere else on the site and it is awesome. Here's the link, it's post #12. I thought it worked best with Carol Fenster's sorghum/corn flour blend. I put in 1/3 cup of applesauce for moistness and used a from scratch butter icing with cocoa. I've made cupcakes as well. Open Original Shared...
  8. I got mine at a store called Rafters. (In Canada, though)
  9. You're right...but they COULD say that they haven't ADDED anything to it, and that it is plain old milk with vitamin D. (Yeah, yeah, they have to add the vitamin D. You know what I mean. )
  10. Sorry for the ridiculous length of this post. Here's a link to the CFIA info: Open Original Shared Link it says: 7.15.7 Gluten-Free Foods [FDR, B.24.018, B.24.019] (Amended 31/01/97) A food is not permitted to be labelled, packaged, sold or advertised in a manner likely to create an impression that it is "gluten-free" unless it does not contain wheat...
  11. Okay gang, we can all stop buying anything from Parmalat. Here's the response to my e-mail (text of that e-mail is in an earlier post) "Dear Valued Consumer, This is to acknowledge receipt of your recent reply e-mail to Parmalat Canada . In response to your inquiry, as previously mentioned in our email, only the Sensational Soy Beverages can...
  12. My Celiac association says it is, but I have to admit that I have never checked. I use VH Soy sauce. It is clearly labelled and in the bold allergen list as the end it says "contains: soy". Drat Lea & Perrins! They still haven't responded to my email. Nor have I received my response from Parmalat yet. I'll have to get on them. I am a valued consumer...
  13. You heard right, here's a link to the "Gluten-Free Certification Organization" Open Original Shared Link and to the Kosher group who will be overseeing it. Open Original Shared Link Of course, we Canadians are S.O.L.
  14. I was at Costco today, and picked up some cans of Stagg Chili Private Reserve. It was a six pack with one UPC code on the outside wrapper, but not on the cans. The ingredients are: tomatoes, beef, water, beans, dehydrated onions, flavoring, modified corn starch, jalapeno chili peppers, paprika, salt, dehydrated bell peppers, sugar, vinegar. The label...
  15. No, I don't know of a gluten-free Worchestershire sauce off hand, I'm at work, so I don't have my duotang of lists. I think I might check President's Choice if they have one, because their soy sauce is gluten-free. I'd have to drive down to Montana to get L&P, and I'm not willing to do that. I did send an email to Lea & Perrins asking them why it...
  16. All Tylenol and Motrin are gluten-free according to the CANADIAN website. Not sure about the U.S. It took some searching around to find out, but here's the link: Open Original Shared Link On the motrin.ca site, on the "ask motrin" line type in gluten and it will say this: Best Response... Gluten is not present in any product with the MOTRIN* name...
  17. Carriefaith, what kind of worcestershire sauce do you use since Lea & Perrins is off limits? And thanks for the great "soft, chewy breadstick" recipe you posted a while back. We love it! Had some yesterday...I think my in-laws were impressed with the gluten-free meal they had when they came for Ty's birthday, even though it was nothing special. Speaking...
  18. Rusla, Chianti's Italian restaurants have rice pasta, and if I remember correctly all their sauces are gluten free also, they use corn starch. We went there for dinner a while ago with my celiac son and he had the rice pasta, it was sort of a rice vermicelli, kind of asian looking, not like the Tinkyada spaghetti sized/shaped rice pasta. The thing that...
  19. Ty got some Popeye and Flintstones candy sticks when he was trick or treating last night. I don't know if they are gluten-free and the company has no website that I can find and no phone number on the boxes. Ingredients for Popeye are: sugar, corn syrup, corn starch, guar gum, gelatin, artificial flavour, colour (they must be Canadian...extra "u"s.)...
  20. I've heard that the mini Snickers are not gluten-free, but the big ones are. I have NO idea why there would be a difference, but I am quite certain the delphi list says mini snickers are chock-full of gluten. (in Canada, anyway)
  21. Awesome! Your Canadian friends appreciate it.
  22. If you have President's Choice brand soup they have a gluten-free cream of three mushroom soup. I haven't tried it, but the label makes it look really yummy. As for the dinner roll you should try Carriefaith's recipe from here: Open Original Shared Link or if the link doesn't work here's the recipe: 1/4 cup shortening 3 tablespoons honey 2 eggs...
  23. I made this as a "test" cake a couple of weeks ago. My son's birthday is in November. I used Bette Hagman's featherlight mixture. He has only been on the gluten-free diet since August, and the only other flour recipe I have used that my son really likes is Carol Fenster's sorghum-corn flour blend. I have no idea how that will work in this recipe, but I'll...
  24. Media attention would be great. Except that...they don't listen. I work in a tv newsroom and pitched the Celiac Awareness month TWICE . Sent the info to the assignments editors (of that list, one is also a medical reporter, three are reporters, and two just send out assignments. All but one are parents) with all the pertinent info and statistics,...
  25. My email from Parmalat was addressed to "Dear Valued Consumer". Here's the response: Dear Valued Consumer, This is to acknowledge receipt of your recent call to Parmalat Canada . Thank you for taking the time to write to us regarding our Sensational Soy Products. In response to your inquiry, recent updates in regulations have changed the definition...
