ARCHIVED Online Recipe Sites
2Boys4Me replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Open Original Shared Link I like to go there and look at the pictures. I haven't tried anything yet, but some of the stuff looks goooood. It's probably a bit too exotic for a six year old, which is why I haven't tried anything, but I intend to try the brownies. I like Allrecipes.com and then usually I just surf around looking. Sometimes the chicken... -

2Boys4Me replied to erin24's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know which is most important, but I can tell you what ours said: Immunoglobulin A 2.54 (ref. range 0.60 - 4.20 g/L) anti-endomysial antibodies negative (screened at a titre of 1 : 2.5) Immunoglobulin A 1.73 (ref. range 0.60 - 4.20 g/L) anti-endomysial antibodies negative (screened at a titre of 1 : 2.5) Immunoglobulin A 1.21 (ref. range... -
ARCHIVED Getting Adoption/medical Records...
2Boys4Me replied to penguin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I read this and thought, "What the heck?" and then realized that G F wasn't spaced out, so girlfriend defaulted to gluten free. No ideas, just thought I'd mention it took me over 30 seconds to figure out the "code". -
ARCHIVED Breakfast, Lunch & Supper In Edmonton
2Boys4Me replied to 2Boys4Me's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks, Ladies, at least now I know he won't be stuck with puffed rice and Envirokidz bars. I'm jotting all this down and putting it in a safe place until April. (Not too safe, I hope, I have to be able to find it again!) -
ARCHIVED Breakfast, Lunch & Supper In Edmonton
2Boys4Me posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Edmontonians, We are heading up at the end of April for the AMPIA awards and will be staying at a hotel whose name I can't remember, but it's at the top of that windy road near the Hotel MacDonald and "above" the Muttart Conservatory. It's on Jasper Ave. or 104 something that goes East-West. Sorry I can't be more specific. My concern is that we will... -
This recipe comes from Starflower at Allrecipes.com. We LOVE it, and it has been passed on to more people than I can count, because someone will ask me for the recipe, have a dinner party, and pass it on to people from there. Maple Salmon marinade: 1/4 cup maple syrup 2 tbsp soy sauce 1 clove garlic, minced freshly ground black pepper to taste....

ARCHIVED GF Girlfriend
2Boys4Me replied to bignate's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Kari, Nacho Cheese Doritos or *I think* any Cheese flavoured Doritos are NOT gluten-free in Canada. Not sure about the States. -
ARCHIVED Nice Eyelashes!
2Boys4Me replied to ThomasMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hmmm. Interesting topic. For the record I don't have Celiac, and I have short, pale eyelashes. By pale, I mean light brown almost blond and my hair is dark brown. My younger son, who has Celiac, has pretty long lashes, but blond, so he will need mascara for colour. (But only if he grows up to be a drag queen, otherwise, he's not allowed.) My older son wears... -
ARCHIVED Recipes For Basic Flour Mixes
2Boys4Me replied to doggoneit28's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Open Original Shared Link There's a link to some flour blends. I use Carol Fenster's sorghum/corn flour blend for cakes and cookies and pretty much everything else is recipes w/o blends, just individual amounts of various flours. -
ARCHIVED What's Your Favorite Brand Of....
2Boys4Me replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nature's Path Cornflakes. I got them in a big plastic bag with a green and black label. I'm sure it's Nature's Path or maybe Nature Valley. I haven't bought them in a while, because my son is sticking to Puffed Rice rice now. I'd say the Nature's Path are better than Kellogg's, and NOT just because they're gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Shake N Bake
2Boys4Me replied to Kenster61's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Shake & Bake Teriyaki GLAZE and BBQ chicken GLAZE are gluten-free in Canada. Maybe in the states as well. GLAZE not breadcrumb type coatings. Check the ingredients, though, because the Honey Garlic glaze has wheat in it. -
It doesn't make me mad or even frustrated about most manufacturers, because as mentioned, there are usually gluten-free alternatives. My son for now at least, couldn't care less if he ever had bread again, but he's six, so ask me when he's 15 and the kids are going out for pizza and burgers. The manufacturer that bothers me most is Kellogg's. The Rice...

Lisa, you're in a small town in Southern Saskatchewan, right? Is the GI doc in your town or in Regina? Can you try for an appointment in Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton? Granted, it's an 8 hour drive from Regina to Calgary, but if you can get in sooner... If I recall, you don't drive, but you might be able to get a bus ticket for a reasonable price...

ARCHIVED Help! Cornmeal!
2Boys4Me replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know if they have Purity or Unico, but those are the two brands I've seen around here, but I'm from the Great White North. The Purity is in a clear plastic bag with a yellow and green label. It doesn't say gluten-free, but it says 100% natural No additives. 500g pkg (about 16 oz/1 lb). Packed by Fort Garry Milling Co. PO Box 537 Saskatoon... -
ARCHIVED Dna Test Result Interpretation
2Boys4Me replied to parker's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Open Original Shared Link That's a link to the only website I've ever found mentioning HLA-B and celiac disease. I have HLA-B8 which is mentioned on the site and also HLA-B44 (which your son has). I know this only because about 15 years ago I signed up to be a bone marrow donor, and they did HLA-typing and they notified me of 3 HLA types. I think the other... -
ARCHIVED Son's Celiac Blood Test
2Boys4Me replied to CMCM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Maybe you guys can help me, too. Ty just had his follow up yesterday with the pediatric GI doc. I asked the nurse for a copy of the lab work. Ty's tests were ordered by a pediatrician, mine & Walker's by our family doc, and Glenn's by his doctor. Ty was tested in July, Walker & I in August and Glenn in September. Only Walker and I went to the same... -

ARCHIVED Birthday Cake Recipe?
2Boys4Me replied to pinky's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you want to bake an easy one from scratch, search the recipes forum for gluten-free Wacky Cake. It's really good. My husband calls it pudding cake, but I'm not sure why. It's very moist. My MIL made a cake a couple of weeks ago from a Celimix mix. I didn't get any, but she was impressed. -
ARCHIVED Yummy Choc Chip Cookies
2Boys4Me replied to mookie03's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Okay Gang, here's an idiot proof cookie recipe. And by that I mean, if I can make them, anyone can. And it took me 3 or 4 tries to get them right. From Carol Fenster's Wheat-Free Recipes and Menus. 1 1/4 cups flour blend 1 tsp xanthan gum 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 cup shortening or margarine at room temperature, or Spectrum spread 3/4... -
ARCHIVED Weird Answer From Tetley Canada
2Boys4Me replied to gabby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would phone Tetley and talk to an actual human being. Then you can ask about the whole tap water thing - which is pretty weird, in my opinion. What if you're at work and using bottled water, or hot filtered water from a cooler? Not everyone uses tap water. Maybe you have well water.
