  1. Congrats Becky & Belle! Being skinny is good...Ty's GI doc said his diet is working (4-5 lbs in 6 months) and that he's moved up the scale from scrawny to skinny.
  2. I don't know...I haven't even found anyone to confirm or deny that a gluten-free pizza is even available. Just that Mom at school whose sister said so. There's nothing on the Calgary Celiac website about it. I'll have to try to get hold of the Mom and get her sister's name. If/when I discover anything you can be sure I'll post it. Once a different Mom from...
  3. Okay, thanks.
  4. Chrissy, how is your one twin with depression doing? Is she feeling any better?
  5. My MIL was picking up my kids for me at school on Friday, and she was talking to a lady whose sister has celiac and she said there was a gluten-free pizza and Chinese food place, but she couldn't remember the name. I haven't been able to find it either. I missed the Calgary AGM, but I figured there might be something there. Haven't seen anything in the newsletter...
  6. Me too. And I'm part-time so if I don't work, I don't get paid. Actually, I booked next Saturday off. Get home from work about 12:45am on Saturday and then have to get up for a road trip to Edmonton. Just a quick overnight. Our first road trip dealing with Ty's gluten-free needs. Get up Sunday morning and have to be back at work by 3:45pm.
  7. Carriefaith's Breadsticks 1/4 cup shortening 3 tablespoons honey 2 eggs 1 tablespoon yeast 1 cup unflavored yogurt 1/2 cup potato starch 1 1/2 cups cornstarch 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 2 teaspoons baking powder 2 teaspoons xanthan gum 3/4 teaspoon salt 3/4 teaspoon vinegar Topping: Kosher salt and/or other herbs, grated cheese, sesame seeds...
  8. I remember packing some sweet rice flour and mailing it to my sister. I wrapped it so well...I was worried about what would happen if the box broke and there was "suspicious white powder" all over. Call 911! There's suspicious white powder all over the Tim Hortons! (or Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme or whatever.)
  9. Drat! I had stuff to do this morning and it took longer than I thought. Not only didn't I get to the meeting, I was fifteen minutes late for work this afternoon. Maybe I'll check the website in a couple of days to see if they post anything about it.
  10. Hi Ladies, I couldn't get to the AGM today, and I heard there was going to be vendors there. Anything new I should be on the lookout for? I'd be upset if I missed any freebies, I'd rather give Ty some free stuff to decide if he likes it than spend $$$ and end up tossing it.
  11. I doubt there's any gluten in the butter topping but I'd check the popcorn salt. The guy behind the counter had an allergy info sheet for butter at my theatre, but nothing on the salt. It's not table salt, and they put it on as it comes out of the popper. I would stay away from the flavoured salt you add on later.
  12. Rusla, I think I saw some rice paper at Lambda Market. It's the Asian Market on Centre Street and about 14th Avenue North. That's where I get my potato starch also. I know I saw rice paper somewhere. I think that's where. Are you going to the AGM tomorrow? It's at 1pm someplace down south at a community centre. I'm not sure if I can go, but I know that...
  13. It is genetic, but that doesn't mean that you or your husband have it. We went to a kids with celiac picnic a few weeks ago, and there were 3 families there where a child had it, but neither of the parents nor the siblings had it. Having said that, my husband, my older son, my mom and I were all tested and the tests all came back negative. I believe there...
  14. Hmmm. Our Buddy, a yellow Lab, is a vomiter. Not all the time...just once in a while, but usually in the morning if he hasn't eaten. Sometimes we'll go to the off leash, and he hasn't eaten, and as soon as we get back he'll take a long drink and then go hack away in the backyard. What kind of food do you give your Buddy? We use Natural Choice (blue bag),...
  15. Thanks, it sounds yummy.
  16. Off Topic--Kabowman...how did my dog get in your avatar?
  17. Mine is a best recipe. I got lots of good advice and info, but the best of all, was a recipe from Carriefaith for her Soft Chewy Breadsticks. I make these a lot. Undermix them and they taste biscuity. Mix them the right amount and they're terrific breadsticks. If only I could find a fool-proof hamburger/hot dog bun recipe.
  18. Is the knife test the same as the toothpick test? I'll have to try these soon. All the brownies I've made with various and sundry flour blends have a weird aftertaste.
  19. The Delphi forum has gluten-free lists from April 2005. Open Original Shared Link I hope that link works for you.
  20. Okay then, I'll forgive her. THIS time.
  21. Why the heck didn't your SIL tell you about the bread crumbs!? She's just as bad.
  22. I found this on another forum posted by mrsppmrxky. I had never heard of this cake until a couple of months ago when I saw it posted elsewhere. I have NOT tried this, so I can't tell you how it will turn out. _______________________________________________ This is a cake that I make for my family and have made for a few cake orders. It turns out really...
  23. My older son who doesn't have celiac disease has been eating these. My younger gluten-free son wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. They are Dixie Lily "quick grits". My MIL brought them back from Florida. You can't get grits in Canada. Anyway, the ingredients on the box are enriched white corn grits (with niacin, riboflavin, thiamine and iron). What...
  24. Since you're willing to bake from scratch next time, try the Wacky cake. It's somewhere on this site, and there's no egg, milk, or nuts. It's easy to make and tastes pretty good. I think it's a bit gritty with rice flour. I used a sorghum/corn flour mix the second time and it was better than with a rice mix.
  25. Would you consider baking one from scratch?
